Shedding a Light on USPS Service Performance

Date: 06/14/21 | Category: Delivery & Collection

You probably have heard a lot recently about the pandemic and other issues causing problems with mail delivery, with some people saying it takes weeks for packages and letters to arrive. Maybe you even experienced problems yourself. Maybe you’ve been getting your mail on time and wondering what all the complaints are about.

Did you ever wish you could get a better understanding of how the Postal Service is doing across the country? Well, now you can. We recently launched a new service performance webpage that includes an interactive map displaying quarterly data on the Postal Service’s service performance around the country.

You can filter the data by time period, geography, mail class, or service standard. Want to see on-time performance for presorted First-Class Mail that is supposed to be delivered in two days? You can. Maybe you’re interested in focusing on Marketing Mail in New York? You can filter the map to see that also.

We will continue to update this page quarterly as the Postal Service releases new data. The interactive map is not all the website features; it also functions as a one-stop-shop for all the OIG’s published and upcoming work on service performance. So, take a look and tell us what you think

I wish I could stop receiving mail completely. It would be nice if we could “opt out” and never use them again. I’ll pay extra for UPS or FedEx whenever possible.

I think their policy is to hire the most laziest, ignorant people who can't get hired any where else. Switch to paperless, and use Fed Ex or UPS for shipping. We need to collectively work together and put pressure on our representatives to render them obsolete.

We are just flat out not receiving mail sometimes. Our Delivery Digest will say that it is supposed to be in the mail, but then it never comes. This is often checks. We've lost 5 checks in the last 6 months - almost an average of a check a month, when we only have an average of about 4 checks per month being mailed to us... so about 22% of our checks are being lost over the last 6 months. That is a VERY bad average. This is in the Lexington, KY area.

USPS is a joke. Amazon can get me an item in 3 days, but they take 2weeks for the same delivery.

It said my package was estimated to arrive on may 5th. Now it’s the 10th and the tracking isn’t updating. Customer support is slow too and doesn’t reply.

My husband received a notice that his medicine was delivered by USPS and was left by our garage door. Went to retrieve the package only to see nothing at the garage door. The USPS location in Twinsburg Ohio has spotty delivery service. I have received mail and medicine from neighbors who live on our street and three blocks away from me with the similar street number as me. One day, a person's medicine was delivered to our house by mistake and i ended up giving it to the mail carrier. I'm very disappointed with the USPS. The service is spotty and then they want to increase postage rates. Don't really see the return on investment .

Guam Barrigada post office staff are too slow at the package pick up window. No sense of urgency. I was 10th in line and waited an hour. I paid for crappy slow service. Not good. Are you going to do anything? We’ll see👍🏼

I would say 90% of the mail/packages I receive is through USPS. Out of that 90%, I would say around 85% of the time my mail/package arrives late. Even with priority mail it takes longer than what the website says. Why can’t usps be more like FedEx or UPS? If you compare the two, FedEx can deliver guaranteed next day or at max two days depending on the shipping choice. With usps you can choose priority express and it will still take longer than the timeframe it gives. I’m sure it’s not like that everywhere but here in San Antonio, it’s mostly like that. Another issue is that I scored really high on the application test and never even get a response back. I am more qualified than what it asks if it’s applicants and I can’t even get a yes or no and doubt it takes months to figure out if you’re hired or not. Usps needs to improve as a whole to make the experience even better for customers. BE MORE LIKE FEDEX

I am so frustrated with the USPS. I recently started selling on Ebay and MANY of my products arrive broken, even though I package them well and mark them clearly as fragile. I recently watched an employee empty the package box into another cart and she was just tossing them with no concern for the contents. The USPS is costing me a lot of money. I suppose it's time to take my business to UPS.

If you just started selling on Ebay and MANY of your packages are arriving
broken then you're not packaging them properly no if, ands, or buts.
I've been selling online for over 25 years using usps and I've never had broken
packages as problems. I do have problems lately with packages going
astray and completely disappearing, it's getting bad.

USPS stated "package was delivered", did not receive the package. Our building has security cameras, so we looked to see if someone had taken the package. There was no footage that any mailman had dropped off any package. Filed a report with USPS, they just kept saying it was delivered. I told them we did not see any mailman drop off anything. No one seemed to care, then a few days later they wanted to close the case and asked if it was resolved. I replied that I did not and still have not received my package. Then another week goes by and they wanted to close the case. Does someone want to look at the video? You cant just keep saying "it says it was delivered" because it was not.

Newport, NH one of the worst places to live in America if you're getting anything through USPS. Once your package hits the Nashua sorting station for USPS their bright idea is to send it back out of state to White River Junction, VT only to come back to this state if you're lucky. Ive had packages sent to other VT sorting station only to sit there for a day or two and then back to the right post office. Lazy is what it boils down too. If you lose a package and realize it's going the wrong direction. Then you'd think you'd save face and send it back as quickly as possible. Not USPS. They can care less about on time delivery period

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how one company can be so bad. Literally, the worst of any mailing company I've ever used and USPS is everywhere. Wedding planning is HORRENDOUS because the vendors use USPS and USPS can't deliver anything on time. I've had three packages lost in the past year. All of which were never found and included a variety of things including medication (for my depression and anxiety), food I had bought for those in need near me, and gifts for my family. If I could never use USPS again, I would be elated but, unfortunately, it's everywhere.

Do better. You want the respect and pay of a normal company and normal job? Do better. This is absolutely pathetic.

I get my neighbors mail/packages, she gets my mail. Now the neighbor across the street is getting our mail. Nobody and I mean NOBODY answers the phone at the main branch or the Vinemont branch here in Cullman Alabama. I ordered a package 2 months ago that I've had to report lost. And they love to leave packages out in the rain versus leaving them on the front porch. I wish companies would stop using USPS and employ other delivery services.

My Post Office in Shepherdstown, WV has lazy people who avoid a few steps and leave package on the wet ground and not my front door. Sinking even lower now when I asked for the charge on sending a card, the woman put on a collector stamp and charged me for it without asking... What? They will take what money they can and once the stamp is on, it is your problem.

The automated phone system is pathetic. It won't let you do anything without repeating itself and won't let you speak to anyone. I have an issue that is not covered by this antiquated system.
This is terrible customer service.

USPS charges for services it does not provide. Carriers fail to track Certified mail (so it is reported as lost) and they drop Certified Mail w/signature required and Priority Mail w/signature confirm into the mailbox without bothering to get a signature. One carrier forged a signature, "M Box", on a Priority Mail w/signature confirm. If you file a complaint about paying for services not rendered, USPS does not actually read the complaint and try to correct the poor service (or stop their carriers from committing fraud); they just tell you the letter was delivered and mark the complaint as resolved. Writing a letter to the Postmaster General gets no response either.

You will not be able to call and speak to the postmaster at the location where the service failed; no one answers the phone. If you file an online complaint; it will not be read, and you will get an inappropriate automated response.

If you need legal verification of the date that a payment or document was delivered, and to whom (signature) and when it was delivered, DO NOT USE USPS. You will be wasting your money.

I can count on my finger how many times USPS has actually gotten my package here on time. 3 times. I mean seriously, I pay extra for faster shipping AND IT STILL ENDS UP BEING SUPER LATE. No refunds either. At this point I might as well ask Aladdin and his magic carpet to deliver me my packages. Hell even a snail with a package tied to its shell could deliver this faster. I’m tired of this organization screwing me over and others as well. While I sit and wait for my package everyday, I see FedEx and UPS tearing up the roads and blowing stop signs but AT LEAST THEY ARE GETTING MY PACKAGES DELIVERED ON TIME.

For the most part I find USPS to be great. Very convenient. However, I send valuable breakables Priority mail paid at a premium. I had a teapot sent back. The customer told me that the box had been kicked. I had sent the wrong item so it was returned. Miraculously it didn’t break because I double boxed. The state of the USPS box was appalling! Why am I paying extra? So your lazy employees can ruin my business? I also had a package mislaid for months. When it arrived it had been tampered with. Because it was originally sent from California the workers thought they might find drugs that they could steal. Nope, just an antique basket. There was a note from the government inside. The package also returned to me looking like it was kicked. Are they playing kickball with our packages? Monitor your employees better please?

Signature service package sent from business to my residence was "out for delivery" on a Saturday. Waited all day and at 6 p.m., "out for delivery" changed to "no such number" and "package returned to sender". "No such number" was not explained on the USPS website. Email to customer support did not work (try again later) and calls went unanswered. Monday morning came and no change to status. A 20 minute drive to my servicing post office was a waste of time, no supervisor was on duty, and they could not tell me where the package was. I was fuming. Package was finally delivered but plopped in my box and not signed for by anyone. Every service option I tried failed miserably.
