Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Former Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzling the Mail

NEW ORLEANS – COI MORRIS, age 25, of New Orleans, Louisiana pled guilty on November 1, 2023 to embezzling the mail, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. According to court documents, COI MORRIS was employed by the USPS as a mail handler at the processing center in New Orleans when he was apprehended stealing items from the mail he was entrusted to handle. U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General in investigating this matter.

De Kalb Woman Pleads Guilty to Misappropriation of Postal Funds

Jackson, MS – A De Kalb woman pled guilty to misappropriation of postal funds while serving as Postmaster. According to court documents, Stacey Eldridge Parker, 45, while serving as Postmaster of the Marion Post Office and Administrative Postmaster of the Bailey and Daleville Post Offices, took cash and other property of the United States Postal Service for personal use. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case.

Former Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Desertion of Mail

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Michael Burdette, 34, of St. Albans, pleaded guilty today to desertion of mail. Burdette admitted that he discarded mail in a dumpster behind a Winfield business on two occasions while employed by the United States Postal Service. United States Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the United States Postal Service and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (OIG).

Southeastern Connecticut Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to More Than 15 Years in Federal Prison

Vanessa Roberts Avery, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that CARLOS ANTONIO CRESPO-FEBUS, 43, of New London, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to 188 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for trafficking large quantities of cocaine from Puerto Rico through the U.S. Mail for distribution in Connecticut and elsewhere. This matter was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General.

U.S. Postal Worker Is Indicted For Stealing Business Checks Worth Over $1.9 Million From Ballantyne Post Office

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A federal indictment was unsealed today in federal court, charging Dontavis Romario Truesdale, 27, of Charlotte, with conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of mail by a postal employee, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. In making today’s announcement, U.S. Attorney King thanked USPS OIG, USPIS and CMPD for their investigation which led to the charges.
