Looking Into the Future of the OIG
We’ve just released our new five-year strategic plan, covering fiscal years 2025 to 2029. Why do we do it? There are two reasons. First, each strategic plan offers us the opportunity to reexamine our mission, vision, and values and determine the strategic goals that will guide our operations over the next five years. The second, is that we are legally required to provide a new five-year plan at least every three years.
This latest plan finds the Postal Service at a time of change. This is the first strategic plan since the Postal Service rolled out its 10-year Delivering for America (DFA) plan. This brings substantial changes to its operations and with that, our oversight. In addition, our oversight now includes the Postal Regulatory Commission. We are also operating against a background of continued tight budgets, focusing on the highest risks and priorities with our limited resources.
Our new plan tweaks our mission to include our additional responsibilities: Promoting the integrity, accountability, and efficiency of the U.S Postal Service and its regulator. The statement of our vision includes our pursuit of innovative oversight, and our statement of values retains the cornerstones of respect, impact, innovation, and resilience.
This brings us to our goals:
- Promote Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Transparency of Postal Operations
- Foster Integrity by Detecting and Preventing Fraud, Waste, and Abuse in Postal Programs
- Pursue Excellence Through Developing Our People and Advancing Innovations
The last goal describes not only the value we place on developing our employees but also the importance of providing them with the tools to improve their own skills and abilities. You can read more about the implementation and performance indicators for each goal in the plan.
What are your thoughts on our strategic plan?
