Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Federal grand jury indicts postal worker for stealing mail

BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Christopher Porter, 37, of Angola, NY, with two counts of theft of mail and six counts of delay of mail by a postal employee. Former Post Office Employee Indicted for Mail Theft

BOSTON – A former United States Postal Service (USPS) employee has been indicted by a federal grand jury of theft of mail and theft of government funds. Michael Murray, 36, of Lynn, has been indicted on one count of theft of mail matter by an employee and one count of theft of government money. Matthew Modafferi, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, Northeast Area Office made the announcement today.

Newark Resident Admits Bank Fraud Conspiracy

NEWARK, N.J. – An Essex County, New Jersey, man admitted his role in a scheme to steal checks sent through the mail and commit bank fraud. Malachi Jefferson pleaded guilty on April 22, 2024. Former postal manager who stole drugs from the mail pleads guilty to drug and gun charges

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Ralph Minni pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance. The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a $5,000,000 fine. The plea is a result of an investigation by the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia of the Northeast Area

New Jersey company and CEO pay $316,779 for defrauding U.S. Postal Service following wire fraud conviction

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Cornerstone Facility Solutions, LLC (Cornerstone), a maintenance and repair service located in Brick, New Jersey, and its CEO, Paul Galgon III, paid $316,779 to resolve their False Claims Act liability for falsifying invoices and inflating the cost of services provided to the USPS. The USPS Office of Inspector General investigated this case.
