Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Postal Service Supervisor Charged with Misappropriation of Postal Funds

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Cape May County, New Jersey, man was arrested for misappropriation of postal funds, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today. U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited agents of the USPS, Office of Inspector General, Northeast Area Field Office, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi, with the investigation leading to the complaint.

Two Arrested for Armed Robberies of Postal Workers

BOSTON – Two Massachusetts individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the armed robberies of United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carriers that took place on Nov. 29, 2022 in Mattapan, Mass., and Dec. 16, 2022 in Hyde Park, Mass. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General.

Former Buffalo County Post Office Employee Sentenced to Probation for Misappropriation of Postal Funds

MADISON, WIS. – Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Megan Torrez, 45, Alma, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 3-years of federal probation for misappropriation of postal funds. The charge against Torrez was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

Former Postal Worker Convicted of Mail Fraud

Salt Lake City, Utah – A federal jury convicted a Salt Lake City woman and former Express Mail Clerk with the United States Postal Service (USPS) for delaying and destroying immigration mail that was intended for delivery. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG), is investigating the case.

Meriden Man Sentenced to 7 Years in Federal Prison for Trafficking Cocaine through the Mail

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that BIMAEL ACEVEDO-ROMAN, 29, of Meriden, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 84 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for trafficking cocaine into Connecticut. The USPS Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG) and other agencies investigated the case.
