R - 2 -- There are a limited number of reserve vehicles to accommodate routes served by vehicles that have mechanically broken down. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General reported the Postal Service’s delivery vehicle inventory and motorized routes could sustain delivery operations nationwide until FY 2017. As part of the FY 2015 capital budget, management plans to acquire additional vehicles to replace existing vehicles that have exceeded their planned life and place postal-owned vehicles on rural routes to meet the requirements in the National Rural Letter Carrier Association Labor Agreement.
