Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Former USPS Employee Sentenced for Theft of Mail

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA –LEON TINSON, age 59, of New Orleans, Louisiana was sentenced on July 19, 2023, by U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to two years of probation and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee for theft of mail, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. This case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General.

Former Postal Employee Pleads Guilty To Stealing And Selling Firearm

Jacksonville, Florida – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that Maisha K. Daniels (46, Jacksonville) today pleaded guilty to selling a stolen firearm. Daniels faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set. This case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Omaha Man Sentenced to 12 Months and 1 Day for Theft of Government Property

Acting United States Attorney Susan T. Lehr announced that Jeffrey Bowlin, 55, of Omaha, Nebraska was sentenced on July 6, 2023, in federal court in Omaha for theft of government property. The Honorable Brian C. Buescher sentenced Bowlin to 12 months and one day in prison. This case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

Former Postal Worker Convicted of Mail Fraud

Salt Lake City, Utah – A federal jury convicted a Salt Lake City woman and former Express Mail Clerk with the United States Postal Service (USPS) for delaying and destroying immigration mail that was intended for delivery. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG), is investigating the case.

Essex County Man Sentenced to 82 Months in Prison for Using Credit Cards Stolen from U.S. Mail to Defraud Banks and Commit Identity Theft

NEWARK, N.J. – An Essex County, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to 82 months in prison, three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $330,391 in restitution for his role in scheming with at least one U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employee and others to steal credit cards from the mail and then steal victims’ identities in order to use the stolen cards to make hundreds of thousands of dollars of retail and online purchases.
