Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Former U.S. Postal Service Officer Pleads Guilty to Theft and Sale of Checks Addressed to Pittsburgh Area Businesses

A resident of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of theft of mail, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced today. Ahmad Omar Shareef, 35, pleaded guilty to four counts before United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand.

Indictment Accuses Mail Carrier of Selling Arrow Key and Stolen Checks

A mail carrier was arrested Thursday on an indictment that accuses her of selling a key to U.S. Postal Service mail collection boxes and selling checks stolen from the mail. Cambria Hopkins, 29, of Florissant, Missouri, was indicted October 30 on one count of conspiracy, one count of unlawful use of a mail key and one count of bribery. After her arrest at the U.S. Post Office in Clayton, she appeared in U.S. District Court in St. Louis and pleaded not guilty.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Matthew Modafferi, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, announced that DEBRA WATSON, 64, of Chicopee, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to obstruction of mails.

Former Postal Worker Sentenced to Probation for Mail Theft

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that DAVID RAYFORD (“RAYFORD”), age 40, of Kenner, La., was sentenced by United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter on October 17, 2024, to one year probation, payment of a $100 mandatory special assessment fee and three hundred dollars in restitution, for Mail Theft, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1709.
