Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Helena contract carrier sentenced for stealing mail on rural routes

HELENA — A carrier who delivered mail for the U.S. Postal Service was sentenced today after she admitted to stealing mail from her route in search of cash and gift cards from more than 90 victims, U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said. Union County Man Sentenced to 14 Months in Prison for Role in Scheme to Steal Mail, Commit Credit Card Fraud, and Defraud United States

NEWARK, N.J. – A Union County, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to time already served – 14 months in prison – for his role in a scheme to receive stolen credit cards and pandemic relief debit cards sent through the mail, commit bank fraud, and defraud the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced. U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents with the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

Former Postal Employee Charged with Stealing Gift Cards and Money From The Mail

BUFFALO, N.Y.-U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that a federal grand jury has returned an eight-count indictment charging Anita Miller, 40, of Jamestown, NY, with six counts of theft of mail by a postal employee and two counts of delay of mail by a postal employee. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The indictment is the result of an investigation by U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
