Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Federal grand jury indicts postal worker for stealing mail

BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Christopher Porter, 37, of Angola, NY, with two counts of theft of mail and six counts of delay of mail by a postal employee. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Former Post Office Employee Indicted for Mail Theft

BOSTON – A former United States Postal Service (USPS) employee has been indicted by a federal grand jury of theft of mail and theft of government funds. Michael Murray, 36, of Lynn, has been indicted on one count of theft of mail matter by an employee and one count of theft of government money. Newark Resident Admits Bank Fraud Conspiracy

NEWARK, N.J. – An Essex County, New Jersey, man admitted his role in a scheme to steal checks sent through the mail and commit bank fraud. Malachi Jefferson pleaded guilty on April 22, 2024. Former Postal Carrier Pleads Guilty to Theft of Mail in South Berwick and Eliot

According to court records, between January and May 2023, Russell Joaquin, 48, opened and stole the contents of greeting cards from his postal route. Joaquin was interviewed by investigators from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and admitted to stealing greeting cards from his mail routes in South Berwick and Eliot to take the cash and gift cards they contained. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case.

Final Defendant Sentenced In Connection With $1.3 Million Fraud Scheme Involving U.S. Postal Employees
