The U.S. Postal Service developed the gopost® parcel delivery locker concept to offer customers an easy, convenient, and secure delivery option. The parcel delivery locker pilot was implemented in February 2012, providing customers with a free alternative to use 24 hours a day for parcel shipment and receipt.

Traditionally, when a parcel does not fit into a customer’s mailbox, a letter carrier will attempt to deliver it to the customer’s door. The carrier will leave the parcel in a protected location, follow the mailer/addressee’s delivery instructions, attempt a second delivery, or leave a delivery notice instructing the customer to pick up the parcel at the Post Office™. With a gopost parcel delivery locker, however, a registered customer uses a uniquely issued gopost card and personal identification number to ship and receive parcels. Customers can also receive shipping and receiving notifications through email or text.

Office of Inspector General auditors assessed the Postal Service’s parcel delivery locker pilot. We determined the parcel locker concept will increase the Postal Service’s parcel readiness efforts as future online retail growth continues. It will also expand available parcel delivery and shipment options for customers, and give the Postal Service a marketing edge over competitors that do not offer secure parcel locker service.

We identified areas of concern involving the gopost registration process, site location criteria, volume targets, and number of parcel pick-up days allowed. The pilot results do not contain strategies implemented internationally for similar locker systems. Exploring greater possibilities with parcel lockers could allow the Postal Service to evaluate additional revenue generating and cost-sharing arrangements and give them a more informed basis for implementing gopost on a broader scale.

As Americans do more of their shopping online, the growth in packages is expected to rise. Where do you receive your packages from the Post Office? Would you use a gopost locker? Let us know on our blog.

i have 7 missing packages that all say they were delivered to parcel lockers in the last 3 days. However, I have not received any keys to any of the parcel lockers in my neighborhood. Where are my packages this is extremely frustrating as I need to ship those items to customers

This is a stupid idea and whoever thought of it needs fired immediately. This isn't to "improve the system to deal with more volume", it's a way to provide less customer service and make our lives harder and their jobs easier

So I had a package that was supposed to be delivered by 8 p.m. today I stayed home all day to wait for the mail to get here so I can get the package. I checked tracking it said it was out for delivery. I just checked tracking again and I get this weird message. Tracking History November 18, 2017, 3:52 pm Held at Post Office, Retrieved from full parcel locker. LODI, CA 95240 Your item is being held at the LODI, CA 95240 post office at 3:52 pm on November 18, 2017. The item was removed from a full parcel locker. Amazon keeps sending my packages via USPS, what a disaster!!! They get sent to unknown locations, called parcel lockers, and nobody knows where these parcel lockers are. I only have a key in my mailbox for the parcel locker, but I cannot find the parcel locker. There is no address on the key. There is now way to reach USPS on the phone, only automated messages. How is this possible? Is this the 3rd world??? Does anybody know how I can instruct amazon to avoid USPS at all cost?

Small package remains undelivered after I was notified that it was "out for delivery"---then "retrieved from full parcel locker...." This means the (your) package was mishandled and will be sent to you the next day...assuming it is not a holiday..

On my Amazon account, it says my package was delivered to a "parcel locker" but I never received a key or any further instructions. I don't even know where any parcel lockers are in my area.

I received a text for a very small package I am to receive stating expected delivery 11/06/2017 by 8 pm. No package was delivered. I then received a text stating "Held at Post Office, parcel locker full". What does this even mean??? I don't have a huge mailbox but have never have a problem with delivery of this type of package before as it is very small. What's the deal USPS?

Seems a lot of people are having the same issue. My neighborhood has all our mailboxes and parcel boxes in one area, and my package was delivered and left in one of those parcel boxes. But like everyone else, no key was left in my mailbox. I submitted a claim with the USPS customer service department, which has done nothing because no one has called me back in days. I eventually found the direct phone number for my city's post office and raised the issue with them. I was told the delivery driver would go leave the key that afternoon, yet it's been 2 days now and still no key. I've called multiple times, talked to different people every single time, different excuses and stories each time and still no closer to getting my package which has been locked in one of those parcel boxes for a week now. Every time I talk to them no one bothers to ask for my address, my mailbox number or anything, so I'm interested to know how they plan on figuring out which package is mine, which box it was left in and which mailbox out of 3 dozen to leave the key in. I'm currently waiting for someone to call me back with news, but I'm not sure how they're going to call me back as no one bothered to ask for my phone number.

When a package is too large for my PO box, I have always received a key in my box (for a separate locker). But today I received a printed notice instead, telling me to pick up my package at the front desk. Since I got to the post office after hours, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick up my package, when I could have got it from the separate locker today. Why didn't they just leave me a key like they have always done before? I know that the package delivered was small enough to fit in a locker.

I'm answering my own question. This morning, the lady at the post office front desk said "sorry about that," but they completely ran out of parcel lockers yesterday, so she left me a notice. I think the post office has over 20 lockers, so I'm surprised at that. I've never run into that problem before.

I just moved into a condo in Jacksonville Beach, and have never seen a parcel box. I usually have packages delivered to my door. About a month ago I received a key in my box, no tag or instructions. I took the key inside and cannot locate it. The local post office has done nothing to get the box open and it has Medical Supplies in it. Please tell me how this can be resolved ASAP. I need those supplies. Never seen a system like this. Please just fix this problem

I received an email saying my package was delivered to a parcel box. Yet there was no key left in my mailbox for me to open the parcel box. I file a claim to which I only received “we have to assume your package is lost. Our apologies.” I emailed back with no response. I called, explained the situation, and was told to file a claim. All I need is that key and no one is helping me.

Never left a note letting me know that they tried to deliver my package and no one was home. Could someone explain what's going on and what and where are these lockers.

I sent a care package to my grand daughter in college. It was delivered parcel locker. It was sent priority mail. Now it appears because she was at school it wasn't left. Now I dont know if she can get to the post office and with her classes don' t think she will be there if its delivered again. I am very disappoint the package was not left, this was a special package that I wanted it delivered to her by today. I did not asked for it to be signed for or not to be left if she wasn't home. Very disapointed that your carrier did not leave the package. UPS had no problem leaving a package for her yesterday. Guess I know who to give my future business to.

Parcel lockers are terrible because the employees are careless with packages and issue out multiple set of keys to 1 locker. You have 1 job and you can't do that right. I'm missing a pair of 100 dollar shoes because some genius issued the same parcel key to someone else... so in other words when I checked my locker there was already a key in it and there weren't any shoes in it.

Dear USPS, Thank you for delivering so many fellow American's mail with prompt delivery service. Although, I'll make a suggestion for your team. If you are going to deliver to a parcel please put instructions in the recipients mailbox on how to receive their package. Simply stating their mail is in a parcel somewhere with the address is not sufficient. As a government job, fellow Americans need more than just "your package is at a parcel in this city." I do not think this is acceptable, especially since you've already made the drive to our mailboxes and have decided the package will not fit for some reason. Also, please read instructions, especially when I put so nicely on the delivery note to "please leave on doorstep, or at main apartment office." I understand it will be my responsibility if the package is stollen etc. This is the second package that this has happened and my package has been sent back to the sender. Now, without sufficient instructions, you have now cost me time and money. Please do your job with a little more love. Thank you for your time.

I sent 3 packages to my daughter in surprise Arizona. Tracking says the packages were delivered to a locker. No one seems to know anything about these lockers. Do I have to file an insurance claim now that they are all missing? Next time I will insure all for the maximum amount even if it's not worth it.

Why is the smallest priority envelope delivered to a parcel locker when larger priority Boxes I've shipped have been delivered. It makes no sense. Your system shows the item as delivered when it was not truly delivered and no notice was left anywhere on the home nor in the mailbox that states item is being held at the post office for pickup (even though there was no reason to hold it in the first place). I find this unacceptable and extremely of your mail carrier that day.
