Melinda Perez was selected as the Assistant Inspector General for Audit in May 2022. She oversees over 280 auditors in conducting oversight of the Postal Service’s finances and operations. Before this, she served as a Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audit when joining the OIG in January 2021.

From 2015 to 2020, Ms. Perez served as audit director of the Department of State Office of Inspector General’s regional field office in Frankfurt, Germany. She began her federal auditing career with the Department of Defense OIG in 1999. During that time, Ms. Perez received multiple honors and awards, including several Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Awards for Excellence.

Ms. Perez holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania and a master's degree in policy management from Georgetown University. She also holds a professional certification in project management. Ms. Perez resides in Maryland with her husband, retired U.S. Army Major Carlos Perez, and their two daughters.
