The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

Can packages still be stuck? Mine was sent from PA (to Finland) 27th Feb and Etsy still says it's in US and "origin post is preparing shipment"?? Nothing has happened and seller doesn't answer my questions since they have closed the shop for this period... It has been 3 months and I don't know what to do. /--: I don't have tracking number or anything myself. I began to worry more when my other package from US arrived almost in time. Both of them were "unnecessary items" if that affects the delay.

I know complaints aren’t going to fix anything but I truly am curious and worried. I’m curious because I’ve also had a package just be set as “in route” and it’s passed it’s delivery date. I understand this pandemic has caused a lot of trouble but I don’t quite understand the reason behind not being able to track the package. That’s an automated system I assume so shouldn’t it work anyway? I’m nervous because my package includes my medicine in it and I need it regardless if whether I’m in quarantine or not. If I could get an answer or email regarding my package I’d really appreciate it. I have my tracking number ready and everything so please reach out. It would be most appreciated. Thank you all for your service and I respect what you do. I did before all this crap started happening.

Hello, My mom sent a package from MN to Berlin, Germany late March 2020. We still haven't received it here in Germany and I was wondering if packages are sent to quarantine before shipped overseas. It would be great to get more information on path the package took to understand if we should file a claim. Thank you. Best regards, Baylee

Covid-19 has stopped the tracking of mail? Is that a computer virus or a human virus. What's really "unimaginable" is that a package can be "in transit" for over a week with ZERO tracking movement information related to it - while that same package is 30 minutes away from the destination! This issue is with USPS in GREENSBORO - and these issues have been recorded PRE-Covid-19. Now there's another package with Priority Mail that is "stalled" somewhere in Massachusetts with the same issue. If you're older than 50 years in age, like me, then you would have to agree that "something" has changed with the service that USPS has today in it's shipping process/handling and this "something" is being reflected/electronically shown in the records of USPS Tracking itself. Specifics on individual shipments I can give, but I'm already dealing with refunds for the lack delivery in over two weeks. I just thought I would drop a bug in your collective "ears" about this. Take care -

Logging complaints is accomplishing nothing. I really hope they can start giving us more detailed responses as to why items are sitting for weeks and weeks. I have a package send back in April that cleared customs may 16th and it’s just moving through distribution. Another sitting In ISC Chicago since May 9. While others shipments arrive everyday. I get the feeling they are de-prioritizing international shipments.

On the complete this section on deliver on the Domestic Return Receipt, box B is signed Covid-19 was this done by the recipient or is it to done to prevent contact due to the pandemic? Need to know if my certified letter was actually delivered but again section B has the words Covid-19 written in it. Thanks

How is the USPS dealing with obtaining signatures for USPS Certified - Restricted Mail delivery? For example, your carrier wrote in his/her name and "Put in mailbox" on the green card. Is this proper delivery? From our perspective, this does not appear to be proper delivery.

I have been using USPS for my business for 19yrs, and had to disable it due to lost / poor delivery times since covid, and now only ship UPS. I have orders going to Canada that shipped in April and early may that are still sitting in the Detroit depot. You are just digging your own grave... somehow UPS can deliver things with minimal delays since Covid started, but not USPS. It is no wonder you are going out of business.

I was just notified by the post office in my city that my package that has been in Chicago since May 18th will not be delivered anytime soon due to COVID 19 outbreaks. If you need something desperately, you may want to find another way of shipping. One of my friends just received an item that came from outside of Europe with no issues. I was told Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami were holding all international packages.

Dear OIG, Thank you for doing a great job during this difficult times. We know the pandemic and it's repercussions has not made it easy for you and your employees at USPS. We wanted to bring to your attention an issue we would like you to understand and provide some feedback and action. We have a key in a lock-box that USPS can access, that is outside our front door, so that the mail delivery person can enter and place mail into the three mailboxes for the three apartments in this building. However over the past three weeks or so, we (all three tenants) have noticed that our mail and packages has consistently been left outside the main door, usually in a large pile. We all receive important documents from time to time and some are time sensitive and can have legal implications. Our packages are also prone to being stolen as they have been prior to the pandemic. We are wondering why the mail delivery person has stopped using the key to enter and sort the mail like it was being done previously which we understand is part of his/her job? We also noticed on a few occasions that the USPS mail delivery person does not wear a mask nor gloves. So is this the protocol and safety measures mandated by USPS? We do rely on USPS for delivery of our mail, and would appreciate some kind of direction and possible rectification by your office regarding this issue, so as not to force us into some type of future legal action. Thank you for taking the time to read through my comment. I hope you and your families are safe and healthy. best, Neil M.

I ordered a personalized birthday gift for my patner from Etsy in the U.S to be delivered to the U.K. ordered 26 of April, dispatched 28th of April, my package has been sitting in Los Angeles international distribution center since the 6th of may under the heading of still in transit. I had the luxury of paying £20 first class shipping for a package that hasn't been updated in almost a month. Although we are now well past my partner's birthday i still really want this delivery. I can understand covid will inevitably slow things down and all postal services are under enourmous stress, I genuinely applaud them for their performance through this difficult time, but at the very least USPS needs to be servicicing customers with an update on proceedings, people lose sleep over things like

My package finally came to Newark, DE, that is closest post office to my home, on the 26th of May. The expected delivery date was the 26th. But I did not receive it even today (the 28th of May). In the tracking, the status is "Alert Awaiting Delivery Scan." Is my package lost? Or Is this because of the Corona delay? If this is the corona delay, how many days will I wait?

I sent time-sensitive (and personally sensitive) documents to the US. They have been stuck "In Transit" since May 7th. Today is May 28th. If there is a delay specifically related to Covid19 I am sympathetic to that. But on the other hand, there is no transparency on the status of my package and I do not think that is fair. After contacting USPS, they told me it was with Customs although the tracking status tells me it is moving within the USPS network. After 20 days, I get the feeling it is lost but who knows... I can only continue to lose sleep over this. Tracking History: May 7, 2020 In Transit to Next Facility -Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility. This seems to be the norm right now, Jason. I've got a dozen packages that I have sent out internationally that are all stuck in customs for 60+ days now. Same scenario as what you described in your tracking details. Very frustrating, but I've been on hold with the USPS multiple times and have spoken to them in person and the answer is basically "it is what it is." Doesn't seem like there is much they can do and it doesn't seem like they have visibility once the orders get stuck. Hopefully they all arrive eventually.

I’m very distressed. I had an envelope with sensitive work information sent to me via priority mail 1 day express. I spent the extra $30 to have it shipped the next day from California to Pennsylvania. My envelope has been at the LA international distribution center for 2 days and has not moved. I’m concerned by the other comments I’m seeing, am I to wait months to receive my mail?

PRIORITY MAIL EXPRESS® SERVICE WILL NOT CHANGE. 5 days isn't that drastic of a wait and an outfit isn't a priority, especially since social distancing guidelines are still in effect. You paid for your things to be shipped and they were. Everyone is dealing with delays and short staff so try to have a little more empathy and a little less narcissism.

I've been following a package shipped from China and noticed it was stuck in Inglewood for nearly a month. After reading this message from the IG, I felt it important to voice my support for the postal service. I don't think most people understand the enormous amount of mail going through these centers, particularly from or to overseas locations. I'm lucky that my product isn't vital for my existence. I can wait a while for it and I'll enjoy it just as much, maybe even more, when it does come through and I think it's important that postal employees that I know they're doing the best they can under these circumstances. I'm sure those working in these distribution centers are utterly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of packages and they deserve our understanding and compassion.

Our agency purchases Return Receipt Request for proof of delivery of official legal documents. During the past month we have received RRR which have NOT been signed by the receiving party and both are now claiming the delivery was not made. Are signatures NOT being required during the pandemic?

Hi. I’ve been waiting now for two packages. The first reached Chicago ISC on the 8th of May. Here it is the 29th and it’s still “Inbound to Customs.” The second package well, the same thing. This one says it’s “In Transit” which ultimately I got super excited. All for nothing. I just found out it’s still sitting at ISC NY. Apparently, it looks like we’re all going through the same thing. I’m guessing my package is really not in transit, and is just stuck waiting for a customs clearance. Very frustrating to say the least. I do however have sympathy for the postal workers and customs agents. I can’t imagine the overwhelming amount of parcels coming in and out everyday. I hope we all get what we’ve been waiting for sooner then later.

During this difficult times, I can appreciate the challenges. However, when I track my package, mailed to Ireland in late April 2020, the information is confusing and implies that my item left the country on May 2nd. The Irish mail service, An Post and the Irish Customs Service had to tell me that “ it ain’t necessarily so” as the package has yet to show up in this country and that they ALSO have an issue with this wording. It would have been so useful (and less time confusing) to be given the correct information, ie that the item is held up at the airport. I would be grateful if you would reach out to me and resolve as these are important medications, sent in error first class mail rather than express.

My package sent from Southern California to Hungary (Europe) with birthday gifts for family has been stuck at LAX International Service Center since April 17th. I paid $100+ for shipping. I do understand that the pandemic is slowing things down, but this is extreme. Why is USPS accepting mail if it can't process and deliver shipments?
