  • The Board of Governors provides the Postal Service with strategic direction, similar to a corporate board of directors.
  • As of October 2016, only one of the nine governor positions was filled. In December 2016, there will be no remaining governors, unless more are confirmed. This unprecedented situation could have broad ramifications for the Postal Service.

The U.S. Postal Service's Board of Governors is at a crossroads. The Board oversees the Postal Service, similar to a corporate board of directors, and is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the organization operates in the public interest. But the Board has struggled for decades against impressions that it is not as active or relevant as it could be. While the Board has broad responsibilities, many argue that it lacks the authority to meet those responsibilities.

The significant number of vacancies on the Board has created additional challenges. As of October 2016, only one of the nine governor positions was filled. And the last remaining governor's time on the Board will end December 8, 2016. If no new governors are confirmed before then, the Postal Service will lose the legal authority to complete a wide variety of important actions. This would be an unprecedented situation.

The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General has examined five decades of in-depth research on the Postal Service's governance model. Our report also explores corporate governance best practices from the private sector. This research is meant to help inform the conversation as policymakers actively consider changes to the Postal Service's governance model and the Board faces a period of reconstitution.

I was not getting all my mail the last couple months so I reported this fact to the postal clerks at 43612 Toledo, oh.due to the fact that my mail box does not lock, the post office stopped delivery and for the passed two weeks I have been allowed to go to the post office twice a week,(every three days)and get my mail. now the clerk told me on 3/16/2017 that they will not be able to allow me to get my mail for very much longer,I get my RXs in the mail. I don't know what the law says but the postal USO states I can get my mail 6 days a week.I don't have spare money to get a post office box.I suspect tampering by unknown, before this time period I received all my mail at my address. any box security issues are my landlords responsibility, please advise. thanks and have a great day!

I have been to my post office....37922, I have called the # given to me that was supposed to be the supervisor,it was busy all day, I attempted to fill out the form for a missing package online......does anyone know this form doesn't work.....this has happened too many times..so many that I am leaving a comment about the terrible post office service....also just let it go in the past because everybody knows how terrible the post office is........currently I have 2 packages missing...tracking info says .package delivered...... all the post office employees can do is say , I am sorry. Here is the best part, there are small locker type boxes at the entrance to my subdivision....they are locked, so if someone is stealing they must have a key, I unlock, no package or even a note to come to the post office because it could not be delivered... meaning it doesn't fit in my box, or the other 2 boxes slightly larger than my box. Today I checked, I had a key to open one of the slightly larger boxes, got my hopes up, I had someone else's package in my mail box. I did not know the person, there was no place to put it...had to drive to the post office and take it back inside.....also I specifically ask about shipping method...I was told fed ex.. I was happy about that...yep fed ex all the way to my post office, all they had to do was bring it to me. I try to never use the post office, but this is getting ridiculous. Please somebody do something.....and why can't this mail just get delivered to my home.....I am more than willing to put up a mailbox.... who do I speak to about this?

I two am wondering who is running things, my sister and brother-in-law live in Green Camp, Ohio you have a small post office open for the village from noon to 4 Monday - Saturday ( working hours for most people with a real job) no that is 4 hrs of pay for someone that it would take maybe and hr to deliver by walking and 20 mins by mail truck! They have called and complained and nothing is ever done this office holds my brother-in-law ' s medicines that he can only get by mail hostage by their hours and his work schedule. Amazon will not deliver in the two day time frame and many other place will not deliver to a P.O Box. They are not choosing this problem the post office has created and needs to do something about it, on top of the fact you are wasting my tax dollars. Please tell me who is regulating this?

The postal service doesn't get any tax dollars. It operates on the proceeds of the sale of its products and services.

The USPS is the very worst service in the US! Put Donald Trump in charge or hire me! I mailed a 6 lb package for $15.91 to Athens Ga from Irving, tx on Dec 7th. Expected delivery date 12/12! Today I checked the location and learned it was in Chicago! Who the hell makes the route decisions? Hire competent people to make this service functional! I definitely could make more practical decisions on how to run a more efficient operation.

your mail service to my location dexter, nm 88230 sucks. I paid $8.45 for priority mail delivery las vegas,nv 89147 over a week ago, and I still have not received it. a fast turtle could have made the trip from las vegas to dexter,nm in this link of time. if there is nothing you and department can do about the mail service to this area, I will never use usps services again for anything. thank you for your lousy services.

I been having a problem receiving my mail since the day after Thanksgiving. I went in my local post office and made them aware of the situation their response was I will talk to your mail carrier and give you a call back. I went in the office everyday this week and spoke with the supervisor he still has not did anything about it. Today is Dec 2, 2016 and I still haven't received any mail. This is starting to feel a lil scary knowing my mail man is playing with my mail. I discovered that he came and crossed all our names off the card that's placed in the box and still didn't deliver my mail. The supervisor refused to give me the mail carrier name but I know his number is #26. He speeds through the neighborhood like he is on some type of drug! Something really needs to be done because it's illegal to play with someone's mail.

I need someone from the Scotch Plains PO to find out where the sensitive letter with my SS# was opened before delivering to a lock mail box.

    Dec 01, 2016
  • anon

I received a letter completely open with my SS# on it. I have a locked mail box . This means it had been opened before it was delivered with possibly a letter opener. When I called my local office all they could say is they were sorry. This leave it open to indemnity fraud. If it was delivered to someone else they now have my SS# and if it someone in the post office they must know where they incorrectly delivered it or opened it themselves. I need to stop this possibility of fraud now before or I will blame the post office and get legal help,

I am deeply disappointed with USPS. I have certified with signature legal documents to a Inglewood Courthouse judge and I have never received the green form back. I recalled you that I paid for a full service but the postal employee just rudely pushed me to accept it and that is it, even though I paid for it. So, I have to pay and your carrier can mistake or neglect on completing the service without consequences. Moreover, I had to stop my life to track it as your online service is totally useless in the case. USPS does not pay for my time doing your job. . I paid for a proof of delivery with insurance, and I did not get it. Your beautiful employees even suggested me to go to Inglewood USPS facility. What a insanity! They gave me the most absurds assumptions for me not getting the green form, such as it fell off the package and that is it. With a little use of intelligence just made another one and completed the service. It is not my problem if the mailman lost it. In fact, you need upgrade your system. I could realize USPS is useless and unreliable on delivering important documents. By the end, after long time wasted calling Inglewood, they decided to mail me a copy of their papers with an unidentifiable signature; I mean just a circle. It is not a signature at all. To finalize, it is a waste of life to fight you, as it is stupid to use your services again. USPS of today is totally unreliable. I have already given up to use you internationally for failure in servicing and tracking service accordingly. Now, I am giving up domestically. Let's put money in the small business. There are others carriers out there that can handle such service probably efficiently. Surely, I am not going to use those partnershiping with you. I am scared of your lack of professionalism. We do not even have decent access to address such mistakes, and not to count how some employee are unnecessarily rude and do not have personal and customer service skills to handle problems. I rather pay more but have peace of mind. I hope others citizens also realize that and give up on you. Watch out that the bad and negligent service of today can mean the unemployment of tomorrow. It is all about energy. This is gonna be placed on my Facebook. Feel free to contact me if you are able to understand that business is a two way road; otherwise, stay connected to this paradigm of ignorance. No more USPS.

Question: How do I file a complaint against the Postal Service Offices located in Memphis, Tennessee?

    Nov 26, 2016

How can I get the USPO guidelines for locating and installing an existing post office box in a commercial building - correct height, mounting process, etc. . The local post office told us it was OK to move the box within the building lobby, but we need to know any restrictions as to hight, mounting etc. It is an older box, about 20" high and 16" wide, with a mounting slot in the back.

I asked for my mail to be put on hold from October 27, 2016 to November 17, 2016, I handed my request to my postal carrier. The mail was to be delivered on November 18, 2016 and it was not. I called the 800 number and the worker said an inquiry could be sent to the local post office but that would take time for an answer, I said I would go in person. I went in person and was told they had nothing there but they would call the sorting station, they said they got no answer because they most be getting the carriers out and gave me the number to call. I have tried calling and the line is always busy. So I have three questions where is my mail, how do I get my mail and who covers any late charges if my bills are late?

I am filling this complaint in hopes that there is a resolution to this on going problem. I live in the area of Zip code 48393 and this is the second complaint I have filed. The last complaint I filed was a week ago. The D.C. Office returned my call and said the problem was resolved but here I am again with the same complaint. My complaint is that the residential mail is being delivered as late as 9:00 PM in the evening. This is way to late to deliver mail. People and children walk these streets after dark and to have mail trucks out that late driving over the speed limit is wrong. The other issue is that the mail carriers are new and do not know the area and go around the neighborhood many times. Our mail went from 1:00PM in the afternoon to 9:00PM at night. I found out that postal workers are being fired and layed off and not being replaced. I also found that Postal carriers are being treated so badly that they are taking sick time because they can't take the pressure. This needs to be addressed before I take this whole situation to the inspector general.

First Issue: The Southfield, MI Post Office gave incorrect information when a change of address form was completed. One individual's mail was to be forwarded to Conyer, GA. The person's first and last name was written on the form. Yet, the postal worker said use the "Family" code instead of the "Individual" code. Now, everyone's mail that lives in the home went to Conyers, GA instead of the one individual listed on the form!): Second Issue: The Bloomfield Hills, MI (HUB 48304) was not helpful at all with correcting the the problem since I lived in B. Hills I had to go there. Instead of her calling Conyers, GA to see if an important package and mail was there, she refuse. Told me...Do it yourself. Poor customer service, unwillingness to help in an emergency, and just downright nasty makes me not want to use the post office, if I can avoid it.

I changed my mailing address from a property I lived in that is for sale, to my new address last spring. Everything went fine until this week around Nov 10, 2016 when mail began coming to my old address. If had sold the property or not checked on it I would never have known. Fortunately I changed my address with my bank and others myself. Why am I getting mail at the old address again? How many times will I have to change it?
