Postal Employee Guilty of Mail Theft

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney David I. Courcelle announced that TAMYA TRAVIS (“TRAVIS”), age 27, of New Orleans, pled guilty today to a two-count indictment charging her with mail theft.

According to the indictment, TRAVIS was working as a mail handler for USPS and stole cell phones that had been sent in the mail.

At sentencing, TRAVIS faces up to five years imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, up to 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.  United States District Judge Jay C. Zainey set the sentencing for November 17, 2026.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Christine M. Calogero of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
