Background

This report presents the results of our self-initiated audit of property conditions at the Annapolis (leased), Columbia (owned), and Legion Avenue (leased) post offices in the Baltimore District. This audit was designed to provide Postal Service management with timely information on potential risks related to property conditions. The Postal Service is required to maintain a safe and healthy environment for both employees and customers in accordance with its internal policies and procedures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety laws.

Our objective was to determine if Postal Service management is adhering to building maintenance, safety and security standards, and employee working condition requirements at post offices.

I received an envelope that was torn open. It came from Virginia Beach to my address in Annapolis MD 21403 and the content of the envelope was a key to my house. The envelope looked ripped open but there was no explanation for it.

There is a USPS facility in Moncure, NC in dire need of the same inspection performed here. The building has serious structural issues. How were these inspections initially determined as needed?

Who determines what post office will get a property condition review? When I walk into the two post offices within my city I feel like I've walked into the 1960s! As for your employees, I can't even imagine working in such an environment. It is drab and uninviting enough to make you sad if you had to work there seven days a week for 8 hours a day! As an employee even if I had to buy my own paint to brighten up the place I would. Although putting lipstick on a pig still makes it a pig at least I'd get some kind of hope from such a depressing environment to work in! (Pittsburg, CA) The post office north of this town in Brentwood there is a night and day difference! Please help your employees in Pittsburg, CA, I think it will assist in uplifting their spirits!!
