Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Former Postal Employee Sentenced to 30 Months in Federal Prison for Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft, and Theft of a Postal Service Key

MOBILE, AL – A Mobile woman was sentenced to 30 months in prison for conspiracy, bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, and theft of a USPS key. Kristen Arieale Williams, 32, was employed as a mail carrier at the post office in Prichard. Williams stole and sold a USPS “arrow” key for $2,500 to a coconspirator. Law enforcement caught Williams’s coconspirator using the key to steal mail from collection boxes. The USPS–Office of Inspector General investigated the case.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that SHAWN R. FULLER, 37, of Hamden, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to a mail theft offense. Fuller pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a postal employee, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years. Judge Meyer scheduled sentencing for May 10. The Task Force includes members from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Postal Service.

Former USPS Employee Pleads Guilty for Stealing the Contents of U.S. Mail

NEW ORLEANS , LOUISIANA –TOI SMITH, age 26, a resident of New Orleans, pled guilty on January 30, 2024 to theft of mail by a postal employee, SMITH’S sentencing is set for May 14, 2024. The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that SHAKEITHA WILEY, age 41, of New Orleans, was indicted for mail theft. WILEY, a postal employee, stole gift cards from the mail and used those gift cards at a local store. The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.

Great Falls woman sentenced for possessing stolen mail, wire fraud

GREAT FALLS — A Great Falls woman who admitted to possessing stolen mail and wire fraud while working as a postal service contract driver was sentenced today to three years of probation and ordered to pay $5,641 restitution. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation.
