Shedding a Light on USPS Service Performance

You probably have heard a lot recently about the pandemic and other issues causing problems with mail delivery, with some people saying it takes weeks for packages and letters to arrive. Maybe you even experienced problems yourself. Maybe you’ve been getting your mail on time and wondering what all the complaints are about.

Did you ever wish you could get a better understanding of how the Postal Service is doing across the country? Well, now you can. We recently launched a new service performance webpage that includes an interactive map displaying quarterly data on the Postal Service’s service performance around the country.

You can filter the data by time period, geography, mail class, or service standard. Want to see on-time performance for presorted First-Class Mail that is supposed to be delivered in two days? You can. Maybe you’re interested in focusing on Marketing Mail in New York? You can filter the map to see that also.

We will continue to update this page quarterly as the Postal Service releases new data. The interactive map is not all the website features; it also functions as a one-stop-shop for all the OIG’s published and upcoming work on service performance. So, take a look and tell us what you think

I am Canadian and if I ever recieve my package I will never use your service again my package should be moving not sitting for 7 to 15 days at a sorting facilty if you were in canada you wouldnt be around long you are too slow our regular mail is ten times faster then your priority mail and ten times cheaper

I got a "last Notice" for an insured letter I had to sign for on 12/19. I never got a first notice. This last notice was brought over by a neighbor a block away with a different street name but same address# So it went to the WRONG ADDRESS TWICE. This is after a package was delivered and left in the middle of my driveway. Why not put a blinking light on it saying "STEAL ME." I went on line on the morning of 12/20 and filled out the proper form to have it redelivered 12/22. It wasn't. My postman took the notice on 12/22 and said he'd bring it the next day. this is now the 27th and I'm sure the letter has now been sent back to whomever felt it was important enough to ship it to me insured. THERE'S NO EXCUSE OR EXPLANATION OF HOW THE POST OFFICE WORKS THAT IS AN ACCEPTABLE EXPLANATION FOR ANY OF THIS OTHER THAN THE PEOPLE YOU HIRE GET PAID FOR DOING WHATEVER THEY WANT. They also don't answer the number at the Post Office. After the package was left in the middle of my driveway when my covered and sheltered porch was four steps away, I was told "they're too busy" to answer the phone. Right. I have a busy job, too, and I'm too busy to drive 45 minutes on my lunchour to talk to nitwits. If I did my job deciding not to answer the phone I'd be fired in a heartbeat.

Living in your shoes! At least I deliver all the mail the incompetent carriers have put in my mailbox. I don't just sit and complain I put in for a job...guess I am too competent as I never have had an interview. I have lived here for 16 years and had problems the entire time. Postmaster says it is difficult because there is an N and S on our road....guess what sweetie the numbers are different! Next excuse!

yup. They lost the lien release title to my truck twice also. talk about a headache. I won't even buy things online if I see they are going to be shipped usps. I'm here right now waiting on a package that was already supposed to be here which I didn't know was coming by usps. Every time they have to deliver something to me something gets screwed up. It seems the only thing they can do reliably is fill my mailbox with junk mail.

defund the usps.

I have a package that's been missing from the Jersey City distribution center for two weeks. Filed a claim with USPS and they responded with some canned PR release about the Newark distribution center. That's not even where my package was sent. That's not even getting into the fact that I had to wait an hour on hold because the USPS website wasn't taking online tickets. So they won't deliver your mail, refuse to take online requests for help, hamstring you with unreasonable wait times to talk to someone, and then don't even address the issue when they get back to you. I'm honestly impressed. I feel like they put more effort into belittling me than actually delivering what I paid for.

Priority mail is a sham. My package just sat in same place for 6 days before it finally moved. This will be 10 days if Im lucky. Last package sent this summer took 2 weeks to go from Florida to Ohio. Total scam!!

You mail a parcel from your post office , it gets transferred to GMF by contract routes. So the mailing post office and gmf are post office employees once it leaves the gmf it goes on truck to air port or truck to next gmf not postal employees. my point is many don't know that for much of that parcel journey is not with post office employees.

Sent small box by registered mail and supposed to be delivered in 3 days. Eight days later and tracking says box is bouncing back and fourth in post offices in NYC. Three hours from destination, cost $30.00 to ship it 3 states. Next time UPS!

I think USPS must have only brainless fools working for them. In fact, I suspect that might be a prerequisite. It's the only way that could explain how utterly inefficient and incompetent they are. My packages either get lost or arrived really late whenever they get delivered by USPS. My blood boils whenever I read the tracking updates, like why is my package keep moving further and further away from me? How hard is it to scan a barcode properly?

USPS has been mishandling multiple packages for quite a while now. Right before Christmas they have mishandled two of mine. One was "Disposed of by post office". It was recieved Dec.16th at 7:00pm and disposed of December 18th around 5:45 a.m So it days on my dashboard. The other was returned to original sender. They are illegally mishandling federal packages and nobody is doing anything about it. We've made complaints about the mail carrier and post master...nothing was done and things got worse.

Last order delivered by a usps driver in Tacoma, WA. I received a notification that the driver couldn’t fit my “coffee table” into my 8x10 inch mailbox and had to take it back to facility. What a perfect example of your horrible drivers. They can’t think past their noses except during lunchtime. Amazon packages almost always arrive on time with zero issues. At this point if there is any order being delivered by usps, I will cancel and find other means of having it arrive to my house.

Currently missing 2 different packages mailed to 2 DIFFERENT ADDRESSESS!!! I'm awaiting very important mail so I thought "having issues here, so I'll have it sent to my aunt's house." AND NOW THAT ONE IS MISSING!!! Like.... what is this??? This is so frustrating and even worse, there is literally nothing we can do about it.

Never had mail problems until I moved to my current address in 1991. Thirty years of getting other people’s mail and not getting all of mine. Tried everything.

I’m talking to you, Sam Bass Road PO in Round Rock Texas. And everybody in the post offices in that area talk about how worthless you are.

Why don’t you just admit it. Some of your employees are totally worthless and will never get fired and the person or persons running the USPS is also worthless. Maybe they should run for Congress.

AMEN!!!! I don't mail packages anymore through USPS. I send it right from the place I buy online because the lines are always 20-30 people deep and two people who are slower than molasses from the tree in early morning January in Minnesota.

Looks like the USPS has lost 2 more packages of mine on the same day but from 2 different senders. This happened with 2 other packages a few months ago. The packages were insured so I thought I'd get reimbursed...of course not. USPS will just point to their tracking and say "the system says it was delivered so there's nothing we can do." Sure, they'll assign someone to look into your lost mail but they don't make much f an effort. They asked my driver if he remembered dropping off my mail and he said no. Case closed. I avoid USPS .

USPS has lost more of my packages this year so far than in the 8 years I've been in business. I run a small business and you are literally killing it. When you lose a package, it's my responsibility to pay for it again and ship it again hoping it don't get lost a second time. At $4 a 1st class package is ridiculous. Especially for a $1 it that's too big to be sent any other way. 1 oz should not be the same price as 4 ozs . So... With over $100 to USPS in shipping costs per day... That's 35600 a year. I'm done. I'm going to ups. Yep ups can have money now. Your loss.

I shipped 4 packages through UPS ground and they were received in 5 days. Two letters were sent through USPS 3 weeks ago and still nobody knows where they are and why they haven't been received. Letters. Not packages. Mailed out March 8th and it is now April 2cd. Very important letters. Not good.

Why do you accept people's money for tracking and then not refund them for losing their package? I essentially gambled on getting my package and lost 200 dollars because of your agencys incompetence. I will never use the USPS for anything ever again. Hope being privatized was your end goal because now I'm cheering for it.

Complete pain to deal with. Ordered a few items off eBay and Amazon over a period of 2 months. Didn’t receive any of them. Called and called and even went to post office to resolve the issue. The employees were rude and obviously didn’t care. All of a sudden, 2 1/2 months later, all of our packages arrived at once. They are complete garbage.

I’m so frustrated!!! Every time I order something and send it to a family member in Illinois my package does not make it to USPS!! This is the THIRD time!!! I order something and send it to the same address!! And my package does not make it!!! I don’t know what they are doing!! Feels kinda sketchy!! I’m so livid!!

My local post office in Boston 02128 is lazy, in addition to admitting that they hold mail I am super frustrated that I can pay for priority mail and it takes weeks to travel inside Boston. WTF postal service!! The local mail man didn’t want to leave his truck to deliver my mail, he wanted to drive right up to the building without getting out which was 25 yards. I called his boss who supported that his driver is too busy to get out of his car and won’t deliver my mail. I had to call customer service who agreed it was lazy and gave me the local post master phone. I talked to Bostons Post master who made the local boss tell his driver to deliver the mail. And out of spite for that they hold my mail again. Maybe someday karma will find them.

USPS has lost 3 packages of mine this year. The system to try to find out where a late package is, is basically useless. The only this that happens is the local post office calls you and reads you the tracking info that you can already see for yourself. I can understand that packages will be late, but to lose so many packages is unacceptable. There must be dumpsters full of "lost" packages somewhere.
