Pushing the Envelope wishes our readers a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year. We will take a break this week, but we encourage you to read over the past year’s blogs and let us know what you think on any of the wide range of topics we covered in 2016.

We post comments as they come in, even if you have something to say about a blog that we posted years ago. Indeed, many of our older blogs have been getting new comments, generating new threads of discussion.

Be sure to come back on January 2 when we post our annual Top 10 Postal Stories of the Year – one of our most popular blogs of the year. As always, we look forward to your opinions and insights. Happy Holidays!

I would like to see the OIG investigate all the details (temporary office transfers) EAS employees are always doing. I understand the point of cross-training, but this is an area that is rife with abuse. To shift one person to a 6 month detail, then shift and additional 5-6 people down the chain to fill the residual vacancies seems to be pretty cost-ineffective, as USPS must pay lodging and per-diem for all. Seems like some managers prefer to be on details specifically to use the situation to personal advantage. As a craft employee, I see the details usually continue in this stair-step fashion until there's a clerk filling a floor supr. detail, then the short shrift ends up in the clerk craft. This money for per-diems probably comes out of a different part of the budget, but it is an expense that should be investigated for abuse and mismanagement. Thanks for your consideration of this.

Thank you for your comments. The OIG is an independent agency of the Postal Service and many of these issues fall outside of our jurisdiction. However, we do read all blog comments and pass on relevant information to our auditors and investigators. If you have not already done so, please try contacting your local Post Office. If you have already done that, try contacting USPS Customer Service, 1 (800) 275-8777, or to file an online complaint with Customer Service (and for frequently asked questions), go to the USPS Website and enter "Customer Service Help" in the search function.

The real USPS service. Just a few of many reviews and personal experiences. 1.0 star rating 11/25/2014 My review. They should call this place the BLACK HOLE, because that Is exactly where your package is going when it gets to this place. Probably the worst post office in the world. I have seen better delivery services in third world countries. Your package will never ever get delivered and please don't ever dare to waste 3 hours of your life on a line just to be told that they can't find your package. Oh no this isn't a one time thing. This will happen every single time with every single package. I have never had a good experience from this post office. I have written many claims and have made many corporate phones calls and I guess after the sh*t finally rolls downhill it finally gets to the BLACKHOLE and my package is somehow found and delivered. By the time you ever get your package, you probably could of booked a flight to wherever your package came from and came back to nyc and still have time for dinner before the blackhole decides to finally hand over the package. This place is horrendous, should never exist. Should be sent off the edge of the planet and replaced with something else that can get the job done. This place lacks supervision so I suggest make friends with a higher up in the USPS and make phone calls because you alone will never get anything done at the blackhole. Also make sure if you ever order through fedex make sure they never ever ever hand your package off to this place. Pay the extra 20-30 bucks. Get the 1 Or 2 day delivery. Or else your 7 day delivery will = 1 month easily when it enters the blackhole.

Live in Novi, MI, sent utility bill on Nov 22, bill was due on Dec 10 it has NEVER arrived I received a past due notice on my current bill. It took 14 days for my bank statement to arrive. IT looks like USPS is NOT in the business of delivering mail here in Novi. I have just moved here from Royal Oak, MI were there is wonderful mail service I really miss it. Appears not enough people to actually deliver mail in a timely manner here in Novi, MI

I sent my packages out late, two to out of state destinations on Dec 22, 2016. My receipt said expected delivery Dec 27th, I was sad, but it was my own fault for mailing so late. Both were delivered BEFORE Christmas!!
