Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Former Mail Handler Sentenced to Federal Prison for Stealing Mail, Selling Bank Information

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Vincent Anthony Gailliard Jr., 41, of Sumter, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Evidence obtained in the investigation revealed that between April 2022 and May 2023, Gailliard was employed as a mail handler at the USPS Processing and Distribution Center in Columbia. Gailliard would steal mail containing bank checks that had been mailed by individuals and businesses and take pictures of these checks with his personal cell phone...

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that RACHEL WATTS SANDERS (“SANDERS”), age 39, of Loranger, Louisiana, was sentenced on August 28, 2025, to five (5) years of probation. The determination of restitution will be held at a later date. SANDERS previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1343, and mail theft, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1708.

Former Postal Worker Stripped of Citizenship, Sentenced to 66-Months in Prison, for Stealing $1.6 Million from the U.S. Mail

WASHINGTON – Hachikosela Muchimba, 45, a former letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and resident of the District of Columbia, was stripped of his U.S. citizenship and sentenced to 66 months in federal prison today in connection with mail theft and bank fraud scheme that illegally netted him $1.6 million, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that KIERRA BLOUNT, 35, formerly of Stamford and currently residing in Plymouth, North Carolina, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford to fraud and mail theft offenses. According to court documents and statements made in court, Blount, at times while employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Stamford, stole mail and obtained stolen mail for the purpose of obtaining checks

Former U.S. Postal Inspector Charged with Stealing Over $330,000 in Cash from Elderly Victims

BOSTON – A former U.S. Postal Inspector was arrested and charged today for allegedly stealing over $330,000 in cash from packages mailed by elderly victims and then laundering the cash and failing to report it to the Internal Revenue Service. The defendant allegedly used the stolen cash to pay for a pool patio and lighting, granite countertop for his outdoor bar, Caribbean cruise expenses and escorts. He also is alleged to have stolen cash from an evidence locker and then blamed a direct report
