You probably have heard a lot recently about the pandemic and other issues causing problems with mail delivery, with some people saying it takes weeks for packages and letters to arrive. Maybe you even experienced problems yourself. Maybe you’ve been getting your mail on time and wondering what all the complaints are about.

Did you ever wish you could get a better understanding of how the Postal Service is doing across the country? Well, now you can. We recently launched a new service performance webpage that includes an interactive map displaying quarterly data on the Postal Service’s service performance around the country.

You can filter the data by time period, geography, mail class, or service standard. Want to see on-time performance for presorted First-Class Mail that is supposed to be delivered in two days? You can. Maybe you’re interested in focusing on Marketing Mail in New York? You can filter the map to see that also.

We will continue to update this page quarterly as the Postal Service releases new data. The interactive map is not all the website features; it also functions as a one-stop-shop for all the OIG’s published and upcoming work on service performance. So, take a look and tell us what you think

My experience with the USPS was satisfactory until about six months ago. Since that time their service has deteriorated steadily. I've experienced multiple instances of lost mail, misdirected mail, and packages that appear on the USPS site as having been delivered, but that don't show up until days later. On one instance I found a letter on my front lawn for the fellow down the street. (It was from the IRS, so despite his dismay at receiving it, things would've been worse if it had blown away into the gutter.) The post office handling my zip code in Texas (75220) is a hit-or-miss affair. I've sometimes gotten outstanding service, while at other times everyone there seems lethargic and utterly disinterested. I try not to go down there unless absolutely necessary. It's no surprise that I've been using Federal Express much more lately.

Service is non-existent from USPS. In the past few months almost everything I've ordered has either had unexplained delays, fake "delivery attempted", super long transit times, or as in the case of 6 of my packages over the past couple of months, vanished from the face of the earth. To top it all off, no one seems to care at USPS. I open cases and they are just closed or ignored. Nothing is ever done in any kind of attempt to locate what happened. I wish people would stop using them. I don't care if I have to pay double to at least feel secure that I will actually get what I'm ordering. Myself, I wouldn't ship a dog turd through USPS.

I know what you mean, Matt. I'm having similar issues with the Postal Service. They have lost packages AND broke items with fragile clearly printed on the box. I'm sorry for your experience. It's terrible

Lost, late and mishandled mail has nothing to do with the pandemic. Stop blaming it. It's so 2020 of you. Why are you stuck in the past with old technology and inefficient service. I hope the USPS is soon abolished and private companies are allowed to deliver mail. They deliver packages right to my door - not come collection box or post office miles away because the package won't fit into the tiny box. And they do this with a smile, and still make a profit.

Wow! An interactive map of the United States Postal Service's complete and utter failure of an agency! By the way, the foundational measurements of your interactive map are flawed at the core. "On Time" delivery means the mail parcel was delivered.......somewhere. Doesn't mean it was to the correct location. Time does not equal accuracy. Honestly, the American public would rather you be accurate than fast. Leave fast to UPS, a real logistics company. Trying to help citizens "understand" the USPS by "shedding light" with flawed analytics is further confirming how low this agency has fallen from the good old days of postal workers taking pride in having mail delivered accurately AND on time. The USPS doesn't even understand the crucial problem of mail being delivered to the wrong address, lost, destroyed, etc. They think we care if our mail arrives in 3 days rather than 4. I wonder how many tax dollars went to creating this completely useless "interactive map".

USPS is a scam. Customer service is deliberately unhelpful. I run an online business so shipping is important. There is absolutely no recourse for uninsured lost packages and with insured packages, the effort to plow through all the forms, red tape and delays just to get the refund makes it simply not worth it. It hurts my business and is wrong. Why is this continuing to happen.

I shipped five packages from my APO in Germany 09 May 2022. As of 31 May 2022 they are nowhere to be found and no update since the arrived in Chicago on the 13th of May. How can every possible package be lost. There’s not even a way to contact someone for help or just says make a claim for the insurance. I don’t want the ones I want the items that I shipped because they are all very personal to me.

Sending packages on strange trips. I sent a Package to a Friend who lives in B.C. Canada on May 20th. The package tracing showed it left our post office them for three day's Nothing Suddenly it was in Iowa, which it stayed till it was sent to Mephis Tn, Now the last time I looked Canada isn't south of OHIO! To be even worse That friend has sent me a package which has been back to L.A. California three times now! It had an expected delivery date of May 31,2022. It just left L.A. for the third time on May 30th! Where will these two packages go next is anyones guess! USPS you have some very strange Logistics in deed! Usually when I send packages to B.C. Canada they go from our P.O. to Columbus then to Chicagao, and from there to Canada

In the last two months I have sent 4 packages to B.C. Canada None seemed to take the same route. Two of the four went through the normal route going from Ohio to Chicago then on to Canada. One went from Ohio to Pa, to New Jersey, then to Jamacia New york, Back to New Jersey, then Back to Jamacia New your where is sat almost a week before getting to Canada. The last package which was sent on May 20th Went from our local office without tracking for three day's where it ended up in Iowa then on the 29th was sent to Mephis Tn. Canada is NORTH not South usps! Then theres a package that is still in transit from a friend in B.C, Canada Which has been back and fourth to L.A.California Three time now. It had a expected delivery date for May 31, 2022 But tracking showed it left L.A. again on May 30th.

The USPS has become one of the worst agencies in history. Lost packages, packages going to to other states, misrouted items, late deliveries, etc, etc, etc. The performance standard that was once the model of all government agencies has become an agency that should be phased out and shut down. The government should contract with UPS or FEDEX for mail deliver.

For the past few deliveries, I had not received my packages until 3-4 days after the expected delivery dates. Last week I opened a package tracking case asking for an explanation as to how my recent package was shipped from Texas , routed to Maryland (which I'm one state away in Virginia), and was routed back to Texas before arriving on 5-21-22. In hindsight, it was a mistake because I got an automated response today saying the package was scanned as delivered, and I never got an explanation on what I had asked them. I'm at home 24/7 because I live with family who are still at a high risk for COVID, so I don't have anything to really do, so when I'm given an expected delivery date, I am waiting pretty much all day until the package arrives. I cannot work either in fear that I'll bring any form of COVID home. I don't know where I can go to make a complaint, but I'll try here just to see what happens. It probably won't do anything, as the postal service isn't very reliable anymore.

I wish there was another option. I’m understanding to the time that it takes because I know there’s a lot of work and not always the coverage but 90% of the time I have something delivered to my mailbox, I do not receive it, even though it says delivered to mailbox. I have had packages delivered that were damaged beyond comprehension and I constantly receive the mail of my neighbors throughout my entire apartment complex. We have a parcel box but it is absolutely never used. I have complained multiple times over the past few years and have never received a response. Nobody ever answers the phone if you call and when I try to file claim for missing packages the website always tells me there was an error and to try back later. If I can’t call, I can’t email, I can’t file a claim, and even if I do nothing is ever done, then what is the point. Just say you’re a terrible service and we do not care to do better. It’s a shame that such an important service is one of the worst examples of service there is.

What the hell has happened to the postal service? I’ve long since given up worrying about receiving packages in a timely manner. Every time I see a package of mine hits the Jersey City hub my stomach tightens up. It generally means that the delivery will take anywhere from an extra 5 to 10 days…..and that’s if your lucky! It’s one thing to see a package take a side trip to your Florida hub; it’s another when you never received the package at all. This has happened 3 times already, this year alone. I’ve reached the point where I now seek out businesses that won’t use the USPS as the shipper. I’ve pressured smaller retailers to ship with ups or fedex; refusing to make a purchase if they were not willing to accommodate me. You are doing an atrocious job and should be ashamed of yourself; you should resign now before you’ve completely decimated the service. Dan

I am simply appalled at USPS 'service.' I paid for a package to be shipped from Japan three weeks ago. It got to the US in two days and has just been sitting in Chicago since then. This mail is really important but you guys have just decided to screw me over! Then I read online to see hundreds of people have and are experiencing the same frustrations. I really can't believe it. The service at this facility is truly horrible.

USPS is having a going out of business sale thanks to Donal Trump's appointed Republican Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. I am no longer receiving my mail and packages through the USPS, as I did before, prior to Louis DeJoy took over as the Postmaster General. The USPS service is very slow and unreliable. If I didn't know better, the postal workers are throwing away my mail and packages (or taking them for themselves). It's a shame. Before Republican Postmaster General Louis DeJoy took over, the service was reliable and better than FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. Now, the USPS is non-existent in Fountain, Colorado (Zip Code 80817). They might as well close the Fountain Post Office down, and terminate the USPS as Republican Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is successfully accomplishing.

USPS sucks worse than a black hole, our mail never gets here on time the packages, if it says it's going to be here today forget it it won't be here for 3 or 4 days later usually. Tracking is useless I don't even ship packages with USPS anymore I pay more money for UPS simply because while they do have problems, it's a more efficient run system and I know my packages won't be delayed. I can't believe my taxes pay for all you clowns to screw up mail delivery and package delivery. I sincerely wish they would do away with your entire USPS and let private handlers do it.

Just an FYI.....UPS utilizes the post office to deliver an enormous amount of their parcels because they themselves cannot handle the volume. So you are paying those higher prices for the post office to deliver it anyway most of the time. Furthermore, the post office is just starting to get back to normal since the last big wave of Covid. We too,(postal workers), were essential. We were required to risk our lives and the lives of our families so that people like you can get your coffee, toilet paper, and dog food delivered to your doorstep. The postal service was hit so hard that every single position struggled. By Christmas, USPS was functioning with about a quarter of it's workforce, yet we still showed up and worked 12 or 14 hour days. There were many workers who lost loved ones because they bravely did their job, contracted Covid, got their family members sick, and watched them die a slow miserable death. Sorry your package was late.

The mail service - has never been this bad - i had a 1,000 check that was do to be fwd , left at my door and sat for 2 months ?! I wonder if my tabs for my car will ever arrive , here in Florida from Michigan. Parcels and letters seam to wind up in the skip , with little thought or rational thinking on how this cld effect others ?! Does USPS have a personality quiz to gage if ppl are mentally stable to handle the mail & the ramifications if its just thrown asunder ? With no thought or conscience ???? I really wonder that , since my mail carrier has a personality disorder of sorts , and just does not care if you get ur mail or if its fwd or not. Pretty frightening state of affairs with so much riding , on the distribution.

I have a package sent to me via express overnight priority. I followed the scans closely from California to Florida. The package was checked in to the Fort Lauderdale sorting facility and then just vanished from that point on. It's been over a week now. I went in person to the sorting facility and they told me the package was not there and they don't know where it is and I should file a claim. This was a very important and irreplacable item and I am desperate. I have called and spoke to many people at the Post Office departments and most say it is probably lost because the scans have just stopped. Even if this package was sent by mistake somewhere else there would be some tracking showing it. How does an express package just disappear ? The label had clear tape on it to protect from water and my address was written on 2 more sides, so 3 total sides. There is no way the label got ripped off by accident so there is no excuse for being lost. I feel if this package does not show up soon it was involved in criminal mischief by the Post Office. Can anyone tell me if they also had issues with the sorting facility in South Florida ? Also, if my express package was supposed to arrive on April 19th and its April 26th now should I worry ? Last known scan was 9am on April 19th at Fort Lauderdale sorting facility. Any advice is appreciated.

What is a joke is that their target percentage for on time is around 90%, they are counting 1 in 10 being late. Calling their customer service is a joke. I had two packages sent by the same company, starting in the same place and going through the same locations (Canada to NJ). The first one was in LA for over 10 days and I was told by Kathy Randall from their Consumer Advocate's office this was normal for an international shipment. The replacement got from Canada, went through LA and arrived in NJ in four days. If the first one went through normal channels and the sis howe long it takes, how could the second arrive in about a third of the time? Since I asked that question, I have been ignored by there Consumer Advocate's office. Let's face it, lying is a big part of the USPS because no one is held accountable for doing it and when their supposed top customer advocates are so willing to lie, why wouldn't the rest?

For years the Postal Service has been incompetent and could care less what the general public thinks. They only answer to Congress and it seems that Congress could also care less! I have contacted postmasters as well as my congressman with the same results, a form letter. I wonder how many of those they send out every day? Nothing ever changes from all of the complaints of the people of this nation. I believe that when a business cannot or will not correct the problems, they should be shut down. I believe that a private company could do a much better job. Since our Congress seems to choose to disregard this problem, I believe our American Public, should start contacting every media outlet that will listen, to effect a change. Since our Congress is elected, maybe the next votes should be given to someone that will listen.

Most inept agency in the Federal government, and that’s saying something.I’ve called local news stations and done segments on their performance. Lost packages, carrier not checking to see if someone home for signed delivery (nor leaving card in box), non-existent customer service. When they lose a package they want YOU to describe the box (how would you know what the box looks like….. you never got the damned thing!). Three months later you get an email telling you the search was unsuccessful because you DID NOT ADEQUATELY DESCRIBE THE BOX! I live in Greenville, NC. Just this morning, a package left Rocky Mount hub and arrived at my destination in Greenville. IT THEN WHEN BACK TO ROCKY MOUNT! Just visit your local branch. They hire anyone with a beating heart. Apathy rules the day.

About 25% of my packages are lost, and 85% are delivered late. I'm waiting on a package now that was supposed to be delivered 3 days ago. Tracking says it's still over 600 miles away and it took 2 days to go from one facility to another facility only 8 miles away. When I request more information, I'm given the exact information that's on the tracking site and then I'm summarily dismissed. There is absolutely no accountability either. If they lose my package, damage it, or delay it - it costs them nothing. If they lose it, they tell me to contact the shipper - as if the shipper has any idea where it might be. If you look at their efficiency report, all of the actual numbers are redacted. They claim they are improving, but they redact all the information in the audits that would prove that (I wonder why?). Seems to me, if they were really improving, they'd be happy to share the information. As for cost, I can send something UPS or FedEx for nearly the same price, but it actually gets there on time - and if it doesn't, they can tell me EXACTLY where it is and/or what happened. The USPS is a freaking joke!

Worst service ever. My first class package from TX arrived in Jacksonville to be delivered 4 days later, on 4/8. It then left for some other place in FL, near Tampa, then came back to JAX and then went to SD. Today is 4/13 and it is back in the JAX distribution center, fresh off the plane from Sioux Falls, SD. At best, I will have it a week late, unless they decide it needs to see another city/state. USPS used to be reliable, but not anymore. The fact we own it makes this even more frustrating. And good luck getting any help from the USPS.

The best is when your carrier decides to leave a "sorry we missed you" slip in your apartment building mailbox for a signature package, when every other carrier just comes up and knocks on your door. What am I supposed to do? Camp out in a tent by the mailboxes until the carrier shows up? USPS's customer service is a joke (i have been on hold for 5 hours now waiting for a representative). The post office could be completely shut down and absolutely nothing of value would be lost.

Parcel delivery is horrid. I try to track packages and the will be marked as "delivered" and show up 1 to 3 days later. I had a package that was marked as delivered and never received it. The last joke was a package that shipped from Iowa to my address in Jacksonville Florida. It made it to Tallahassee Fl and was sent back to Iowa. 10 days later than the scheduled delivery of April 1 and I still haven't seen the package. i would estimate that 40% - 50% of my packages experience some type of delivery issue. I am to the point that I now request another delivery service other than USPS.

USPS is absolutely an incompetent and a corrupt entity. AVOID USING THEIR SERVICES! I am waiting for a package to arrive for over 8 weeks now and I called three times and provided my tracking number but they can not find it and suggested I should contact the sender to make an inquiry. That clearly shows they don't have a tracking system and and they don't' care. This would not happen with FedEx or UPS.

I completely understand the frustration when items aren't delivered. However, when I've contacted the Post Office, there's usually a totally different reason for "attempted delivery, access was blocked" or whatever the actual verbiage is. I'm a small business owner. I sell my artwork on Etsy, Ebay and Amazon, and the last time a customer of mine received the same info on the tracking (that access was blocked), the postal worker who replied to my email said that it had snowed 4 inches in Georgia and the driver had an accident. He took his mail back to the Post Office and the remaining mail was delivered by someone else the next day because the regular carrier was injured in the accident. However, most of the time I agree with everyone else. They just didn't bother to deliver x - number of packages because they just didn't bother and didn't want to work overtime or whatever. I also had a situation where the tracking said access was blocked and to pick up the package at the Post Office. Unfortunately, it WASN'T at the Post Office. Someone had given my package to the wrong carrier twice - TWO DIFFERENT carriers who didn't deliver to my street and the 2nd carrier hadn't brought the package back to the Post Office yet. So, they called me when he finally returned to the Post Office and I went back to the Post Office to pick it up and unfortunately this happens ALL THE TIME. So, if the tracking says "delivery attempted" for whatever reason, email the Post Office. They've been really good to get back to let me know what happened but sometimes they simply don't know what happened, which is why they might say - maybe your mailbox was full. I love that one. The last time I received that same answer, it was a canvas that was 20" x 30", which obviously wouldn't fit in my mailbox!

Imagine wasting 8 or 9 billion dollars a year and you still can't deliver packages correctly. You can't get or steal a tracking system that works. Almost all packages I track are just "in transit" with no updates for over 3 days. Great work guys, just as inept as any other government funded group. Maybe bring back more air travel for mail and packages, you can pick up the pace, grandpa. Leach of a system.

What can I say about the USPS that everyone hasn’t already. They are totally worthless. They deliver more packages to me virtually destroyed than not. The last few I had to go pick up at the post office because they required a signature and I was at work. Both times the worker handed me a box that had been mangled and split open with the contents visible inside. Both times she handed them to me with a smile and absolutely no regard to the condition of the package. I have video after video of mailmen throwing my packages up onto my porch, most of the time resulting in damage to the contents. If they don’t throw them at my front door, they leave them at the top of the stairs (6 steps) often to soak all day in the rain. I live outside of Seattle:.. it rains here a lot… you would think they would know this. I have had package after package ruined because of this. This week… tracking indicated a small package delivered “in or at “ my mailbox. No package to be found. I am sick beyond my ability to describe of this. I plead with sellers not to use the USPS… or fedex for that matter… I beg them to use ups or DHL for that matter. The website is a joke and is probably operating exactly the way it is designed… to lead you around in circles with absolutely no possible resolution. I guess I give up. They win. Apparently they can do anything they want. I have just stopped doing business with anyone that uses them as their carrier. I’ll be amazed if this post even goes through

I agree 100%! We are in South Florida and continue to be referred to our local Consumer Affairs office which is a joke. All they do is give us the runaround and provide no assistance. 7 years of the same delivery issues. We have an established history of mail tampering and mishandling, misdelivery, and scanning issues, which have all been reported to the OIG. Our post office should have been audited years ago. No accountability, no improvement.

I don't trust USPS to deliver anything of value. I go out of my way to NOT send anything via USPS because of the total failure over the last few years. I've started writing MISDELIVERED in big red ink on everything that arrives into my mailbox that doesn't belong to me. At least if it actually ever DOES get delivered then the recipients will know it's been in other mailboxes before it actually arrives into theirs. When I ask my mail delivery person about missing mail or mail in my box that doesn't belong to me - he's absolutely 100% not responsible (according to him) because all he does is what they tell him to do. I videoed my carrier from my window as he HIT my mailbox and then attempted to wrestle with the mailbox door to jam it back in place. I met him on the sidewalk as he came back down my road, and I stopped him and confronted him...he wasn't even going to admit to what he had just done until I told him I had it all on video. Where do they get these morons???? FAILURE!!!

After reading many of the Comments listed here, I want to add that certain USPS employees are not only failing to deliver the mail in a professional manner, e.g. not destroying our mail in the process of delivering it, but are also not keeping posted Post Office hours. In one instance, I was permitted into the Post Office, but nobody was working the counter (in fact, you could not get to the counter due to a metal door/barricade), 30 minutes prior to the posted closing time. It is for this reason that I will be contacting my Legislator to see what can be done to get the USPS system to more closely regulate itself and prevent the abuses mentioned in this blog.

Is there anybody that actually monitors letter carriers and local post office performance? The carrier shows up in my neighborhood, on average about 4 days a week. The local post office always uses the shortage of manpower excuse. I get notifications that a package is out for delivery and it may be three or more days before it arrives. The USPS constantly lies about attempted deliveries to cover for the days that there is no service. The animal on premise is one of their favorites, even when there isn't one. The postal service died years ago. It's time to stop getting welfare checks and be put to rest. If SPACEX can deliver to space, it can deliver to my house.

Total system failure! One mail delivery a week of some of my mail is the best service I receive these days.
