Shedding a Light on USPS Service Performance

Date: 06/14/21 | Category: Delivery & Collection

You probably have heard a lot recently about the pandemic and other issues causing problems with mail delivery, with some people saying it takes weeks for packages and letters to arrive. Maybe you even experienced problems yourself. Maybe you’ve been getting your mail on time and wondering what all the complaints are about.

Did you ever wish you could get a better understanding of how the Postal Service is doing across the country? Well, now you can. We recently launched a new service performance webpage that includes an interactive map displaying quarterly data on the Postal Service’s service performance around the country.

You can filter the data by time period, geography, mail class, or service standard. Want to see on-time performance for presorted First-Class Mail that is supposed to be delivered in two days? You can. Maybe you’re interested in focusing on Marketing Mail in New York? You can filter the map to see that also.

We will continue to update this page quarterly as the Postal Service releases new data. The interactive map is not all the website features; it also functions as a one-stop-shop for all the OIG’s published and upcoming work on service performance. So, take a look and tell us what you think

With respect, this response is just another form letter. I have no confidence that contacting the PSCAO will be anything other than a waste of my time: I will receive another form letter, this time with some form of apology relating to Covid. I may even get 'escalated'. Will I ever find out what happened for a month while the package toured Florida? No. Will USPS have the decency to refund the cost? Probably not. Will I get an answer (or any action) regarding another parcel that was accepted by the College Park Post Office in Atlanta on Sept 2nd... and is still sitting there, no closer to its destination in Nashville (250 miles away), as of 22nd of Sept. ? I presume everyone is doing their best, in trying circumstances... but that's not good enough. You're charging for a service, but seem incapable of performing it - and worse, have no effective remediation process when it all goes wrong. Please provide a telephone number so I can speak to a human being.

Recently, I seem to be getting all my mail, some from weeks ago, all in 1 day. Very frustrating. Why can't I get my mail daily as it comes in?

Very surprised and disappointed to see first class mail taking over 3 weeks to get from Michigan to West Tennessee. I received mail in Afghanistan in one week, so this is terrible! I ordered my first Amazon package to be delivered to the Tennessee house and was horrified to see that it was handed off to the USPS for final delivery. Of course, the package is late …

Why are we paying the SAME price for 2-3 Priority Mail, when it now takes 7-10 days?
Why does the USPS even have a tracking system at all? It's always wrong and utterly useless. They sent me two texts on Thursday telling me that my package was on time and would arrive on Friday. On Friday morning, I checked, and all it said was that it was running late, but still would arrive, eventually. No location, no updated ETA. NOTHING.
So, my Priority Mail package that should have arrived Wednesday or Thursday won't arrive until AFTER the Monday holiday. Most likely next THURSDAY (based on the last 12 times I have been screwed) That's TEN days for a package that was supposed to arrive 1-3 days, according to their advertising and the price I paid.

I live in Fayetteville, NC and I am no longer receiving my mail. I see the worker at our boxes daily. Sometimes twice a day on weekends. However over the past 2 weeks I have not received ANY mail. Which is unusual considering my contract company is located out of state and sends packets quite often. I dont even get the coupon flyers or any other junk mail anymore. What gives?! Im tempted to talk to the postal worker. I can't miss important items from my employer. Especially since we are all on an alternating work from home or from our government offices.

I’m lost at this point. 9 months ago my wife and I move prior to this we never have had problems with usps. We moved to Texas for 3 months cause of work then came back to California 95129. We did change of address both times and made sure to update our addresses with our banks and etc. well since moving back 9 months ago we dont receive mail . Especially my wife . Even though we have updates out addresses with our bank and etc she doesn’t receive mail . 3 time in March requested a new debt card never was delivered. Only one time it was showed scanned on the informed delivery but it never showed . We thought maybe someone was stealing our mail from our gated community/ locked mail box but that wasn’t the case. We had the lock changed and still no fix . So we went to the local post office they said nothing we can do said to leave . I called the usps hotline was told nothing we can do . So now 9 months since our move we are not receiving mail . We even tried a hold mail at the post office and they told us nothing was being delivered there . So where is it going ? Our bank and other places we receive mail from all told us there are not getting the mail sent back to them . So where is it going ? I need someone to get ahold of me . every complaint / requested I have submitted has gone un answered . I am in contacts with retaining a lawyer help me with the matter . Please I am lost .

I do not know what is going on with my postal office locally but they are not delivering my mail in a timely fashion and much of it never comes. I have several subscriptions to magazines that never get to me and other mail I always received regularly. I am not even getting any flyers or junk mail either. I used to receive at least five pieces of mail a day. Then what mail I do get if often damaged or soaking wet on rainy days. Some days we also don't get our mail until after 9pm. Is this because I complained before about this that it's getting worse and not better? I do know the regular mail person takes all kinds of "gifts" from people for special delivery into their homes for packages while those who can't afford to gift don't get the same service. I am sick of it.

On regular basis 21043 USPS does not deliver sensitive financial documents. We had cases when our mail was delivered to neighbors and mail from far away properties delivered to our mail box. I am pretty sure some strangers already know all our financial background NO thanks to USPS. We are not like millenials and don't live with our faces glued to the phones, trying to stay off the internet when we can, so we rely on paper delivery. I guess everyone in the country just has to dump USPS service at the first opportunity, because this USPS is not working for us, but for some crooks who are given our PII and financial info on the silver plate. What a shame that all of this has turned into!

I am quite unhappy with the postal service where I live. Immensely saddened by the delay, loss and constant misdelivery of mail. My credit card has been stolen. Drivers license “lost” till I told a neighbor and then it miraculously appeared next day as with a lot of time sensitive mail. The postman has been changed from that incident. It has started again. Some how the unstamped mail dated letters end up getting to me 3 weeks late! One thing I have noticed for certain is that informed delivery mails are not constant! The time received varies through out the day and on calling it in I was informed that “ no one knows where it’s scanned”! This was not the case 3-4 months ago informed delivery mails reached the mail box at 8:30 am no later than 9:00 am. Now it’s as late as 3:00 pm. I have reason to believe that some how mail has been tampered with by neighbors in cohorts with a postal employee (sad to say). Mail seems to be reopened n sealed. Medicines are always delivered to the wrong address! Please I am tired of complaint and hitting a brick wall with every one pointing a finger at every one else. Please feel free to contact me - also if you look into my account you shall see the numerous complaints filed.
Thank you

USPS has become one of it not the most incompetent parcel delivery service in USA. They try to use covid as an excuse but their service has been terrible for the last 3-4 years. Local employees do a fine job, however sorting facilities have become trash. I suspect the issue is that all of the older workers have retired/been replaced by the younger generation & the younger generation is incapable of doing a competent job.

I absolutely agree with you. 12 years and no issues till we got a younger girl. She won’t deliver anything that requires her to drive in the driveway or walk to our porch to leave it. She is real good at writing those orange slips and placing them in the mailbox. She should win a participation trophy for that.

Today, Aug 16, 2021, my cousin in Port Chester New York received a card returned in the mail that she had sent to me on February 9, 2021. I live in Connecticut and the envelope was addressed correctly, including the zip-code +4. She took a photo of the envelope-it was marked ANK-Attempted Not Known. That is so false, I have lived at this address continually since 1985. it is a small town. In recent months my magazine subscriptions have gone missing, there are times when I don't get any mail for days, then it gets delivered in a clump. Sometimes my cameras do not show the truck go by at all. The mail used to be delivered regularly at about 12:30, now it is anytime from 12:00 to 6:00pm. I can understand changes in delivery times depending on weather and volume, but to not be recognized as a valid person with a valid address is disturbing. I have checked my address with the USPS checking system, it says the address is good, so why is my mail going missing or being returned to sender?

I live in Bigfork Montana and this is happening daily for me.. I send packages daily via usps and I pay for 2 day 3 day priority and the packages don't arrive for 7-10 days.. I have been told I can't recieve a refund unless they loose the package. Regular envelope mail has been taking 2 weeks to get to another county.. literally 40 miles away.... I feel like I am basically being robbed.. they are collecting the money for a two day or 3 day shipping but not delivering it in the expected time frame that it should be with that paid postage.

I have received packages delivered to my door for Twenty years until this year. I’m being treated like a new address, they will not deliver my packages and I have to drive 30 miles round trip for packages. I’m paying for delivery of these packages but having to go get them at the post office. Can I get part of the package cost refund?

I experience the same problem and am at a loss of what to do! What's really annoying is when you think you're paying for UPS and it turns out to be SurePost....always ends up at post office. After 25 years of no issues with package deliveries, the new driver can not back out of my drive and will not leave packages that do not fit into standard mailbox (NOTE: UPS, Fed-Ex and fill in USPS driver have no issues leaving packages at gate). I spoke with the local supervisor and she suggested I leave the gate open so driver can turn around since for some reason the drive is now too long to back out (again even UPS, Fed-Ex and fill in USPS driver have no issues). Opening the gate is not as easy as sounds since I have several dogs that need to be secured. The package slips all indicate 'no-turnaround' but they are officially filed as 'no secure location'. The latest package I scheduled a redelivery, received confirmation and opened the gate and still NO PACKAGE. Two days later I got an email indicating it had been delivered to front door/porch? When I filed a missing package claim this is the response I received from the supervisor: "The parcel in question is still at the Harriman Post Office. The parcel was accidentally scanned when setting up a new scanner. The redeliver request can not be followed as there is no safe turnaround at your gate. The parcel will be available here at the post office for your pick up."

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?

This is the third time in a month that the usps has “attempted “ to deliver my package. All times of which no one ever showed up. We have a camera, so why are they lying. They can deliver bills with no issue but gods forbid I get my car parts. USPS really is slacking.

There are 3 normal reasons for false "stop the clock" scans. Normally the station ran out of carrier man hours, everyone worked the limit of 12 hours that day and pieces still could not be gotten to. Next the piece is too heavy for the carrier on the route. Management can try to say you should be able to lift it if you want to work here but it is still to heavy and the carrier can make a safety claim. The least likely but also happens is that the piece is too long and just doesn't fit the standard postal vehicle and the drivers of vehicles with longer cargo bays have run out of potential work hours before they could detour to deliver outsized pieces. In each case the path of least resistance from the next level of management is to stop the clock with a false attempted scan.

I think the Post Office in Del Rio, TX is the worst I have ever encountered. USPS is horrible in dealing with rural communities, and Del Rio no exception. They continue to accept payment from Amazon and other companies to ship to customers; however, have no intent to deliver these packages to the customer's home (which is what was paid for). For in town customers they do offer such service but they continue to cause chaos for customers who live even just outside the city. In addition to not delivering packages you are now forced to go into the worst Post Office in existence to try and "pick up" the packages you paid to be delivered. The personnel in Del Rio are unprofessional, rude, and care free when it comes to customer service. The line is too long and the training, management, and culture of this Post Office is unacceptable. USPS needs to have a higher standard and sense of pride. Perhaps USPS management can reach out to ChicK-fil-A for some advise on customer service and efficiency, and maybe contact UPS on how to deliver packages to someone's actual home. For those of you with these same issues, hang in there and keep the pressure on USPS to make changes and actually provide the services they are being paid for.

Super frustrated. I had a priority package arrive and depart the Shreveport LA Distribution Center on 6/4/2021 and then apparently just disappeared. I opened two search inquiries and both were closed, opened a missing mail search, called the 800 number, called Consumer Affairs and all for nothing. I don't understand. Nobody cares just says "It's lost." Out $360.00 and the USPS can't be held responsible for losing my package.
