The U.S. Postal Service has a wide spectrum of customers, from businesses and organizations to every household in the United States. Balancing the needs of these customers is no small task, yet satisfying them is essential to the Postal Service’s success. With that in mind, the Postal Service has made improving the customer experience one of the key elements of its strategic goals.

For consumers, customer service ranges from wait time in lobbies to letter carrier service to interaction with postal staff at a Post Office. Business mailers might focus on different aspects of customer service, such as delivery performance, interaction with acceptance personnel, or how quickly a service problem is resolved. What customers might not realize is that the Postal Service relies on a number of systems to support customer services and to improve a user’s overall experience. These systems can also reduce manual inputs, increase efficiency, and streamline operations. Often seamless to customers, these sophisticated systems have helped to make mail a reliable method of communications. However, when they go down or work inefficiently, it can lead to negative customer experiences, which might impact future business opportunities.

For example, business mailers use the Facility Access and Shipment Tracking (FAST) system to set up appointments to enter mail at postal facilities. FAST collects and monitors appointment data for the facilities, which improves the efficiency and effectiveness of appointment creation for both customers and Postal Service management. Business mailers also rely on PostalOne!, a suite of web-based business capabilities that allows mailers to integrate their mail planning and production processes with those of the Postal Service for “seamless” and efficient mail induction.

Consumers are more likely to use the Postal Service’s website usps.com to research or access services, such as purchasing postage, looking up ZIP Codes, printing shipping labels, or submitting a change of address form. And although retail customers might not realize it, their customer experience hinges on the Point of Service (POS) Retail system, which automates retail transactions at post offices and other retail counters.

When these systems are working properly, customers may not think about them at all. But if these systems experience an outage, the customer experience could be entirely different. Our office is reviewing these systems as part of an audit and would like to hear from customers. What have your experiences been when using FAST, PostalOne!, usps.com and other types of services? Are they consistently available? Or have you experienced system availability problems?

For business customers, has system availability or slow response times affected your own internal processes, such as transportation schedules or other mail entry issues? For retail customers, have you had problems accessing information or services on usps.com? We also welcome comments of Postal Service employees on their experiences with these applications and the services they support.

While the scope of our audit is limited to systems review, we welcome input on the entire customer experience.

I visited the post office in Inwood today looking for a lost package not feeling very upset if the situation. However I encountered Ms. Sosa who made it her personal mission to find my package and provide me with a level 10/10 service. Thank you so much Ms. Sosa for lifting my mood and making my weekend so much better. She deserves a raise ASAP.

I will try to avoid usps at all cost in the future. Horrible customer service in person and over the phone. I mail a package from Oregon to California. I checked the status a week after to find out it was in Massachusetts. The next day I see the package is in New Jersey. I went to an usps store and they had no idea how to help or why the package was in MA and then in NJ. No help provide whatsoever. I tried calling customer service and it was impossible to talk to a person. I kept on trying and trying until finally i was able to get my call sent to an agent. To make things worse, the wait time was 45-50 minutes. Waited an hour nothing, I decided to hang up since they close at 8:30 Est time. No idea what will happen to my package. Frustrated customer!!!

This is crazy. I got in line at 830 at the george dieter post office. Its now 927 and only two peoplw have been assisted. No sence of customer service or process in place to handle the amount of patrons that attend this location. Some serious managment skills are needed here. Only one person at the window for package pick ups, key returns and new accounts. Please help these guys. 1.3 stars for this location. I feel bad for the people that are about number 30 in line. Might be more than that by now. So many elderly people standing.

I would really appreciate it if someone could please speak to the employees at location 995 NW 119th St, North Miami, FL 33168. The ladies here are very unprofessional and rude. They speak to their customers as if their talking to children. I was ashamed because i moved back to the area with my fiancé who went to the office for the first time and felt really disrespected, he asked me what did he do to her and I replied I'm so sorry but that's how they talk to all their Customers. Also I had my package stolen at this location but I let it go because it was causing stress and now I have to put up with the nonsense. They don't take the time out to listen to what your saying and they expect you to just know how to send off a package instead of correcting me She said "I DONT KNOW WHY YALL COME UP IN HERE WITH THESE BAR CODES ON THESE PACKAGES ITs GONE GET SENT RIGHT BACK TO YALL" instead of letting me know politely that I should take the codes off first before sending it out.

The postal workers obviously doesn't get any customer service training because they are still the rudest and the most angry employees I know compare to any other industries, from just to picking mail that you request hold to asking just a simple question they definitely don't have any patience for the customers at all, instead of being helpful with the customers they are usually belittled by the USPS employees....

Having a terrible experience with the PO. My travel documents were sent from the consulate in Chicago and they never arrive to me. My brother is getting married in couple weeks and I can believe that I will miss his weeding only because the PO lost my documents. The people in Vail post office were so unprofessional and hang up the phone on me always when I try to ask them for help. To get a new documents its taking more than 7 months. I completely understand that this happen but I can not understand why no one is doing anything to fix this mistake. I open a case and I hope miracle will happen and I will get to go on this very important event. Such a shame for the Vail Co post office employees. You are giving wrong picture for the place where you live and work.

I am stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, KS and live on-post. I ordered an item and when it took longer than expected, I used the tracking number provided by the vendor. The USPS website said the package was delivered 2 days ago??? I have not seen the package and I even waited an extra day before I contacted the seller to resolve the issue. The vendor re-sent me the items via UPS. The tracking data said there was no address and 9 mins later said it was delivered? I know that if I go stand in line at the post office, I will get ZERO resolution so I choose to let the vendor deal with you. They will learn to use UPS/FEDEX if they stay in business long enough. I also requested that they place a note on my account to not use USPS. This episode reconfirms my opinion of USPS and why I will avoid using USPS at all costs.

Postal service to Blairsville, Georgia is extremely poor. Routinely takes 5 or more days to send a letter from Jacksonville, Florida to Blairsville, Ga. Difficult to understand why, particularly when very few actual letters are being sent these days. If it wasn't for online shopping, all carriers would be doing these days is stuffing mailboxes with junk mail.

Why would you ship my package to my local carrier then not deliver it, then mark it as delayed, then ship it to a different facility and let it sit there for 24 hours marked as delayed? Then after dealing with incompetent costumer service reps. I get answers like just use the website, it has more information than I do. Why do you even exist if you can't do your jobs? Why can FedEx, ups, and PRIVATE businesses get it done right but the UNITED STATES postal service ALWAYS messes up?

on May 8th, I mailed 4 boxes from Baltimore to Inglewood. So far only one package has arrived at the destination; two appear to be on their way. The forth went to Bell Gardens CA and was sent back through Greensboro, NC to Capital Heights, MD. I called customer service for help. I was on hold for one hour, 12 minutes. The customer service person said he could see even less than what I saw in the tracking system. How is that possible? He said he could do nothing to help me. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She was of no help either. I had opted to stay on the line for the survey. I could hear the customer service people talking about me. I wasn't rude to anyone I just wanted some assurance that my package would get to its destination. but instead, after that ridiculous wait time, I got "I don't know; you'll just have to wait". what's the point of a customer service department that can't help the customer. The automated survey wasn't working either. For every question asked, I was told, "I didn't hear that". I would have to listen and answer again and then I would be given a keypad option. I tried to complete the survey but I'm nor sure my answers were recorded.

"If you have not already done so, please try contacting your local Post Office. If you have already done that, try contacting USPS Customer Service"??????? The horrible Post Office here in Lakeway, Texas does not answer it's phone. The Post Master here ignores e-mail complaints. USPS Customer Service only helps if it is a specific complaint on a lost piece of mail, etc. Who do we contact if our local Post Office, in general, is doing a horrible job?!? If I post a complaint on a local Facebook page, it fills up instantly with many, many other people complaining. We are all at a loss as to what to do. We can't depend on getting our mail here properly! If we were to compile a list of unhappy postal customers, who could we send this to. We really need help here in Lakeway, Texas!!!!!!

This is the 7th time this has happened in the past 2 years. I am home and receive a message that a package that was supposed to be delivered yesterday was undeliverable. My entire family was home and the front door to our home was open. I rush out to see if I could catch the delivery person and no one is there. My neighbors were outside and side and said NO ONE came to our home. Despite what the website said no delivery message was left at our door. This is not the first time this has happened!!! I am extremely angry as I needed the package on the day it was supposed to be delivered. I went to the post office this morning and retrieved my package myself and as usual when I asked the postal employee to speak with the supervisor she said he was not available. HE is NEVER EVER available. How do I lodge a real complaint to get this resolved. I am tired of paying for packages to be delivered on a particular day the Postal Delivery Employees NOT delivering the on time. And lying and saying they attempted to deliver my packages. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

In the past two days after 5pm employees from the postal office, driving a personal car, have come to my home claiming that a package was dropped by mistake in my house and we kept it...the first time was a single woman asking me to show her all the boxes I have received..sounded too fishy. Today another two women come after 7pm with the same request but this time way more aggressive and accusing me of stealing those boxes....I honestly feel aggravate and I will report then to the police because if something happens to me or the house it should be related to them

On Wednesday morning, May 10th, I bought a book of stamps at the Boswell Post Office in Boswell PA. The employee asked me what kind of stamps I wanted. I stated " It doesn't matter. After I paid for them, I saw that they had stamps that had "Celebration" printed on them. Since I am placing these stamps on Graduation Announcements, I asked if I could have those stamps instead. The lady stated in a very rude voice, You told me it didn't matter what kind of stamps you wanted." I stated, " I did, however these will look nice on announcements because it is a Celebration. She gave me the book of the Celebration Stamps and I returned the other ones. She then tried to void the original stamps, However she didn't know how. She became frustrated and told me " Just GO". In a very rude manner. I didn't mean to upset the employee, however, I didn't deserve to be treated in the manner. !!!!

I just want to ask if we are not allowed to get priority mail envelope for future mail because we are a regular customer. We got a couple of envelopes and the lady hysterically got mad.. saying she has no time to go out to just refill the envelopes. If it is not allowed she can just say it in a nice way without raising her voice as if i am a theft. I think you need to put her in customer service seminar because obviously she don't have any knowledge about customer service at all. Lady Clerk of Newark Avenue USPS

Hello, After visiting one of your locations today in Malvern, PA, I thought I would provide you with some feedback as to why your business is horribly failing. This location had about 9 people in line when I walked in and one, extremely slow individual working behind the counter. Perhaps he couldn't keep up because your "computers" are extremely antiquated. The location was advertising in THREE different locations "Stamps Available at THIS USPS". After waiting in line for 20 full minutes (please note how ridiculous this is to purchase stamps), the man behind the desk told me that you ONLY have flag stamps at this location. I'm writing to find out why you are advertising dozens, and DOZENS of stamps that you do not have at this location? Moreover, it is a huge waste of my time to drive there and wait for over 20 minutes just to be told that he cannot help me. But wait you say, you sell stamps online! The stamps you sell here at EXTREMELY LIMITED in selection. Why would I have to create a log in just to purchase stamps, AND why in the world would I pay to ship stamps to myself. You are aware that you are the post office.... you can't eat the 49 cents it will cost to ship me a piece of paper? I'm sure that no one will read this, and no one will care that you completely wasted my time, thus another example of how horrendous your business is.

My local post office abuses authority and postal programs. The OIC is deaf to complaints. Only redress seems to be the courts, where absolute immunity for the post office is the norm. This leads to gross Injustice. Anyone connected to this making money while not working to change is well...human waste.

I have now had 2 packages that I ordered online, and were supposed to be delivered to me by the USPS, lost. Both times, the only thing the local post office could tell me was "the tracking number says it was delivered, the carrier said they delivered it, we don't know what happened to it." I am very disappointed in the service offered by the USPS and the way that customer service handles problems with deliveries.

We are going on 5 1/2 MONTHS not days , not weeks but MONTHS waiting for a lock replacement on our neighborhood mail box, The key or lock wore out and we are driving miles to our local office , waiting 15 to 45 Min. to collect mail and driving home. For the first 2 month I excepted this as a USPS norm but we are closer to half a year than i ever would have thought. ITS A SIMPLE LOCK REPLACEMENT in town 93720. Hard to get the data to calculate but including Gas in California and my taxes that pay for home delivery I think we are approaching $2100 in cost to me to collect my mail. I have asked, filled out 4 requests talked to post office personnel until i am blue in the face all with no information or known progress. I JUST WANT MY LOCK AND KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to wait for person was 40 to 50 minutes!!! I hung up thus cancelling my ability to answer the survey. email options by usps were no help, no help. What an organization, What a business!!!

I went via electric bike to the post office while my car is in the shop. I just had my last bike stolen after it was locked with an expensive lock, so I merely asked the postal clerk if it was ok if I brought it in for a few min (2 people total in front of me,) but the clerk rudely stated no and I should have "thought about that before I shopped." I told him I would take my business elsewhere, and another local substation was more than happy to let me bring my bike in for a couple min. This clerk has been ride to me on several occasions. He's an African American man. He seems to be rude to white people only, and jokes with people of color. PREDJUDICED AND RUDE!!! This is the station by Trader Joes, on Sunset, in Henderson, NV. I utilize your Severance/Cleveland Heights Oh location often. While I have to say that USPS makes my eBay shipping very easy, I can't say the same for the aforementioned location. The employees saw me waiting for help yet continued to chat with each other. When I was finally helped, I was spoken to in a very rude manner. This has happened SEVERAL times, unwarranted. The employees in the Akron,OH location on Wolf Ledges near my job are never like that. It is just plain disrespectful when I go above and beyond to be nice. This is just flat out unacceptable and I would really love to see something done about it.

I was instructed to arrive 30 minutes prior to 1pm and the numbers were not distributed till 1:35pm. I also noted that the employees were ONLY one certain race. No type of diversity. I have the same complaints with my local postal center and carrier as most people who have left written complaints...and I relate to their frustration. You are right..we pay for this service which pays the wages for office staff and carriers. So it is unacceptable. But my experience today was worse. After spending too much time tracking down my mail and a package requiring a signature they asked me to assst by participating in a survey..I agreed thinking it was good that they are at least getting feed back so they can improve the service and hire better people. So the survey begins and it is an automated survey. Every question asked had to be repeated because the automated operator or surveyor could not hear me. I answered again after she started at the beginning and raised my voice...again she could not hear me and proceeded to begin again..by the third or fourth attempt I felt my blood pressure rising so I quickly hung up before I absolutely lost it and threw my phone at the wall. Oh my word...why do they try? They can't even get a survey right and have no idea it is broken because it is not a real person. The government needs to pay attention...we pay for this service .... it is not paid with our taxes...so how is it that anyone you deal with is allowed to have a bad attitude. It is obvious that most people working for the postal service hate their jobs. It is obvious that they are not trained or educated. I owned and managed a business for 23 years so I know what it takes to keep customers happy. If we received a complaint we immediately dealt with the procedures and/or people creating the problem and apologies were sent out. I read above where it stated that servicing so many people nationwide can be daunting..and is always the justification...but I'm sorry it is not acceptable. They know what they need to accomplish everyday so it should be easy to hire enough people and properly train them to take pride in doing an excellent job. Postal people do not care and think they have the right to let you know how they feel. Well I could go on and on but enough said...except..People beware of the survey...you will lose your mind!
