A picture is worth a thousand words. Or in the case of our blog, it’s worth a couple of hundred words. Pushing the Envelope introduces a new monthly feature in this space – an infographic from a recent audit to highlight the report, rather than a blog narrative.

For our inaugural entry, we share an infographic from our recent audit report on the U.S. Postal Service’s pay policies, in particular the provisions that allow managers to assign employees to lower pay grade positions. As the infographic indicates, USPS has three salary and wage rate retention categories that determine when and how management can assign an employee to lower-grade pay. Our audit report determined the Postal Service did not always properly assign employees to these lower grade positions. As a result, the risk of overpayment to employees not eligible for the salary and wage rate retention increases. We also reviewed management of the overall program and noted areas for improvement.
