Agent arresting suspect Office of Investigations

Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Mail Carrier Sentenced for Obstructing the Mail and Diverting Mail Packages

BOSTON – A Fall River U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employee was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston for obstructing the mail by diverting multiple packages in his custody. Rafael De Los Angeles, 43, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani to time served (approximately one day in prison) and six months of supervised release. Matthew Modafferi, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, NE Office made the announcement today.

Seymour Man Admits Involvement in Danbury Post Office Bribery and Kickback Scheme

Vanessa Roberts Avery, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Kenneth Cleevely, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, and Robert Fuller, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, announced that MICHAEL D. LUTZ, pleaded guilty today to a conspiracy offense stemming from a bribery and kickback scheme involving the Postmaster of the Danbury Post Office. This investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General.

De Kalb Woman Pleads Guilty to Misappropriation of Postal Funds

Jackson, MS – A De Kalb woman pled guilty to misappropriation of postal funds while serving as Postmaster. According to court documents, Stacey Eldridge Parker, 45, while serving as Postmaster of the Marion Post Office and Administrative Postmaster of the Bailey and Daleville Post Offices, took cash and other property of the United States Postal Service for personal use. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case.

Former Ithaca Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing Money Orders

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – Stephen Perrine, age 40, of King Ferry, New York, pled guilty today in federal court in Syracuse to stealing money orders from the United States Postal Service (USPS). United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi, United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG), Northeast Area Field Office, made the announcement.

Boston Man Sentenced for Armed Robbery of Postal Worker

BOSTON – A Boston man was sentenced today in federal court in Boston for the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier in Massachusetts. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Ketty Larco Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division made the announcement today. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.
