The U.S. Postal Service has a wide spectrum of customers, from businesses and organizations to every household in the United States. Balancing the needs of these customers is no small task, yet satisfying them is essential to the Postal Service’s success. With that in mind, the Postal Service has made improving the customer experience one of the key elements of its strategic goals.

For consumers, customer service ranges from wait time in lobbies to letter carrier service to interaction with postal staff at a Post Office. Business mailers might focus on different aspects of customer service, such as delivery performance, interaction with acceptance personnel, or how quickly a service problem is resolved. What customers might not realize is that the Postal Service relies on a number of systems to support customer services and to improve a user’s overall experience. These systems can also reduce manual inputs, increase efficiency, and streamline operations. Often seamless to customers, these sophisticated systems have helped to make mail a reliable method of communications. However, when they go down or work inefficiently, it can lead to negative customer experiences, which might impact future business opportunities.

For example, business mailers use the Facility Access and Shipment Tracking (FAST) system to set up appointments to enter mail at postal facilities. FAST collects and monitors appointment data for the facilities, which improves the efficiency and effectiveness of appointment creation for both customers and Postal Service management. Business mailers also rely on PostalOne!, a suite of web-based business capabilities that allows mailers to integrate their mail planning and production processes with those of the Postal Service for “seamless” and efficient mail induction.

Consumers are more likely to use the Postal Service’s website usps.com to research or access services, such as purchasing postage, looking up ZIP Codes, printing shipping labels, or submitting a change of address form. And although retail customers might not realize it, their customer experience hinges on the Point of Service (POS) Retail system, which automates retail transactions at post offices and other retail counters.

When these systems are working properly, customers may not think about them at all. But if these systems experience an outage, the customer experience could be entirely different. Our office is reviewing these systems as part of an audit and would like to hear from customers. What have your experiences been when using FAST, PostalOne!, usps.com and other types of services? Are they consistently available? Or have you experienced system availability problems?

For business customers, has system availability or slow response times affected your own internal processes, such as transportation schedules or other mail entry issues? For retail customers, have you had problems accessing information or services on usps.com? We also welcome comments of Postal Service employees on their experiences with these applications and the services they support.

While the scope of our audit is limited to systems review, we welcome input on the entire customer experience.

Last year I was informed in writing by USPS they do not use call centers outside the United States. Today I was forced to explain locations without physical addresses like campgrounds to two women in the Philippines. I put in a request for a return call which came, but was immediately disconnected. So now my package will be returned to the shipper and I wi;;,lose money because I am refused an opportunity to speak to someone in my own country regarding a United States government issue. This is beyond ridiculous. I will be posting this information on all social media sites I can and will not use USPS services in the future if I can avoid it.

The Ashford Park Past Office on Dresden is an absolute disaster. I would like to know who is in charge there. My packages have been lost for 8 days. I have spent over 3 hours at the post office and 7 hours and 41 minutes on hold and yet I have no information and no packages. The day and evening supervisors do not communicate with each other and neither has found my mail nor gotten an answer form the carrier. In the meantime I continue to get package slips for mail they cannot locate! Each time I drive down there only to get blank stares and no answers. e entire pl;ace is a disaster. In the meantime my hail has been mis-delivered to my neighbors and several people are missing packages along with me. The carriers are stealing mail and not showing up to work. The clerks are losing mail and sorting it improperly. An NO ONE is accepting responsibility. The supervisors are pointing at each other. Where does it stop? Who is accountable? This is not an isolated incident. whenever I get a slip in my mailbox I dread the next day. This has been a huge problem over HALF the time. This year alone I have had 5 missing deliverers out of 9. This is not only unacceptable but indicative of a larger problem at this particular post office. The carriers are not putting the mail where it supposed to be when they're done with their route. In addition I have witnessed the mail man driving off without even attempting to deliver the package to my door but leaving the slip in the mailbox . I am angry and frustrated and more importantly not getting my mail but I am a loss at what to do . For two full days this past week I've spent on hold talking to people who seem to be unable to find out anything .

Two separate change of address requests didn't seem to work, so I filed out a request to follow up on them on line and received no response. Now I've been on hold for over an hour to try to find out where our mail is. We are overseas working for the USG and the mobile company charges $0.30 a minute... would just like to speak to someone as all the other automated avenues seem not to be working.

The rudest most careless staff I've ever encountered. You can reschedule a redelivery ten times and they'll NEVER COME and then they don't answer the phone when you call so you're forced to miss work to pick up your packages because they're not providing the service they're paid for.

I have lived in Smithfield, Pa for 30 years. I am a small town lady from Greenfield, NY. When I was a child, my mail was delivered from the Porters Corners Post office and later it was delivered by Warren Hurd from the Greenfield Post office. I have found the Smithfield Postmaster Denise (sorry I just realized I don't know her last name) to be helpful, efficient, pleasant and part of my universe in the same small town way I have been used to. The postal office person know to me as Marge, is also most helpful, pleasant and efficient. I look forward to seeing one or both of them on a day I have business with the usps. I wish you were able to contract with my online companies . This is the only service I trust. Please push it and negotiate those contracts.

Do you guys even have a routing system or do you just wing it. My package was shipped from a location 3 hours away from my home by a corporate business. I paid a little extra so the package would get here in a few business days thinking that I was safely making sure it would arrive in 3 days ( the maximum for the amount I paid.) I ordered it Thursday and still have not received it by the following Tuesday. 3 hours away... 5 days later still can not arrive even when you pay a premium for there "faster" shipping options. Why is this government program still in operation. It loses money, the reviews for the USPS are almost always bad, and there are other entrepreneur's who would be able to fill the spot. Some exist already such as FedEx and UPS. Leave the passports to the DMV and only have government issued mail go through usps. This would allow liquidation of many unnecessarily large buildings operated by the USPS. In a government that has trillions in debt this seems like a sensible solution. Stop wasting tax payers dollars on an inferior service that was never the governments issue to begin with.

Dear Inspector General: I wanted to write to tell you of the outstanding service provided for me by Lisa in the Lexington, Massachusetts office. She was kind, thorough, and personable and made sure a very important package was delivered yesterday. This was a tracked and insured package sent from Pawleys Island, SC a week ago. Because of the delay and an unusual route it took, USPS opened a case on this. I got a personal phone call from Lisa about the receipt of the package in her office, and when I returned her call, she answered right away and called the person out on delivery to make sure he had the package, and it was on its way to my future son in law. The package contained a very valuable emerald and diamond bracelet ..whose stones will be incorporated into my daughter's engagement ring. It holds great sentimental value as well. Lisa is an outstanding employee and could not have been more helpful and reassuring. Please thank her for me and recognize her in an appropriate way. With great appreciation, Lynn Q. Smith

Postal service has gone from bad to worse, now I can't call directly to the post office and find out the status of anything anymore, and if I could call them the phone numbers are intentionally privatized. Theres only one phone number and the hold times are from 45 minutes to an hour??? what is this 1983?

I had recently called the USPS office in Minneapolis on 1st street and talked with Sherril Lamont about some missing mail that I believe was being held up due to lack of postage. Sherril was great to work with and she ended up finding the mail in her facility and offered to take the extra steps to get the mail out the door! Appreciate employees that are very courteous and take the xtra steps to help correct the consumers mistakes! Thanks Sherril!

Far too difficult to speak with someone on the customer service line. Called the 1-800-ASK-UPS line and the automated representative said that wait time was one hour. I am still on hold waiting after 3 hours and 15 minutes. I will avoid the USPS as much as possible going forward. This company makes Comcast look good.

"Josephine" at the San Jose post office gets a gold star in my book. I sell on Amazon and had a buyer who claimed his purchase was not delivered. Josephine discovered that he was making the same claim about packages from two other Amazon sellers and was even using another name. In addition she remembered him presenting his ID when he picked up my package. I really appreciate her efforts on my behalf..

The worst ever service is USPS. Dear friends don't try to parcel your valuable things with USPS. The carriers are going crazy about the packages. I lost my package on 19th of july and still the case is running. You cannot expect a legitimate explanation from the carrier when the package is lost.USPS employees are all one family. They do not respect their customers.

I have been waiting on a package in limbo in Denver. Called my local post office to get additional information and was told the USPS tracking on their website is not necessarily accurate but computer generated. Moreover, the USPS employee told me "my package either fell off the conveyor belt (worst case) or it should have arrived already (best case)." Not positive what to do now except hope my package arrives. First time posting a comment but several years of poor service from USPS. Our hard earned tax dollars wisely spent. Lastly, do not anticipate any future assistance from any USPS employee because simply I don't think they care that much.

I would really appreciate it if your employees at the Pine Lake, GA (30072) post office would stop leaving nasty little notes on mail in my PO Box that has been addressed to my physical address. There are no mailboxes in my town so we have to use the boxes. There are companies that have my physical address like CAR INSURANCE and CABLE INSTALLERS and if they are going to address mail to my physical address after I've told them my mailing address I have ZERO CONTROL OVER THAT so kindly tell your employees to stop leaving their snippy little comments off my mail. I'm not the only resident of my town that is sick of it.

I filed an insurance claim for a box that was missing contents. My first two attempts were denied in less than 24 hours. My third attempt has been under review for 5 weeks. My local Post Office can do nothing. I can only seem to get automated responses form USPS that tell me what I already know, it is under review. I have already gone beyond the time limit for getting the site I bought the item from to reimburse me if USPS does not accept my claim. Box was stamped at Harrisburg "received unsealed". That was not noted on tracking information. This has gone on way too long and needs to be resolved.

I am a customer service representative for a company in Iowa. I will on occasion need to call the Post Office to verify if an address is viable when our address checker says an address is not valid. I recently had an experience with "John" at the Hayesville NC post office. I introduced myself and started with I needed to verify an address. He immediately started telling me about eh privacy act and how he could not give out information. I tried to explain I did not want an address and he kept talking over me. He was extremely rude and didn't try to listen to what I had to say. He handed me over to the postmaster and told her I was trying to get an address. I told her I was not wanting an address but needed to know if the address was valid and if they received home delivery. She was apologetic and I appreciate that. She did, however, try to make excuses for him by saying he had a long line of customers. Doesn't matter. This is one reason why the postal service has a bad reputation for customer service.

"Your refund check was mailed to you and returned by the post office as undeliverable. To ensure delivery of your refund, we need your current address". Prior to this, I received 4 letters from the IRS. I have $12.00 in my checking account. Without my tax refund, I will be homeless. I filed my taxes 4/14/17. The post office is TOTALLY responsible !!!!!

My packages are not being delivered. We had no problem getting package deliveries until our delivery person retired. The new postal delivery person will not deliver a package that does not fit in our mailbox. We've inquired with the main post office management. They said it is due to the fact that it is a private road with no turn around. There are approximately 15 people that have mail boxes at the main road, but have houses down a private black topped, wide, maintained road. We said they could turn around in our driveway, which is newly paved, as the other delivery companies do. UPS, Fed Ex deliver right to my door. The management said that the road is not a two way road. Our packages have to be picked up at the main post office which is about 10 miles round trip. I am very frustrated with the fact that we are paying federal taxes and postage fees for package that won't be delivered. If I have options of choosing delivery options, I will be choosing another delivery method. USPS is overpaid and they underserve.

Man I feel your pain. We lost our regular carrier a few years ago and ever since we don't get our packages with any sense of regularity. They've gone so far as to leave "undeliverable" notices when I have a fully paved multi-car parking lot that has someone home 24/7 as we are a Care Facility. They've left my patients medications on the ground as they are too lazy to drive into the lot. I have spoken with the Postmaster at the Tigard office on no less than three occasions all to no avail. It took them six months to replace a plate glass window that some elderly woman drove through at the downtown office so what does this say about their overall outlook? In short I hope that the Post Office gets what's coming to it, disenfranchisement and dissolution at the hands of Jeff Bezos and Co. and nice little robots who don't smoke in the trucks and are too lazy to want to keep their jobs. It's happening and it's happening now. I deliberately look for WHO the shipper is nowadays and if it's USPS I tend to avoid purchasing as half the time I don't get what I ordered or I have to go stand for a half an hour at the Post Office and finish their job for them while admiring the plywood window.

A couple of weeks back, they did not deliver mail on Friday or Saturday, and on Monday, we finally got mail at 8:30 at night. Yesterday, I am tracking a package, message was-package was left inside the residence's mailbox at 7;08. I check my box at 7;20, NO PACKAGE. i HAVE NO IDEA WHERE MY PACKAGE IS. TRIED CALLING THESE IDIOTS, NO ONE IS ANSWERING THE PHONE. THESE EVENTS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN.

We have rented a box at the Alvin, Texas post office for the past 17 years. We have not had any problems until May of 2017. Since that time, some person or persons sorting packages at that office, lost my package not once, but twice in this time period of a little over two months!!!!! On top of that I have received the wrong package in my box once during that same time period. I returned the misdirected package, but sadly my two packages were never returned. The lady at the counter gave me a 1800 number to call to complain, but had nothing else to say to me! Needless to say the next time I order something I will have it sent to my friend's house...she knows her postal carrier and he is very careful! The post office loses so much money every year...I think it is time for private companies to bid on providing that service.

Hi, I'm very lucky to have an excellent post office at 98109. My reason for commenting is the hour+ wait time when I have called USPS. That's an unacceptable wait time. I'm able to walk to my local post office and ask a question. But what about those who are unable to leave home. Five minutes seems like an eternity. And drop the bloody hold music; it's enough to induce a seizure.

I have documentation from the UPS in writing that my Certified Mail could not be found. I was instructed to file Form 3533 with the Post Office that I paid for the Certified Mail. The supervisor on duty this week informed the co-worker that they do not have money to pay this and that I should get it from the General UPS. I do not want to go back and forth. The form that they gave me at the Post Office clearly marks one of the items that it is form Certified Mail to be reimbursed, bu the local Post Office REFUSED TO TAKE IT. I am filing a COMPLAINT.

63089 service is horrible. There are 8 people living at my address so there is someone there nearly all of the time. I have been mowing my yard, seen the mail truck go by, only to find a memo in my box that a package was attempted to be delivered but no one was at home. I pay for 2 day shipping but it always turns into 3-4 if it is transferred to the USPS. I received noticed that a package was at the POST office for pickup but when I go there, it was out for delivery. Basically, if they have to get out of their vehicle, it isn't delivered for several days.

I received a notification from USPS that a package was delivered, went out side to look and there was nothing however there is another package from the same company for another lady in our complex. I tried to call the post office in Stuart Fl and have to wait on the phone for over an hour to talk to a human, the automated system is horrible. I just wanted them to know that I did not receive my package. To waste an hour of my life waiting to talk to a human is horrible. The USPS should get their act together and pa attention to their customers, or soon there will not be a usps.

I had a very positive experience at the Burton, MI south post office recently. I had applied for a PO box online and after finishing everything I was told to go to the post office and complete my activation. Upon arriving there I was informed that I didn't have the correct paperwork and that the employees there had no training with dealing with the USPS website or how to retrieve my information. After some frustration Mary, I am guessing she is the manager, came up front and helped me. She was kind, patient, and explained everything to me. She helped me reapply in the store and told me how to cancel my online request to make the process happen that day. I wish that all postal workers were as intelligent and kind as Mary was. She should be rewarded for an excellent job in a tense situation.

Our new postal carrier has a real attitude problem. The door to my mailbox is left wide open at least once a week. When I nicely asked her to make sure she closes the door completely she quickly replied with asking me if the door was hard to close, which it isn't. Shortly after it was wide open again, with my mail visible for everyone to see. I think this could encourage mail and identity theft. The next interaction I had with her was when she was putting mail in my box. I showed her that the door was not hard to close. She responded with saying that she shouldn't even deliver my mail on Mondays because of my trash cans being in the way. My trash cans are at least 10 feet away from the mailbox. She then handed me my mail and told me "there you go young man". I'm 52 years old and look older than my age. This was without a doubt a childish jab or a cheap shot. These two incidents may not seem like much, but I am sensing some hostility and attitude.

No wonder our post office loses millions of dollars every year. As a government entity I guess they just don't care. I went to the post office at 10 till 2, they close at 2 and I realize that. there were only two people working so I had to wait, there were others that came in after 2 p.m. who ran line behind me. When I got to the representative she brushed me aside so she can wait on the other people behind me. The office is on Sunbeam Road in Jacksonville Florida and usually I have good experiences in that office, but she looked like she couldn't care less. It was important to me to get this done today but because of her it will cost me now so I'm going to cause as much trouble for her as I possibly can. I got to put up with people snotty attitudes all day at work the last thing I'm going to do is go to something that's government based and have somebody treat me like trash!

I am very unhappy with the Centreville, VA post office’s delivery service and customer service. I’ve had 4 packages ruined recently. The delivery person broke a rare collectable children’s picture book in half and stuffed it in my mailbox. I’ve had 3 packages on 3 different occasions containing books left out in puddles in the rain ruining the books. I made three trips to the office to inform them but was told that as long as it is not raining at the moment a package is delivered, the delivery person will not put the package in a plastic bag even if the weather forecast is for rain or thunderstorms later that day. The delivery person could have placed the packages in the door rather than leave them out in the open.

I don't know why the post office has been getting worse over the past few years. Why we keep paying more money for packages to get lost or damaged, and why the overall service is garbage. I recently sent a package in a flat rate envelope. it is suppose to be if it fits it ships. Well apparently that is not true. Because the box is oddly shaped they charge the receiver a up charge on it. The post office is a horribly run company that keeps jacking up the prices because of reasons. The rate of cheapest tracking on a package has gone from $1.45 to $2.61 in a little over five years, while the server still gets worse. All the flat rates keep going up and yet the service is horrible. Why is there a different price between 3-15 oz packages. is that to heavy for carriers to move. It must be since it cost $2 extra for it. If you are charging a premium rate for a service, it should be better then an overpriced service that is terrible. Lower the prices and have workers who don't try and jam everything into a filled spot, or put heavy packages on small/light ones and maybe you wouldn't have the horrendous reputation you do.

USPS seems to go out of its way to ignore average residential customers. I wrote directly to the Inspector General over a month ago and have never gotten a response. This reflects the same situation I have at our local post office with one exception, the so-called customer service supervisor tells us to our face that no matter how much we complain it will not change anything. So my local customer service supervisor knows that nothing will happen to him if he treats customers poorly and tells customers that their complaints are meaningless. What a sad excuse for a so called postal service.

In the past two weeks I've had 3 packages they say could not be delivered, box full. No notice left for further instructions. With out this I can't even send someone to get my packages. Even with this my agent had a hard time with post offic at 37211-1411. 1st time he took a signed card with him they said some thing about ids needed. Ok that one can be on me. Next time he had state and federal ids with him mine and his. Then they told him not at this post office. So waited a couple days agent went back this time the clerk went to the rear got a package then someone told the clerk that he must have a power of attorney. I'm so glad he went for me several times because I have his word not just mine and a few more.

Received a notice that package could not be delivered without signature. Notice said I could request redelivery without signature by filling out the requested information on the notice, signing the notice, and leaving the notice for mailperson - which I did. Next day, notice had been taken (presumably by mailperson because there's no other foot traffic where I live), so I expected the package to be delivered the following day. No dice. No package, no new notice, nothing. So I logged onto the site using the tracking number and found the last update was the initial delivery attempt which notes my package will be sent back to China in 4 days if undelivered. I tried scheduling a redelivery through the site... nothing. I tried calling the Hayward post office and found no answer for over 5 hours. I am now on hold with the 1-800 USPS number. The wait time is "GREATER THAN 1 HOUR." This is crazy. I will no longer order anything that sends via USPS. Hope this government system is fixed or eliminated asap. At least you hired someone who could pick decent on-hold music.

Your website was unable to process the $1.00 payment for my mail forwarding request due to an "Incorrect address". The address I provided is 100% correct and I tried it multiple times and got rejected every time. I called customer service for help was spent over 20 minutes trying to get through the menu options to actually reach someone, an then was told it would be over 1 hour before an agent could take my call. It is never a positive or efficient experience dealing with USPS. I don't understand why USPS can't get it's act together one of these days. Nobody wants to spend over an hour on hold just to complete a mail forwarding, because your website has a glitch!

Customer service so far for me has been a bad experience. They are rude and nasty and have an attitude. One customer service rep refused to do anything to help me with a package. I called back and got someone willing to help me. They talk to you with complete disrespect.
