Working with our Law Enforcement Partners

Our special agents investigate nationwide internal crimes and fraud committed by postal employees and contractors as well as postal employee misconduct. We work with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and local prosecutors across the country to prosecute these crimes. 

In some instances, we uncover much larger criminal activity being carried out by multiple individuals and organizations. In many of these cases, we partner with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to identify and hold responsible those who take advantage of the public’s trust in our postal system.

Postal Service Letter Carrier Pleads Guilty to Stealing Mail

NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that TIMOTHY MCMILLAN, JR., pleaded guilty on March 5, 2024 to Theft of Mail by a Postal Service employee. The U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General (“USPS-OIG”) received complaints regarding opened parcels that were delivered by the New Orleans Main Office Delivery Unit. On October 11, 2023, USPS-OIG Special Agents placed a greeting card containing $100 in mail to be processed and delivered by MCMILLAN while on his route.

Former Postal Employee Indicted for Delaying and Stealing U.S. Mail

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – RANDY BROWN, JR., was indicted on March 8, 2024 on four-counts including, unlawful delay of U.S. Mail matter by a postal employee. BROWN unlawfully secreted, detained, and delayed U.S. mail entrusted to him as a postal employee. BROWN faces up to 5 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, up to 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.

Jury Finds Gaffney Woman Guilty in Mail Theft Case

IGREENVILLE, S.C. —Takera A. Degree, was found guilty yesterday of stealing mail. In the spring of 2023, the USPS OIG received information about possible theft of mail from the Gaffney P.O. Approximately 100 postal customers reported mailing out greeting cards and other items from the Gaffney post office that were never received. The period of these customer complaints coincided with Degree’s short tenure with the post office. This case was investigated by the USPS OIG.

Beaumont postal employee sentenced for stealing mail

BEAUMONT, Texas – A Beaumont woman has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing mail in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Pamela Jo Rosas, 65, pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a postal employee and was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on March 4, 2024. This case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service-OIG.

Cape Girardeau Postal Worker Convicted of Stealing Mail

CAPE GIRARDEAU – A jury on Wednesday found a former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier guilty of charges accusing him of stealing and failing to deliver customers’ mail. After a trial lasting less than two days, Robert Gafford, 33, of Jackson, Missouri, was found guilty of one count of delaying or destroying mail and one count of embezzlement of mail. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case.
