Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Durant Woman Pleads Guilty to Mail Theft

A Durant woman pled guilty to mail theft, announced U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Scott Pierce, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, Southern Area Field Office. Cori T. Hopson, 22, pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Jackson. According to court records, Hopson was responsible for picking up mail from remotely managed post offices for delivery to another post office. Jacksonville Contract Postal Carrier Sentenced For Theft Of Mail

Jacksonville, Florida – United States District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan has sentenced former USPS contract mail carrier Randolph Varbelow to time served, approximately four months’ imprisonment. He had pleaded guilty to theft of mail matter on November 15, 2022. According to court documents, Varbelow worked as a contract mail carrier. Worcester Postal Supervisor Sentenced for Mail Theft

BOSTON – A supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service was sentenced today in federal court in Worcester for stealing packages containing cocaine on at least eight occasions. Dombroski was employed as Postal Service Supervisor at the Worcester Main Post Office. Jury Convicts Former U.S. Postal Service Clerk Of Stealing Mail And Money Orders

LAS VEGAS – A jury convicted a former U.S. Postal Service clerk on Wednesday for stealing a customer’s mail and cashing the postal money orders worth over $2,300 that were inside. According to court documents and evidence presented during trial, between June 28, 2016 and July 6, 2016, James Earl Magee, 32, stole an envelope containing three money orders worth about $2,340.27 and cashed the money orders for his personal use. Satsuma Postal Carrier Indicted On Theft Of Mail Charge

Jacksonville, Florida – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces the return of an indictment charging Sara Brady (47, Satsuma), formerly a postal carrier in St. Johns County, with theft of mail by a postal employee. If convicted, Brady faces up to 5 years in federal prison and payment of restitution to the victims in the case.
