The Purpose of this reward program is to encourage the reporting of criminal activity involving USPS employees, contractors, or others who interact with postal programs and operations through our hotline. Based on the tip provided you may be eligible for a monetary reward.
Eligibility
All USPS employees, contractors, as well as members of the public, who voluntarily provide original information about criminal activity involving USPS employees, contractors, or others who interact with postal programs and operations may be eligible for consideration under this program. Only individuals (as opposed to entities) are eligible. You do not have to be a current USPS employee or contractor to be eligible for a reward.
The following are not eligible:
- USPS OIG employees
- Postal Inspection Service employees
- Postal Police Officers (PPOs)
- The Postmaster General
- Postal Career Executive Service (PCES) personnel
- Postal Service Law Department employees
- Members of the Board of Governors and staff
- Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) employees including PRC Commissioners
- Registered Confidential Informants (CI)
To be eligible for a reward, you must provide your identity and your contact information at the time of your hotline submission. Additionally, you may receive telephonic or electronic communication from the case agent assigned to the investigation. To qualify, you must respond and provide follow-up information to the case agent.
Confidentiality
A reporting individual who requests confidentiality will have their identity protected as provided by USPS OIG policy.
Consistent with USPS OIG policy, we will protect your identity, but it may be necessary for the USPS OIG to disclose the identity if it is determined to be necessary during the investigation of the complaint, or if required by law. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this program, your name, Social Security Number, and other information may be required for payment of any reward.
Reward
- The information you provide must result in either the arrest and conviction of the suspect or a monetary recovery of at least $1 million to the USPS.
- Rewards range from $1,000 to a maximum of $10,000.
- Rewards are subject to the availability of funds.
- Reward determinations are final and are not eligible for appeal.

No. Reward determinations are final and unappealable.
Once an investigation has been closed and a reward determination made, USPS OIG will contact the reporting individual that a reward has been approved. Please do not contact the USPS OIG Hotline for reward status.
Yes, an individual can be disqualified from future eligibility for the following reasons:
- Frivolous or fraudulent reporting
- Submitting complaints on behalf of an ineligible reporting individual.
