This management alert presents the results of our self-initiated review of the Timeliness of Mail Processing at the North Houston, TX, Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). Our objective was to determine if the North Houston P&DC was processing mail on time.

The U.S. Postal Service considers mail delayed when it is not processed in time to meet its established delivery day, with the exception of Standard Mail. Standard Mail is considered delayed when it is not processed, finalized, or dispatched in time to provide the subsequent operation or facility the allotted time necessary to ensure delivery by the established delivery day. The North Houston P&DC did not process mail on time from September 1 through November 30, 2015. During that period, the North Houston P&DC reported 54 million delayed mailpieces, which was the highest overall delayed mail volume in the country during the stated period.

    I have a package that has been at the North Houston facility for 4 days now. Let me know I can pick it up, it only takes 45 minute to drive there from Rosenberg. Had a package in January that took 3 weeks to arrive, it spend over a week at North Houston two separate occasions, came from Dallas, set for over a week, sent back to Dallas, came back to North Houston and set for over a week before it arrived. Checked the package and labeling was perfectly legible. Sad state of affairs.

    This facility causes by far the worst delays in delivery I have experienced with USPS. Of three in the past year, all have been late because of this place, with one two weeks past due. I hate doing business that routes parcels through this facility. It gives USPS a bad name.

    We have had 4 pieces of certified mail go thru the North Houston Distribution Center this month that have not been delivered. One of them was going from Houston to Dallas and ended up going to Roanoke VA & Greensboro NC before it was sent to Dallas. It was mailed on 1/17/17 and is still showing in transit on 1/31/17! The other pieces just got stuck at the Distribution Center and shows delayed. We will be forced to use Fedex.

    Currently have between 7-10 certified envelopes stuck at this facility. All mailed around 1/19/2018, all "in transit" ever since & the last history on any of them is 1/23/2018. I get that some people do not like their jobs & do not want to be bothered. And with so many good workers (people who actually do what they've been hired to do and paid to do) why force these guys? Postmaster - it really is time to clean house!

    I currently have 7 packages that have been stuck at this distribution center. This includes first class mail and priority express. Some of these packages have been delayed for weeks. What is the issue? When can we expect a resolution to the issue?

    My pkg keeps bouncing from NHDC to other PO’s! It was sent on 10/14 and only needed to travel 30 minutes across town! What is going on with this place???!!! This is ridiculous with nonhelpful & vague updates that are long overdue! So frustrated!!!

    I'm waiting on a package that is sruck at the North Houston distribution center. It took 2 days to get from Idaho to North Houston and we are at 4 days and counting to get from one side of Houston to the other. I could have walked from my local post office to North Houston and back in less time. Pethetic service.

    Have 2 packages currently updating that they arrived at and left north houston distribution center and are in transit to kemah but never get here. They are listed as in route to destination for several days then never appear. I have had several other packages in the last 6 months arrive after I have had to ask for replacements and preceived replacement items. What is going on with the post office that the service is so bad? Tracking never updates beyond in transit to destination.

    I have two packages "stuck" or lost at this facility. The first has been there according to tracking since 9-30-17. The second since 10-18-17. This is pathetic service and I can't find any recourse. Don't feel I should have to continually worry about or have to try and track down my packages.

    I have a package sitting at this location since September 20 - I mailed it September 11 from Katy where it sat for 9 days. Twice a day I check the tracking number - always the same - held at this facility - Northwest Houston Distribution Center. Please someone at this facility have some integrity and make sure these packages get to where they supposed to be.

    I have two (2) ebay package stuck at this location. One should have been delivered 09.28.17 and another one for 09.29.17. No update scans other than arrived at North Houston TX Distribution Center and in transit. They haven't left that center. I don't know whether it's the hurricane or just overall poor service. But there is no indication that the hurricaneis still impacting service. So, it's more likely than not the performance of this facility. I just want my packages that I paid for.

    I asked the mail clerk at the Hadley St post office how can I send my important documents to arrive by Thursday August 3, 2017. This was Tuesday August 1st. She said the fastest would be priority mail and the delivery date would be Thursday. So I paid $6.95 and asked for a tracking number. After 2 days and checking the tracking, it was still in Houston! It finally was delivered SATURDAY August 5! Are you kidding? I could have bought a stamp and mailed it by regular mail. I am demanding a refund of my money!

    My package ( which is black suitcase weight 31 pounds) which was shipped from houston on june 1st 2017 with priority 2 day mail delivery with expected delivery on june 3 rd reached North Houston facility 77315 and since has been there. Today is June 15th and still waiting. I have tried to call but no response yet/ called 800 number as well. It is an important package for me. Its a big package to be lost.     I had a package leave Boston MA at 8:56 a.m on the 18th, it arrived at North Houston postal service at 11:29 a.m on the 19th. 10 hours later it is still in the North Houston postal service and I will be lucky to get it by Saturday. 14 1/2 hours from Boston to Houston and has laid in Houston 10 1/2 and I only live 65 miles north. Figures!

    The US Mail Delivery is horrible. My guess is the caliber of people hired for the jobs. I have been told at the 77501 facility the so called management "manages delivery". By that I mean they hold it until a certain time has passed before giving it to the carriers to deliver. Sad.

    So....a year after this damning report and things are no better, possibly worse. I've had eight packages either seriously delayed or lost all together in a six month period and I am a citizen that get a lot of packages in a year. I can only imagine the trouble others are having. The problem is WELL known, so why has there been no solution? North Houston Facility has got to be the worst in the Nation.

    Please see what is going on in Memphis Tennessee facility . My package was due to be delivered on dec 2 2016 and now it once again just updated saying it just arrived there a second time .     I read the audit report on the failures at the consolidated North Houston mail processing facility. I see the typical management responses to an audit report...yes...we agree...and we will fix the problems. Well, folks, today is Wednesday, August 17, 2016...and the problems are NOT fixed. They are as bad as ever. In fact, today the customer service rep hung up on me, after telling me she worked for the union and there was nothing I could do about it! This was after I complained the entire postal service should be turned over to private industry. My advice...don't send any important documents to or from Houston via the US postal service.

    The post office location I will be referring to is located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. In December of 2015 in order to subsidize our financial income, I began selling odds & ends on the internet. It was at this time, that I began making several trips a week to the post office to mail my packages. My new "hobby" escalated quickly, and I found myself visiting the post office daily, if not twice a day. Being there that often allowed me insight as to the common behavior, and work ethics of the Government employees. I was surprised at some of the response I heard from the staff, but kept to my business and carried on. The beginning of January, I began having problems with my package delivery times. I ship everything 2-3 day Priority Mail. Part of my commitment to the venues I use on the internet for selling, is that I am responsible to get the package to the post office with in a 24 hour time frame. No problem, I go everyday anyways. But something was wrong, my packages were being delayed by days, some up to and over a week. Of course this reflects badly on me, and I start to get warnings that I may be "suspended" from selling due to my lack of processing my orders. Wait 1 minute, I'm not late. So who is? That's when I started tracking the BG Post office. Every package, exact time I stepped into post office, waited in line, for them to scan my boxes, and when they were delivered to my customer. But something was still wrong, packages are still getting delayed. Even though I wait for them to scan them. How could that be. Now I keep track of what happens to my package after I leave. Its been scanned so I go home and start tracking every single package. There's no record of a scan. 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 30 hrs, no record of a scan. finally it pops up almost 2 days after I stood in the Post office & watched them"supposedly" scan these packages. Right now, as I am typing you, I have 6 packages that I brought in just before 5:00 on a Thursday evening. It is now 8:21 Central time on Friday, and there still is no record of my packages. I pay for Priority shipping, my customers count on me to keep my word, I count on the Postal System to do their job. But they are not. Tomorrow, I will be going into the post office, I want to speak to the Postmaster or someone in authourtiy that wont give (and other customers) a line of Bull. You have seious problems in that Post office. I plan on getting to the bottom of it. You may be hearing from me again. If I cant get answers, and results, then perhaps the local news station will have more luck. Either way The shenanigans that is happening at that post office is going to stop. I would expect your full cooperation in looking into this mater as well as the 100's of complaints that you can view on the internet about this 1 post office. Not all of them, just this 1.     You might also want to look at the Memphis Tennessee facility. Every time i am expecting a package and it has to go through there it either gets "lost" or it is badly delayed!!
