Say you run a business – a big one – and you come up with a new product, one you believe can benefit millions of potential customers. When it becomes available, you want to make sure your salespeople can tell customers about it…right?

Three years ago, the U.S. Postal Service rolled out Informed Delivery, a free feature which allows customers to digitally preview their letter mail and package delivery via email notifications, online dashboard, or mobile application. Postal Service Headquarters staff from Corporate Communications and Delivery and Retail Operations provided instructions to employees at USPS retail facilities on how to direct customers to sign up. So how did they do?

Pretty well, as it turned out. As we noted in our recent audit report, retail window employees at 33 of 34 of the randomly selected retail units our auditors visited correctly referred us to the Postal Service’s Informed Delivery website when asked about how to sign up. At the one facility where the employee incorrectly responded to our inquiry, local management took immediate corrective actions. Postal Service managers and staff we spoke with at the headquarters, area, district, and local levels attributed these positive results to the quality of communication provided about Informed Delivery.

I have not received an actual image in several weeks while receiving probably 100 pieces of mail. Have you ceased the service?

I have not been receiving my scanned mail for a few days now. Some of the mail is tax related and title info. So today I received the scanned mail for today but not the mail from a few days ago. This is just not right!!!

The same exact thing is happening to us!! On 11/5/20 it showed that a very important letter was coming that day. Here we are, tomorrow makes 5 DAYS and it still has not been received! Where is it?? And what is happening to our mail?? I am furious. I contacted the local PO and they told me that due to the election mail, regular mail was put on hold basically until the election mess was over! I told them that was totally unacceptable and unnecessary! Yesterday Informed Delivery showed mail coming and we didn’t receive those items either. So now we have 4 important pieces of mail floating around somewhere.

ME TOO. Same exact thing. I received what was scanned for today, actually today but not the mail scanned Friday which was a government tax check that is owed to me and my cash card. My packages have not arrived. I’m so furious idk what to do. I have sent in a request and all I got was a call saying we are doing our best. Unacceptable. I need my mail now. Did you ever get yours?

It would be really professional of the USPS if someone would respond to the reason behind informed delivery's abrupt discontinuance of mail piece images. Obviously this is widespread. Not responding to this issue is not only very unprofessional, it gives the perception that the USPS does not care. Whatever the issue is, if you are transparent and communicate with the public about it, most will understand the situation. No response simply promotes endless thoughts about why this is occurring. Do a good thing and put out a statement about it so that we can move on, please.

Informed Delivery was a great idea and worked really well for the past 8 months (since I signed up). I used to receive an email by 9AM every morning with all the scans. Now I receive the email at about 4PM with NO scans. Maybe a random 3rd class piece. There are NO scans of 1st class mail. In the past 7 days, EVERY notification has said that there is mail but no scans are available. When I go to the box, there's 1st class mail. I guess it's a good idea, when it works. Disappointing.

This service is nice when you get the mail on the day it is posted, otherwise we are told usps has a week to deliver mail on the informed delivery. Now we are not getting mail delivered or picked up.

I was getting informed delivery and then it stopped completely. Now when I go into the system it tells me the same address is incorrect and/or not available. I've waited almost a year and still my address hasn't be readded so I can get Informed Delivery. Since half the time I don't get my bills delivered (and I got tired of paying late fees because I didn't get my statements) I now get everything delivered via email and pay everything online. USPS has shot themselves in the foot in my opinion.

Like many others, I no longer receive any images at all for any pieces of mail. I only get notification that there is a piece of mail of which they have no image. This has been happening for about the past month. Two email queries to USPS resulted in no response at all. Since this appears very widespread, I can only assume this is a deliberate decision by USPS. My local mail carrier asked his supervisor about it and he claimed ignorance. The mail carrier sated that he suspects this has something to do with the mail-in voting controversy. I guess it is a possibility.

Hi! So many people here are stating that lately there are no scanned images in their Informed Delivery notifications, even when signing in. The USPS is obviously monitoring this thread because they responded to a possible fraud issue/question. Are they having technical difficulties with this feature? If so, is it everywhere or in certain areas? Are they temporarily or permanently removing this feature? USPS - any insight you can give us here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My informed delivery also has not been working for the last few weeks. My email notification comes later in the day when it used to be earlier in the day. When I do receive the email or check the website, it either states there is no mail today, when there is indeed mail inside the box OR there hasn't been images of any of my mail. I'm not speaking of junk mail, I'm speaking of bills and important stuff. Lastly, it has been twice where a check was mailed to me from a previous employer and it never showed up. I would have to contact them to do a stop payment and reissue of funds. What is going on???

I love Informed Delivery, but my regular mail no longer seems to appear on the dashboard. It will tell me HOW MANY pieces I have arriving, but no images... UNLESS they are an advertisement that will allow me to click on a link to go to the advertiser's web site (i.e. Bed, Bath & Beyond, Citibank, and Progressive Insurance were the vendors this week.) All I see is this message: "There are 3 mailpieces for which we do not currently have images that are included in Yesterday's mail." Is this temporary? Is this the new standard? Do I need to file a complaint so that there will be some kind of service ticket? My girls missed their $20 birthday card from Grandpa and we couldn't prove that it was sent to us. Luckily, a neighbor on the next block walked it over to us about 2 weeks later. Help???

I have had Informed Delivery for a few years now and always liked it...until I moved this last time about 3 months ago. Now suddenly none of my packages are ever shown on there, not as coming in, or delivered...if i add tracking of one, it disappears and I still dont get notifications on it, no matter how many times I change and update my preferences! Maybe someone here can help me out?!

Around 1970 the Mail System changed, Snail Mail ? Rain,Sleet or Snow, the mail always was delivered om time, Always. The more money made, the slower it got. Always living on, what so little money that was paid, But people did manage to survive, I have informed delivery service but, it does not work, if I am not informed? My package has been staled. The last information I received was August 15th.It was posted starting the 9th of Aug. It is now the 28th and NO communication of its status..... only that it is "In Transit arriving late"? 600 miles from one place to the final destination, At a staggering cost. for 9 lbs, POOR Business practices leads to closures of many great businesses . The future of USPS looks bleak at best.To think?, I wanted to be a postman when I was a child. The US.Postal Service has put the wrong people out in the cold to achieve their goal? shame on you.I will do my best to avoid using USPS in the future. No matter the mailing costs. Avoiding a disruption of mail services ( that you have done) is a simple misdirection to use the American public to achieve what USPS really wants MONEY and MORE of it. JUST how much is enough? USPS has now become a relic.

Off topic response by John Richardson, who apparently did not read the article concerning Informed Delivery. Informed Delivery is an excellent service, which unfortunately is not yet available to all zip codes. I recommend that all businesses and customers sign up for this free service, of being notified electronically of each piece of mail to be delivered to your address, each day.

I was not told about informed delivery even after I asked about how I could find out about mail I had coming since I was having problems with our carrier. I had to find out about it online. The only issue with informed delivery is, you can select the checkbox to state you did not receive the mail. But there is nobody tracking it and so I still never get about 25% of my mail. I wish there were a way they would track it and when it's a pattern, they would look into it. Also, I should have been informed about informed delivery 2 years ago.

Debbie LeGrand- 100% agree, and same thing for me did you just said, except I only get 5% of my packages. I blessed so many sellers out and it wasn't even them!! It was the USPS! Although it will be a cold day in you-know-where before they ever admit any wrongdoing or even an accident or misplacement. We don't share my missing mails not an accident. Pretty sure mine's just old-fashioned Vengeance & spite... and a lack of wanting to work on their behalf. I'm sure because it shows the package makes it to United States/customs and that's it. It falls into a big black hole somewhere. Prob some abandoned building or dumpster or trash burn pile. But you barely ever hear about that. The media should be talking about that over over like all the other that they do. Oh the times we live in!! Our Fore Fathers must be Rolling in their graves!!

I have been using informal delivery and the mail carrier returns to sender my mail because he knows that I don't live there no more but I have that address as a mailing address and he is returning my mail. Causing animosity between me and the new owners because it shows that on informal mail that it is coming but it isn't showing that the mailman is not going to want to give it so I've been waiting over a month for mail that has been on informed delivery that my postal carrier just isn't putting it in the mailbox

As a Retired Rural Carrier, I know if you put in a change or forwarding of address, the automated system PULLS ALL MAIL WITH THAT NAME out of the system on it's own! Carrier has no control over it. Best way to correct is to fill out a cancel or change order for correct address you want mail delivered to. You either have all mail sent to one address or not. Must use one address!

Why in the world would your mail STILL be addressed to a place that you do not live at ?? You have the responsibility of changing your address to YOUR mailers. 2 words= Identity theft. This is WHY your mail needs to be delivered to where you currently live. First class, 2nd class, and mail that sender has paid for "address correction" are the only types mail forwarded. No 3 rd class, bulk business mail, or "current" will be forwarded, UNLESS the sender has paid for "address correction". I am wondering why the new owners want your mail to be delivered to your old address and why you do not want your mail delivered where you live.

Most of the times the informed delivery is correct with how many attachments are in email, secured before viewing who the sender is by photo. Sometimes though there ends up being more then what I get. There have been important states apartment letters that are not accounted for in mentioned even in count. I do not have complete trust in the post office & carriers now because we do not always have a regular person we can get to know. Informed delivery also no matter what I have done still delivers other people's mail in my informed delivery obviously not my name & in my mailbox extremely aggrevating! One regular carrier even wrote my last name on a sticky label placing it on the inside when the boxes are all opened seen clearly is constantly ignored now I never see him......
