Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A U.S. Postal Carrier and her husband appeared in federal court today and pleaded guilty to federal charges for conspiring to commit an extensive mail theft scheme, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Kiara Padgett, 29, of Waxhaw, N.C., and her spouse, Dominique Dunlap, 28, of Charlotte, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Former Post Office Manager Sentenced to Over Three Years in Federal Prison for Mail Theft and Bank Fraud Conspiracy

INDIANAPOLIS- James Lancaster, 42, of Indianapolis, Indiana, has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and mail theft. A co-conspirator, Jordan McPhearson, of Blue Island, Illinois was sentenced in 2022 to 42 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Former U.S. Postal Service Mail Carrier Sentenced for Stealing Mail from Customers in Santee

SAN DIEGO – Former U.S. Postal Service mail carrier Tracy Rumley of El Cajon was sentenced in federal court this morning to five years of probation and 200 hours of community service for stealing mail from customers on her postal route in the Santee area of San Diego. The United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General assisted in this investigation.

Former U.S. Postal Service Employee Convicted of Mail Theft & Sentenced to Four Years of Probation

MADISON, WIS. – Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Joshua P. Copas, 38, Cumberland, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty today to one count of theft of mail while a U.S. Postal Service employee and was sentenced to four years of probation by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson on that count. The charge against Copas was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

Former Mail Carrier and Co-Conspirator Sentenced to Federal Prison for Quarter-Million Dollar Identity Theft and Fraud Scheme Using Stolen Mail

INDIANAPOLIS- Robenson Fenelon, 31, and Squille Traxler, 30, of Indianapolis, have been sentenced to 54 months (4.5 years) and 15 months, respectively, in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and theft of stolen mail. Fenelon additionally plead guilty to aggravated identity theft. The United States Postal Inspection Service and U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated this case.
