Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

O.C. Surgeon Sentenced to Over 2 Years in Prison for Accepting Over $300,000 in Illicit Payments to Perform Surgeries at Corrupt Hospital

LOS ANGELES – An Orange County orthopedic surgeon was sentenced today to 33 months in federal prison for accepting more than $315,000 in bribes and kickbacks for performing spinal surgeries at a now-defunct Long Beach hospital whose owner later was imprisoned for committing a massive workers’ compensation insurance fraud. The FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation, United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, and the California Department of Insurance investigated this matter.

National Enforcement Action Results in 78 Individuals Charged for $2.5B in Health Care Fraud

The Justice Department, together with federal and state law enforcement partners, announced today a strategically coordinated, two-week nationwide law enforcement action that resulted in criminal charges against 78 defendants for their alleged participation in health care fraud and opioid abuse schemes that included over $2.5 billion in alleged fraud. USPS OIG and other federal and state law enforcement agencies participated in the operation.

Gloucester County Man Admits Healthcare Fraud

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Gloucester County, New Jersey, man today admitted defrauding his employer’s health insurance plan out of more than $4 million by submitting fraudulent claims for medically unnecessary compounded medications, Attorney for the United States Vikas Khanna announced. Attorney for the United States Khanna also thanked U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General for its assistance in the investigation.

Physician and pharmacy settle claims for unnecessary medications

HOUSTON – A 61-year-old doctor and a compounding pharmacy he operates paid the United States $7.9m to resolve claims they improperly billed the Department of Labor, Office of Workers’ Compensation Program (DOL-OWCP). Hamdani. Dr. Ajay Kumar Aggarwal and Medley Compounding Pharmacy LLC knowingly and willfully submitted, or caused the submission of, false claims to DOL-OWCP. Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Ulrich, U.S. Postal Service - Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation.

Nine Defendants Sentenced in $126M Compounding Fraud Scheme

Nine defendants – including three compounding pharmacy owners, a physician, two pharmacists, and three patient recruiters – were sentenced yesterday for their respective roles in a years-long, multi-state scheme to defraud the Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) and TRICARE, the health care program for U.S. service members and their families. The USPS OIG, DOD OIG, and DOL OIG investigated the case with assistance from the DVAO OIG.
