Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes.

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Mail Carrier Pleads Guilty to Stealing Cash, Checks, and Other Items From the Mail

BUFFALO, N.Y.-U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that John Wiedenhofer, Jr., 49, of Fredonia, NY, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. to theft of mail by a postal employee, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. The plea is the result of an investigation by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Modafferi.

Former Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing Items from Mail

NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that KEISHAN WILSON, age 38, of New Orleans, Louisiana pleaded guilty on December 8, 2022, before the Honorable Elon E. Fallon, U.S. District Judge, Eastern District of Louisiana, to stealing items from the mail she was entrusted to process for delivery as a postal employee. Sentencing is set for March 2, 2023. Madison Man Sentenced for Postal Theft

MADISON, WIS. – Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Steven Rosa, 29, Madison, Wisconsin was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 2 years of probation for theft of mail matter by a postal employee. Judge Conley also imposed a $2,000 fine as part of Rosa’s sentence. Former Mail Carrier and Co-Schemer Who Lived on His Mail Delivery Route Each Sentenced to Nearly 3½ Years in Prison for COVID Fraud

LOS ANGELES – A former United States Postal Service mail carrier was sentenced today to 41 months in federal prison for scheming to steal more than $250,000 in unemployment insurance (UI) funds by making false claims of COVID-related job losses and for stealing UI debit cards intended for other people on his mail route.
