Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Bloomfield Man Charged with Drug Trafficking and Firearms Offenses

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, today announced that, a federal grand jury in New Haven has returned an indictment charging JOSEPH GIOVANNI SOTO, 32, of Bloomfield, with narcotics distribution and firearm possession offenses. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General assisted in the investigation.

Gloucester County Man Admits Healthcare Fraud

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Gloucester County, New Jersey, man today admitted defrauding his employer’s health insurance plan out of more than $4 million by submitting fraudulent claims for medically unnecessary compounded medications, Attorney for the United States Vikas Khanna announced. Attorney for the United States Khanna also thanked U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General for its assistance in the investigation.

Dark Web Traffickers of Heroin, Methamphetamine, and Cocaine Prosecuted

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announces a sentencing and a guilty plea in two cases the United States Attorney’s Office is prosecuting involving drug trafficking on the dark web. These cases are the product of investigations by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.

Former U.S. Postal Service Employee Pleads Guilty to Using Her Position to Obtain the Personal Information of Victims as Part of a Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud and Wire Fraud

Baltimore, Maryland – Breanna Lee Cartledge, age 28, of Clinton, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud, in connection with a scheme to defraud financial institutions by creating fake checks using information Cartledge intercepted as a Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the USPS OIG for its work in the investigation.

Red Ventures, LLC and MYMOVE, LLC Agree to Pay $2.75 Million to Resolve False Claims Act Allegations Arising from Agreements with the U.S. Postal Service

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Red Ventures, LLC and MYMOVE, LLC (together, “MYMOVE”) have agreed to pay the United States $2.75 million to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act by knowingly withholding funds owed to the U.S. Postal Service (“USPS”) under contractual agreements connected to the USPS change of address process. The matter was investigated in conjunction with the USPS Office of Inspector General.
