Operating During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Date: 04/06/20 | Category: OIG

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I have had 3 or four issues with the post office in Ayer, MA. Often the employee (white man over 60) has his mask pulled all the way below the chin. They allow employees in with no mask and say nothing to them, and continue to let them take passport photos etc. When I say something to them, they act like they have zero responsibility.

Our postal delivery person is not wearing a mask when delivering mail and packages. We have posted a sign asking delivery people to wear masks as my wife and I are very susceptible to the COVID-19 virus.

He’s way more than 6 feet away, and is working outside. Unless he coughs or sneezes on your stuff you’ll be fine.

I have to go to the very small post office because USPS does not make home deliveries in Cowley WY.

The clerk does not always wear a mask and almost all other customers I have encountered on recent visits neither wear masks or observe the recommended social distancing.

I am a few years from being 90 and am the sole caregiver for my 83 year old invalid wife.

We both have health issues, so how can we be safe in the post office?

It is a matter if life or death.

Please assist me to be safe.

Just because you don’t believe that wearing masks helps doesn’t make it true. The complaint is valid and the ignorant attitudes showing here is why the U.S. is far ahead of the world in cases of Covid-19. It’s a shame our country is so uneducated and unwilling to accept the truth. China has a billion more people than the U.S. and fewer cases because of ignorance like we see here. I hope you and your wife continue to be safe, just do your best in the face of attitudes seen here.

I have not received mail from 1/2 to date 1/6/20. I need a check to survive and medicine and I can look at the pictures of your mail on the USPS site and I see my check. I am home bound and am dependent on the mail for my funds and medicine. They could at least find a way to notify people so they can prepare themselves for the delay, instead of hoping each day the mail will come, but nothing. I am 67 years old and in my whole adult life USPS has never been this undependable and I have never gone a week without mail being delivered. They knew the Covid situation months ago and that most things would be done via mail, yet they are not prepared. People are dependent on them. Unfortunately, they have a monopoly on the mailing system. Maybe it's time to take this away like they did the telephone from Pac Bell and the cable from Comcast.

Multiple packages lost. Over $100 in merchandise. Nothing has moved, no updates. Get it together. DHL was able to ship a package I recently ordered from Germany in LESS than a week from the order date. Yet, I cannot get an item from a single state away.

Every package I expect has been diverted on purpose. I know this is happening on purpose because the package will arrive at a facility nearby but then be sent out of state or somewhere crazy that serves no purpose. It would have been easier to just deliver these packages, but clearly they are being routed all over the place just to slow things down. Why handle them a dozen more times except to slow down the system?
Your problem is NOT covid or lack of employees. Your problem is people slowing progress on purpose.

Local post office is not following COVID-19 protocols regarding delivery of mail. They left a package notice in my PO Box that had been in 35 other PO Boxes before mine. This is definitely a violation of Covid protocols.
