The U.S. Postal Service has a wide spectrum of customers, from businesses and organizations to every household in the United States. Balancing the needs of these customers is no small task, yet satisfying them is essential to the Postal Service’s success. With that in mind, the Postal Service has made improving the customer experience one of the key elements of its strategic goals.

For consumers, customer service ranges from wait time in lobbies to letter carrier service to interaction with postal staff at a Post Office. Business mailers might focus on different aspects of customer service, such as delivery performance, interaction with acceptance personnel, or how quickly a service problem is resolved. What customers might not realize is that the Postal Service relies on a number of systems to support customer services and to improve a user’s overall experience. These systems can also reduce manual inputs, increase efficiency, and streamline operations. Often seamless to customers, these sophisticated systems have helped to make mail a reliable method of communications. However, when they go down or work inefficiently, it can lead to negative customer experiences, which might impact future business opportunities.

For example, business mailers use the Facility Access and Shipment Tracking (FAST) system to set up appointments to enter mail at postal facilities. FAST collects and monitors appointment data for the facilities, which improves the efficiency and effectiveness of appointment creation for both customers and Postal Service management. Business mailers also rely on PostalOne!, a suite of web-based business capabilities that allows mailers to integrate their mail planning and production processes with those of the Postal Service for “seamless” and efficient mail induction.

Consumers are more likely to use the Postal Service’s website usps.com to research or access services, such as purchasing postage, looking up ZIP Codes, printing shipping labels, or submitting a change of address form. And although retail customers might not realize it, their customer experience hinges on the Point of Service (POS) Retail system, which automates retail transactions at post offices and other retail counters.

When these systems are working properly, customers may not think about them at all. But if these systems experience an outage, the customer experience could be entirely different. Our office is reviewing these systems as part of an audit and would like to hear from customers. What have your experiences been when using FAST, PostalOne!, usps.com and other types of services? Are they consistently available? Or have you experienced system availability problems?

For business customers, has system availability or slow response times affected your own internal processes, such as transportation schedules or other mail entry issues? For retail customers, have you had problems accessing information or services on usps.com? We also welcome comments of Postal Service employees on their experiences with these applications and the services they support.

While the scope of our audit is limited to systems review, we welcome input on the entire customer experience.

In the last few years, we have experienced a gradual but steady decline in the US Postal Delivery system. We feel we can no longer trust the USPS with reliably delivering our letters or packages. On an average we lose either an invoice or payment about 4 times per year. In addition, packages tracked online and specified to be delivered, actually show up in our mailbox about 3-4 days later. This causes us to notify the sender that their package has been lost, causes them to resend, and then we have to deal with returning the additional packages. We feel the system is broken at the Danville, PA 17821 Post Office.

Once again the usps has NOT let me down! The content of the package was busted, broke, smashed into a dozen pieces!!! If I can't send a simple coffee mug (which I paid $19 for), wrapped in approximately 24" of bubble wrap and then placed in a box where additional packing material was used; why should I bother to use your services? The package was sent priority mail! Where's my refund?

There is no way to actually make a reasonable insurance claim. The post office delivered an insured package to my house while my mail was on hold, and of course it got stolen. There is no way for me to include this information when making an insurance claim on the package. The actual post office was no help at all, and when trying to talk to customer service, I am faced with hold times of > 1 hr.

A friend sent me a Christmas card which was returned to them because there's "no such number". The number was very clearly written on the envelope along with the rest of the address. Meanwhile, I've had mail persistently delivered to my address that wasn't addressed to me. On a separate occasion I ordered an item that was marked by usps.com as having been delivered. The sender of the item informed me through eBay that the item was returned. AWFUL.

I would like to commend the post office in CIRCLE PINES MN 55014---- My company has several post office boxes as well as all services done thru the Circle Pines MN post office. My staff and I have been coming to this location for about 15 years daily, during all times of the day. We are amazed at the employees and their kindness and patience. Long ago we decided to do everything there since we had terrible experiences with rude staff at the BLAINE and FOREST LAKE post offices. Even during the holidays when lines are long, they are quick and the staff, particularly Mary, puts everyone at ease, thanking them for coming and apology for the wait. Any average individual can see the long line and we realize we are in it for the same reason, we want service from those that are kind and make a difference in our day. I realize I have been negligent in sending this praise often but wanted to be sure it was passed on. Like many other places staff seems to be decreased but we all appreciate the Circle Pines staff in their wise advise to the customers always done in an appreciative and helpful way. It would be great if they could be cloned and available to our staff in the other companies we work with. Sad to think we have to go to the post office to get our daily dose of cheer and appreciation! Needless to say, we all think they are the best!

I visited the Parkwater 99212-1277 Post Office on 1/2/2018 to mail a package. I was the only person in the business portion of the building rang the bell to summon assistance and was met by an angry, unpleasant man. I asked him the cost difference between mailing two packages and he pounded the computer screen with his finger (and nails) to get the costs and then walked away. I packaged my item, which may have taken about a minute, and had to summon him again from behind a cubicle wall with the bell. His demeanor changed when helping me with an actual transaction. I mention this because I frequently use this post office location and this clerk is routinely unpleasant when it comes to answering questions or providing any services that don't involve the exchange of cash.

A seller shipped a package to me on Jan. 3, 2017. For a week, the tracking number showed nothing. Today, tracking works, the package was scanned, telling me that the package as accepted at a USPS facility. Did the seller lie and actually just ship the package? No. He lives FOUR HOURS away from this USPS facility, the package was picked up at his place of business. This means that for a WEEK, my package just SAT in a USPS truck or facility somewhere. I tried to call USPS. Ha, ha, ha, ha, etc., USPS stands on its head to make this difficult. I tried using the online complaint form twice, once from work, once from home, and both times got an "error" message after sending. 21st century technology yielding 3rd world results. If the seller had tied my package to a dog and pointed it in the right direction, I swear I'd have it by now. The package, shipped a week ago and just scanned, will take (USPS tells me in a cheery auto-update) ANOTHER week to get to me. Unacceptable, and no - this has nothing to do with bad weather.

I was home all day, I watched the carrier stop and then take off. I was expecting a package which was not delivered - even though the tracking number says it was. Now I have been on hold for 2 hours waiting to report it to USPS. I was counting on that package today and needed the contents.

Happy New Year Everyone! Where to begin, One Christmas gift for grand is still floating around, despite having tracking numbers and such. One pkg. is out for redelivery and no further information is available. And you guys wonder why the Post Office is suffering hardships? Really, You can't be serious - the utter cavalier attitude throughout. Service is beyond atrocious, ten windows, three workers and one of those is retrieving packages. "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" now I understand why this is not an "official" motto. Disrespectful.

Brutal phone customer service. it takes multiple prompts to get in the queue to talk to a "live" person. However, wait time is over 1 hour. Fat chance I'll wait that long for package inquiry....this is horrible customer service; one for trying to deliver package to the wrong zip code; two for inability to allow a customer to get through.

I sent a package on 12/20/2017 2 day priority which never was informed of express to be insured. Needless to say the postal service made a human error and was sent to wrong hub which was first delay second delay was at sun city post office in fl. delivered to wron address thankfully the person it was delivered to was honest and took it to my mother. Totally unacceptable conduct of the postal service. Talked to quite a few people about this and will not get a refund of the postage I paid because first it was delivered but not by the USPS. The customer service people were very nice to me over the phone until they put me in contact with the consumer affairs office in Tampa fl. This woman has no customer service even hung up on me when I told her I would no longer do business with the USPS. I think the people you have working for you are overpaid people with no experience on ow to deal with people. The question I want answered is how I'm the one responsible for my package not being delivered to right address? I paid for a service that was not met! I should be given my money back for my service I paid for since the USPS did not deliver to the addressee.

On December 29 2017 , I had one of the worst customer service experience's at the Birmingham , Mi post office . First of all there were 15 people in line and two clerks at the counter and one woman asking people if they were there to pick up their mail that was on hold . It took a total of forty five minutes to get in and out of the line . The icing on the cake was the very rude young man behind the counter { his name is Jonathan and he needs some help in customer service relations } not only was he rude to me , but I got to observe him for 30 minutes while I stood in line and he was rude to everyone else that he waited on . This is the last visit I'll make to this post office .

Superb employees making a difference! I wish to acknowledge two staff at the Germantown post office in Maryland whom went over the top to help us get through a very difficult and upsetting day. A package that was sent with medication was delivered incorrectly but David and then Michael went out of their way to handle the situation in a professional, caring way even though it was close to closing time. They kept us updated on the findings and treated us respectfully. The package was located and no harm was done. I wish other professionals could of observed how well the situation was handled! Hats off to a job well done! Thank you for your kindness!

I've been filing multiple complaints regarding this problem and nothing yet has been resolve, so what else can I do. I've had multiple spine serguries and to lose my insurance because of usps not addressing my complaints, so what else can I do. Nothing right just choke on my own vomits. Thank you usps.

Our community has banks of mailboxes and Recently one of the outgoing boxes was left unlocked and ougoing mail was not secured. This is not the first time boxes have been left open. I tried for an hour to reach the Sun City Center, Fl post office and they just let the phone ring multiple times then pick it up and hang up. This is unacccepable service and a security issue that they refuse to answer the phone. I plan to write to Postmaster General. I finnaly called the Old Sun City post office and talked to Tom and he stated that the Sun City Center Post Office can be extremely difficult to get ahold of but that he would email their supervisor about the unlocked box.

USPS lost my order worth $400 USD. I received a piece of cardboard in the mail with a sticker on it stating my items were received at their facility with "Missing or damaged items". After FOUR months of trying to get a refund, spending 10+ times waiting on hold for (40min to 90 minutes) wait times.. Only to be thrown around, talked to with attitude and not one person caring it is like they are trying to indefinitely keep my winding through this process. I am almost tempted to just let it slide and never use usps again. I haven't even received responses to my emials.. Once I was told that they called me and that I said I changed my address (never happened), seemed like an excuse to transfer me to another bitch of a lady who still couldn't help me. I am just beyond blown away at the greedy disgusting unorganized company that is USPS. I never once could even imagine $400 could cause me so much stress. I feel like they stole from me.

I moved from Thompsonville, Michigan to Round Rock, Texas on 1 November 2017. When I moved into my new apartment there were over 150 mail items for eight other past residents of my apartment, stuffed in my mailbox, so much so that I struggled to get it all out. I took all the mail that wasn't mine to the local post office and asked them to make sure that only our mail is delivered to our box. They asked me to write my name on the card inside the box, which I did (this was around Nov 14). After three more trips to the post office with the same issue, I am tired of having to keep going through this. I even spoke to a mail carrier asking him not to deliver any mail that doesn't have my name or "Current Resident" on it. However, I found out that we are not on a regular carrier route so there are different carriers all the time. Having been a certified mail handler in Afghanistan, as a contractor for the military 2012 - 2013, I had to handle, sort, deliver, safe keep and return all mail to our group. Can I get an answer on how to handle this since even the Postmaster General here doesn't seem to care. Apparently, he has even tried to bring bulk mail to the Apartment Office and leave it for the Managers here to sort. That doesn't appear to be proper mail handling at all. Thank you for any help or response. David Garlinghouse

Commending a letter carrier staff member!! I want you to know you have an exceptional employee, Daniel Jean of Cooper Station, 93 4th Avenue, New York, NY 10003. A few months ago, we were missing a package. Mr. Jean was extremely courteous and friendly as he made every effort to personally trace the missing shipment. Since then, Mr. Jean could have easily put a little pink slip in our mailbox when a package didn’t fit but instead he delivers it to our door to make sure no other parcel ever goes missing again! Such professionalism is rare nowadays and therefore his commitment to great customer service is to be commended. Many thanks Daniel for going above and beyond! We appreciate you!

Well, you've ruined my child's Christmas. Things ordered weeks in advance wind up traveling all over the country. I still have 4 packages lost in the wind, with no real tracking, no one to really tell me anything. Just a lot of "passing the buck" down the line. That seems to be all you're able to do these days. You're entire upper management culture should be FIRED, and those responsible held responsible for their inability.

I am extremely frustrated as the last 4 months my mail doesn't get here until after 4 most the time after 5 and a couple times each week after 5:30 almost 6 at night. I don't expect it to be here before 4 but coming after dark and being this late bothers me. I'm not understanding why this is a big issue prior to the carriers that we've had recently almost always was here before 3 and I do expect when it snows there is an issue I don't have problem with that but this is all the time. my question is can't you keep employees if that's a problem then you need to figure it out as 5/6 at night getting my mail is not really acceptable. I'm sure this won't do anything but I thought I would say something

Last night 12/19/17 I went to the post office on 34th street and 9th in St Petersburg FL. I was looking for a if it fits it ships box. I usually get them in the lobby. But this post office was poorly stocked and there was none in the lobby. An employee came out of the back and into the lobby to give another employee a scanner it was just after 5pm at night. I asked the lady who was giving the scanner to the other employee if she could get me a medium size box. She promptly told me "Man we close at 5pm, its after 5 now." I was so shocked. I do not work for the post office but I also know it is not the customers job to make sure the lobby and other parts are stocked so we can pay for our shipping. We do how ever pay for her pay check. I turned to the young black girl who was working the we are closed now door, and she was the nicest person. I asked here where can I get one of the medium size shipping boxes. she went into the line and brought out 3! I could have hugged her for her kindness, or just doing her job as the white woman who was 5 minutes over her clock out time as not. I took the one box with me, and put the other 2 in the stand in the lobby so no one else has to deal with what I had to deal with. Thank you young woman who helped me. You are a God send. I am not even shipping this box yet, I just want to get it together for when I have it filled. I know it is Christmas and most people are busy, I get that. But to be rude is not what the holidays or any day is needed. If you hate your job so much leave it. There are others out there who will take it over for you and do it with a smile.

I have never been so infuriated with another customer service experience. I'd rather go through Comcast or speak with the DMV. Not only does their shipping fall short with two lost packages, but also their delivery time is the worst I've encountered. I've never had my patience worn this thin before. I needed to call these people and ask about my package. The automated system is also one of the worst things I've experienced.it does not recognize voices, and is not intuitive. They also hang up on you once you get through. I've been hung up on twice now. I am only another hold for 3 hours with their callback. I cannot believe that I am paying for their services.

I've tried to contact USPS customer service via phone, but they are not able to answer calls in a reasonable time, so they ask for a callback number. When they do call back, they prompt you to acknowledge that you are the person who requested the callback. Once a button is pressed to do so, you're once again put in an endless loop of hold time. Yesterday, I waiting for over thirty minutes on the callback and no one ever got on the line to help me. The website has not been functioning properly for at least two weeks. I normally would have no problem creating and printing mailing labels from my desktop. I cannot do that any more. The USPS payment web page gets stuck, hops when you enter the "continue" button, and never gives you the label, so you cannot ship. Despite my emails to the USPS "tech" section, no resolution and no real answers. I've never seen things like this with USPS. Thanks.

USPS is ruining the holiday. In the one week I've had a mail hold, they delivered a package to the door (on a Sunday, even) and left multiple notices for others. My neighborhood has high mail theft and I'm not home to intervene. Another sender says the package they sent is going to be returned because I'm not there to accept. What is so hard about holding my mail during a confirmed mail hold? The website doesn't even allow my to submit the issue and multiple attempts to call "customer service" have resulted to one hour wait times. Yeah, right.

I was told that it is “against federal law” to ship in wine boxes and was made to purchase over $20 of postal supplies as well as pack five boxes right there in the post office. Your website makes no mention of this law or even as a restriction. Also, usps contact number and email address give no opportunity to make contact with a person within a reasonable amount of time or simply gives an error message in lieu of contact. Shameful

I live in the scotsborough development. I've lived here 2 years. The post office off David Cox Road and the mail carriers are lacking in the customer service department. They were supposed to drop of a pkg from an associate site from Amazon and they took it to the post office instead. I called Amazon and finally got them to bring the package to my house. One of the boxes was smashed in. Thank goodness it didn't damage the contents. Of course it's not all of the post office staff and carriers but a pretty good percentage have attitudes, don't return phone calls or messages. They have been delivering the mail sometimes at 7 or 8 pm and even delivering on Sunday. Some days they don't even show up. There really needs to be an over haul of training and customer service!

USPS is a dying business. I am absolutely appalled that a company like this is associated with the United States. No other company in their right mind would treat customers this way. Their automatic system is the worst I have experienced in years. After requesting to speak with customer service, the automatic system hung up on me multiple times and was apparently unable to understand me even verbalizing the trigger words (note that I have NEVER had this issue before with an automated system. I make sure to enunciate very clearly). I finally was able to get past the automatic system and have now been on hold for OVER AN HOUR. USPS: You have completely lost my faith in your service if it ever existed at all. Good luck keeping up with delivery services such as FedEx, UPS, and the future of Amazon who are ALL prompt and clear with their deliveries and easy to get a LIVE PERSON on the phone in a timely manner. As a customer I will do whatever I can in my power to avoid USPS moving forward. Multiple packages of mine have been lost previously and after this experience, using USPS is simply not worth the annoyance and complete lack of any positive outcome. This business is on its way out.

I have had a terrible time getting a package delivered (& to the correct address!). The first delivery attempt was a no-go as the recipient had just moved into the home and had not gone into the post office to update, so they didn't deliver, even though it was correct! Then I called the Scottsdale post office to tell them the issue. They told me they would hold the package so that the customer could come in and update their address and pick up the package all in one. The customer came in to do that the following day and the package had been moved to a "forwarding pile". I told them this was incorrect, as this person doesn't have a forwarding order on file. No one would listen to me. The package was forwarded to an apartment complex in Phoenix which has nothing to do with the customer. I spoke to Wendy at the USPS Cactus location and she confirmed it was delivered there and appears to be incorrect, however they have to follow what orders the Scottsdale USPS put on the package. Wendy went to go look for it at the apartment complex and also sent the carrier to look for it. No one could locate it. I filed a claim with the USPS online. They declined the claim as they show the package was delivered. Yes, it was delivered, but to whom? No one has it. It is lost and was delivered to a completely wrong address. I am now holding on the phone to explain this to the USPS (50 minute hold time was estimated).... I have little faith they will correct this situation. I have spent hours trying to get this taken care of... ridiculous.

I had a terrible experience with the USPS and their priority two day mail , which was bad enough as it involved my great granddaughters birthday , her gift and having the post office lie to me for a period , when I did find out the truth of the situation I could have a friend who it a police officer in the town where the mail was addressed to and had he got there on that date he would have got the gift back , but the post office did not give me the truth for almost a month so at that point there was no use . Oh and as far as the supposed $50.00 insurance is concerned after being jerked around for a month and having 2 one hundred dollar bills stolen by either the postal carrier ( which would be a good reason for the month delay in getting the real address it was supposedly delivered to ) but I was out the two hundred dollars , my great granddaughter was disappointed in me so I immediately Western Unioned another two hundred . After all this the USPS sent me a check for fifteen dollars which took the place of the supposed Fifty dollars that was promised !!

I was so offended I told her to just be on her way, I would have had to walk up my stairs to the counter to grab the envelope which would have been less then 30 seconds to hand it to her. I cannot believe the way she spoke to me for such a simple quick request. HORRIBLE service and I am highly dissapointed and I believe she should be reprimanded for her blatant lack of customer service and kindness in general!

Live in Sultan, WA on Depot Lane. Our mail is delivered our of the Gold Bar, WA post office. Ordered a product weeks ago from a North Carolina company. The rep there said they mailed it early LAST WEEK. It never got here. Not the first time this has happened. Two to three times a year I get my neighbor's mail (some of it of a very private nature) delivered to my mailbox. Think the Gold Bar Post office needs to up its game. Think some regional overseer for the Postal Service needs to look into things there.

Went to post office in Greenbrier Tn. Wanted to mail a small bracelet to a friend in Germany & asked what would be best to mail it in. The man was extremely rude, waved his arm that and said "I could get a box , I guess" There was no one else in the post office. He seemed angry, irritated & mocked any question I had. I struggled trying to put the box together & had no idea how to fill out the customs form. He rolled his eyes when I asked for help. Then he said it would probably cost 100.00 to mail it. He was scaring me so I told him that I will just go to another post office & he said "Another POSTOFFICE??" I left & went to the post office in Goodlettsville Tn & they were so helpful & kind & I paid 15.00. The man at the post office in Greenbrier Tn has a problem.

So my mother is not receiving her mail. Called the customer service lines and waited over 50 min (even though it was suppose to be a 20-30 min estimated wait time). Placed a claim and was told that I would be contacted by an agent that was looking into the matter. Did not receive any contact. When I called again later, I was placed in the same 50 min wait to be told that I needed to call a different number and contact another agent. The person who answered said, "What city are you calling from? What does this have to do with my city? Why are you calling my city?" and just generally being confusing and not helpful at all. Transferred me to a different number that could've been the right destination? Only to be hung up on as soon as they asked, "How can I help you"?

I use the Informed Delivery Daily Digest, I see multiple letters scanned for coming to your house soon, But they never arrive. We only get the junk mail, All bills and letters are not being delivered? Spoke with many supervisors and management. Supervisor says mail carrier delivers all mail and suggested a P.O.Box ? What can I do to get our mail delivered. I filed a complaint, just made things worst.
