The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I have a PO Box, but go less frequently these days. Can I drop-off mail in the US mailboxes throughout the community? Are carriers still picking up mail from these boxes?

I made 2 face masks for my daughter and her bf. they live less than 4 hours away. We both live in New Yrok I thought it odd the package was mailed to washington dc and now it's in North Carolina. Is that usual during covid or did my package get sent to the wrong state? I mean the receipt says my daughter's town and zip- nowhere near nc

Please know how much the mail service is appreciated, especially in these challenging times. It is such a comfort to be able to mail birthday cards, sympathy cards, letters, receive packages - we are so very grateful to all postal employees, especially the mail carriers, for allowing us to stay connected!!

It sure is appreciated! But when they send something way off track and says it's lost even though the tracking says where it is makes me mad as hell! It's suppose to go from new york to new york and it's in north carolina. that's a big pain in the butt

Should not mail carriers be required to wear masks and gloves when delivering mail to an apartment complex? If so, and I hope so!, to whom to I address my concern?

    Apr 24, 2020
  • anon

USPS does not require the letter carrier to wear a mask inside the facility and on the street . USPS is putting their employees and postal customers at risk . For safety and health of everyone it is imperative to wear a facial mask to help slow the spread of the virus I don't know why they get away without following state in government law.

I'm in mivhigan. 've noticed packages are going to other sorting facilities than they normally do, bypassing the alan park facility entirely, some even seem to bouce back and forth between some facilities. A package sent to me from 60 miles away was sent to georgia, then to las vegas, then "in transit" limbo for 10 days, then indianna for 4 days, then magically arrived.

I have now had 3 packages coming from the Pittsburgh Pa sort facility to Jersey City, NJ sort facility never to be heard from again. All were "Media Mail" packages. All arrived from Pittsburgh within 24 hours and updated with the usual "In transit" update every 24 hours for 4 consecutive days. They then stop updating and have never been received. it's been a month since they were shipped. These packages normally arrive in 3-5 days. I understand delays during the pandemic. To me a delay would be 7 to 10 days late. Non delivery is another issue and sellers still pay a fee for media mail delivery. The Post Office is still obligated to deliver these packages and they are not. Plus what is the point of the USPS attaching a tracking # to every package if they can't be tracked and located. Avoid using Media Mail and Package Services from the Post Office if you live in the NYC metro area since they will have to go through the the abomination known as the Jersey City NJ hell hole.

Same here, I had two Media Mail packages reach the Jersey City facility on 4/26 and then tracking stopped with no trace, I called USPS and they tell me the packages are lost.

Same problem, however it's too late for our business. We have over 500 packages (many media mail- we're a bookshop in NJ) which are sitting in Jersey City for weeks now. I'm refunding customers like crazy to save our online reputation. It's so unfortunate- barely scraping by during this closure and the USPS is going to drive us straight into the ground. Now I'm upgrading as much as possible to priority mail- even considered shipping every 3 days and driving to another state to drop off the packages, but they might end up in the wasteland of Jersey City anyway. Such an epic failure of USPS.

I sent a Priority Mail Envelope on Friday April 17 to Farmington Hills, Michigan and was told it would be there on Monday, Well it's not. Tracking says it is moving to the next facility and has said that since the 18th. I have contacted USPS a couple times only to be told the same information. It would not bother me except this is tax information that I can't get back, Ugh..Any help would be appreciated!!

Anybody else's packages showing up ripped open? Anything big that's been delivered to my door has been forcefully opened just enough to see what's inside. It can't be the neighbors, because im home most days and have the package in my hand before the truck even leaves the street. I can't buy these items in store because of COVID 19, and I can't buy them online, because of untrustworthy employees..

I've noticed that sometimes if the box is large or heavy, the boxes can come very ripped or busted because of how the boxes are handled. (mostly with Fed ex).

Unfortunately there are questionable people in every aspects no matter where they work. I have been a mail carrier for over 30 years and I have had new customers move onto my route and receive something ripped and automatically suspect me. I get very insulted most of us are extremely trustworthy we get paid decent and have benefits it's not worth our job to take something or look at something such as ripping open your packages , it's just not worth it! I think you just might be a little paranoid and it might show your true Outlook of people. Or as other people you might be a little confused and don't understand the difference between UPS FedEx DHL Amazon do you realize we receive packages as a third party from all those companies and in turn they delay your package and then charge you the customer more and then send it through us maybe it was received from them ripped open before it was even transferred to us!! Who's ripping who off now by charging you more and paying less?

I live in Bayonne, NJ and order from a bakery in Jersey City, NJ. We live about 20 minutes away from the store but since they are not receiving customers I did an online order. My question is why did my package after it was pick up/mailed out in Jersey City, NJ it went all the way to Springfield MA Distribution Center. Why didn't it just go to the Newark, New Jersey Distribution Center which just a town over from Bayonne, New Jersey. It makes no sense. This happen to another package that I had been waiting for. It was mailed from, I think, Monclair, New Jersey and went to Springfield MA Distribution Center. It took almost 2 weeks to arrive. So my packages go all the way to another state to come back to New Jersey. Can someone explain this to me.

I work in a retirement community (apartments) for seniors. Our letter carrier refuses to wear a mask inside our building to put the mail in the communal mailbox area. We are trying to protect the most AT RISK people and why he will not wear a mask is beyond incredulous! Could you please make it mandatory for carriers to wear masks in common areas?

I sent a package from Manassas, VA to Monroe, MI on 4/6/20. It only took four days for the package (a large yellow envelope) to arrive at the Detroit Distribution Center on 4/10/20/. The last tracking notification on 4/14/20 said it was "In transit to next facility", where it's been for the last 10 days!! How is it the package get from VA to MI in 4 days, but cant get from Detroit to Monroe in under 10? Please advise! My package contained about 8 procedure masks for a relative with chronic illness. Those masks need to get to him, please advise asap. Thank you,

Hello, I mailed several bills on 4/10/2020. All those sent within Hawaii was received by the companies they were mailed to except one that was sent to L.A. I called the mortgage company and they said they see that the mail was tracked as being en route on 4/16 but they haven’t received anything yet! Is there a delay of mail on California?

I've not seen any updates via USPS tracking for my priority mail package update since April 14th 2020. It's only showing "in transit". The package was mailed April 8th 2020 from Indiana, supposed to go to Michigan. Is this a normal delay for a Priority Mail package? I've had other items shipped later, have already arrived much earlier using USPS, and UPS ground (all arrived within one week of their shipping date). I've contacted USPS via the USPS web site, it only got me a return phone call stating to just watch the USPS tracking for updates. How can this be? No tracking updates since April 14th, today now being April 22nd? While I can sympathize during this Corona pandemic, it's not proper to not keep the tracking updated, nor to experience this delay. Especially since I have already experienced good delivery from UPS ground in 1/3 the time, and also another USPS package delivery within a weeks time. If USPS cannot get me more details on where my package is expect a now 8 day stagnant tracking status of "in transit", then stop accepting packages to deliver. This is not a proper method to inform it's customers, USPS tracking and generic response from it's representatives about these long delays. I'd rather choose UPS ground and get whatever it is I'm purchasing in a seemingly timely manor.

Having the same issue. My Priority Mail parcel departed Indianapolis for Southeast Michigan on the 18th and has been stuck "In Transit" for what is a week now. I've recently shipped several items with USPS to other states and they're all arriving within a few days. UPS and FedEx packages shipped much later have all already arrived as well. Contacting USPS through the website just gets you the standard blah blah... Covid pandemic... blah blah... we're having delays response. What's going on between Indianapolis and Detroit?

    Apr 25, 2020

Same issue here. It appears the Detroit distribution center is a black hole where packages just disappear. I'm expecting a Priority Mail package that was mailed from Flint MI to my house in Kansas City. The package arrived at the Detroit Distribution Center on 4/16. No updates until 4/20 when it changed to the generic "In transit to the next facility"... but there was never a status showing that it actually departed the Detroit Distribution Center. By 4/22 the status had not changed, so I contacted USPS to do a package search. They called me back a few hours later and told me that because of COVID-19 several centers have closed, so it's taking longer to route packages, but not to worry, it moving. Well now it's 4/24 and the status has still not changed.. last update was on 4/20 of "In transit to next facility". I'm beginning to think that status should actually be "Just sitting in the warehouse until somebody decides to put it on a truck". This is a disgrace. I get that things are gonna be delayed due to COVID, but no movement for 9 days on a Priority Status package is unacceptable.

No just Detroit! Sacramento distribution center also black hole! Packages hit get intake scan and gone! Will we ever get our packages? Who knows. And don't forget they can take up to 49 days to be delivered and then at that point you will get an email that says sorry we could not locate your package hope this does not cause any inconvenience.

Same here priority 3 day package was sent from Maryland to NYC not very far right? On the 14th it left MD on the 19 it has entered the limbo state of "in transit to next facility". Makes me think either these packages are sitting in a pile and everyone is ignoring them, or are in a truck going on a cross country tour. Its extremely unnerving for me because this is a non replaceable item I ordered 12 months ago, and it's a rather large box. I can't get back even with the insurance from USPS if it turns up its lost or damaged beyond repair. I feel like I can't Trust USPS with precious packages anymore. (Not the first time they lost something of mine) I just hope it was not stolen.

Am having the exact same problem. Sent a large yellow envelope from Virginia to Monroe, MI, only took 4 days to get to Mi where it's been stuck "In transit to the next facility" (Detroit Distribution Center) since 4/14/20. I sent about 8 face masks to a relative with chronic disease who desperately needs them. I sent 3 envelopes with the same contents on the same day 4/6/2020 to PA, OH and MI. PA and OH received theirs within 8 days. The one to MI seems to be "lost in transit", and of course, to the person who needs it most. VERY Disappointed.

I sent a package from South Carolina to be delivered to Pennsylvania for certified mail. Tracking states it was delivered, Called post master (manager) in PA. tells me because of Covid-19 they are not allowing signatures, was scanned and left with the regular mail. Post master stated they shouldn't allowed me to purchase certified mail. The post office is Federal so why isn't all requirements being done across the whole USPS this isn't a state by state. Now package has been scanned as delivered no where to be found. Wow.

I have sent two parcels through Royal mail international and have received two tracking numbers. The parcels arrived and were scanned in at O hare Chicago on April 11th. I paid the more expensive shipping so that these parcels would arrive to me in 5 days. Sadly when I track the parcels through USPS they still appear to be stuck at Chicago. Could someone inform me if there is a big logistics issue at Chicago or whether I should be receiving my parcels shortly. if someone emails me I can provide the tracking numbers. Does the COVID pandemic excuse the USO? Or manners? I received two very rude comments from either new or temporary carrier saying they were not going to deliver packages to my door every day. That I would have to catch them at the mailbox if I wanted my packages or drive to the P. O. in another city to get my packages. I wasn't aware a delivery person could just choose to not deliver packages. Not even make attempts. Oh, and say that they won't allow for scheduling re-delivery!?! Under "stay home-stay safe" it is counterintuitive to require me to go to a crowded post office when the mailman could easily just do his job and deliver my packages!

I think COVID-19 is a created excuse for many in certain Federal spaces to not work or to avoid important mail. For all we know it is the Federal Government that release the virus to eliminate lazy workers that sit in Federal spaces and that have enforced policies that have no legal binding.

I just want to thank the USPS and its employees for doing a great job. I sell on Ebay and while I have choices as to which carrier I use, I will always be a loyal customer. In regard to Covid-19, I have heard from at least 24 customers who claim their tracking never showed as much of my delivering their packages to the USPS. My local Postmaster confirmed something from the news that the local New Jersey sorting facility where all outbound NYC area media mail packages go through had a Covid-19 incident. While 1-2 customers are now indicating delivery was made, what should I expect regarding the other 2-+ lost shipments. Were they destroyed? One customer in Connecticut shared with me that tracking showed his package was routed to Jacksonville FL. Awaiting a reply that is more than a form letter. Thanks
