Robert “Bob” Kwalwasser | Assistant Inspector General, Office of Investigations

Bob Kwalwasser joined the Office of Inspector General in September 2019 as the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations. His duties include oversight of over 500 Special Agents and Professional Staff at over 100 geographically separated field offices. The investigative focus of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General centers on mail theft, narcotics distribution, financial fraud, and health care fraud, along with official misconduct.

Previously, Mr. Kwalwasser served as the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2019. He also served as the Assistant Inspector for Investigative Policy and Oversight at the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General. Before that position, Mr. Kwalwasser served in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. His assignments included Director of Procurement Fraud, Director of Office of Special Programs, Director of Warfighting and various Region, Squadron and Detachment Commands. In addition to him being a member of the Senior Executive Service, he is a retired Colonel in United States Air Force Reserve.

Mr. Kwalwasser began his law enforcement career with the New York City Police Department, where he was a Sergeant assigned to the Organized Crime Control Bureau, Legal Bureau, and Narcotics Division. He received his J.D. from Pace University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. He is married for 37 years to his wife Joan Marie and has three children.
