Operating During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Date: 04/06/20 | Category: OIG

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I live in zip code 82007, and the Federal Postal workers inside the post office are not wearing masks. I’m 69 and do not appreciate the potential exposure to Covid. Is there anything that I can do?

I live in a small town in IN and I shave to get my mail at the post office. The workers don’t wear masks and they don’t make people wear them inside. It’s a very small space! I have a compromised immune system and don’t feel safe! What can I do?!

New postman distributing mail on Friday afternoon, Feb 12, in JC High School area, Johnson City, NY, does not wear a face mask. I had to ask a question and tried to keep my distance multiple times but am very concerned now that the mail courier at his job does not follow face mask order and puts residents at risk during covid 19 pandemic. Is there a way to contact his supervisor to provide education and change this behavior?

I had to ship some items today at the Milledgeville, Georgia post office. The workers hadn't been wearing masks over the last year so when I went earlier in the week (the first day people in federal buildings were supposed to wear masks) I was glad to see them in masks. Today when I went in none of them were wearing masks. Is this where to report the violation?

I ordered something from overseas on December 9th. It arrived at customs on December 29th. About a week ago I submitted a missing package form because I wanted to know what was going on with my package, such as if it was legitimately lost or it things were slow because of holiday returns and/or covid. I received a call from an employee saying that packages were being held for two weeks per covid restrictions... even though my package arrived in customs a month ago! I wasn't able to answer so it went to voicemail and I couldn't ask for more information. I understand the precautions, I'm fine with a reasonable delay since the item isn't a huge necessity, but come on! You can't claim the policy is two weeks and hold onto it for an entire month! It's January 31st, I just checked the tracking number and it's *still* in customs!

I know no employee will see this since this comment system is just meant to be a place for people to take out their anger. I'm adding my comment incase someone is experiencing something similar and wants to know if other people are dealing with it to.

Same issue here, my item is being held in Spanish customs. Not sure as to why but I’m thinking likely some sort of issue with the package. Going to attempt to contact customs, good luck with your issue! :/

I have the same problem, the package arrived in the US at customs on the 31st of December. Still there as of today, sent an inquiry about its whereabouts and got a voicemail saying the east coast is backed up by 4 weeks and that I'm expected to wait another month or two

Most states have issued a mask mandate, unless your exempt or in a situation that specifies its not required you have to wear it. So for the mass majority of us depending on where your at it is the law and enforceable. I don't like it either but it is what is and flying off the handle, insulting people esp when your the one thats wrong is how a Karen do.

1/27/21 At about 4:15 pm I visited my local post office in South Portland, Maine. While they do have plastic shield attached to the desk, the clerk was wearing no*** mask. I want to file a complaint about it.
