The aptly named Business Service Network (BSN) is charged with servicing the U.S. Postal Service’s 23,000 largest customers by addressing service issues, answering questions, and fulfilling other requests. Given the annual postal spend of this customer group – almost $38 billion in fiscal year 2013 alone – it clearly behooves the Postal Service to keep these customers happy.

But retaining large commercial customers takes more than just putting out fires and answering questions. That’s why BSN employees have been encouraged to reach out to many commercial accounts to gain a better understanding of what customers need and with any luck, they can thwart service problems before they occur. Outreach also builds customer loyalty. And while the BSN’s 300 employees aren’t tasked with selling products and services – the Sales group does that – their face-to-face contact with commercial customers creates a key opportunity to do so.

Our recent audit of the BSN shows just how valuable customer outreach can be. We found that the customer accounts BSN staff proactively contacted spent significantly more on postal services than those who were not contacted. And we estimated the Postal Service could have generated an additional $382 million by proactively contacting all BSN customers. Our report found other opportunities for improvement, too, such as resolving issues more quickly, collecting more customer feedback, and redesigning the BSN staff evaluation process.

At the same time, the Postal Service is realizing it needs to beef up the BSN. During a recent meeting with mailer groups, management outlined some planned BSN enhancements. These include streamlining customer surveys, seeking ways to increase “personal” contact with commercial customers, reaching out to smaller customers, and treating all customer issues with the highest level of urgency.

Share your thoughts on the BSN. What other ways could the Postal Service serve its commercial customers? Are there loyalty programs the Postal Service could try?

YOU! NEED! TO! INVESTIGATE! THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN OPA LOCKA FLORIDA!! Almost all of the people in the reviews say that their packages were stolen or never came, and frankly I don't want my package to get sucked up by these creeps. I'm absolutely terrified that I'll have waited for 4 weeks for this package only to find out that I wasted my money because of this awful system.

Bell Gardens, CA 90201 post office. My media mail package, destined for San Diego, CA, arrived at Bell Gardens on 6-11 and remained there until 6-26. No reason. Called all morning. Does not answer phone. Not sure if package actually left there. After reading Bell Gardens reviews I believe this location needs to be investigated not only for holding packages but for theft and other complaints. Hopefully the USPS inspector can review all and take the appropriate action to resolve.

I am appalled that the USPS inspectors have not investigated or penalized the well known "black hole" or "Bermuda triangle" of post offices located in Bell Gardens, CA. Based on numerous reviews and a published article, this facility has been responsible for hundreds, maybe thousands of lost, likely stolen packages! This is unacceptable and all the people that have been affected by this deserve compensation.

Well it looks like my $300.00 vacuum ended up last at Bell Gardens sorting facility. It ended up there and have been there 6 days NO update on status nothing. No answer when I called my local post office can't help. I would like a package. We worked hard to earn that money to pay for a vicuum and now we are out of the money and the vacuum. Thanks for not doing anything about this BLACK HOLE sorting facility.

I've recently purchased a vintage Trek bicycle frameset on eBay. The listing seller is located in Flagstaff. AZ. One week later per tracking the parcel has arrived at the USPS origin facility in Bell Gardens, CA. A fur piece from the intended TN destination. I'm aware of the countless horror stories of this "Black Hole" location. I'm hopeful the "Cycle Gods" seize an opportunity to directly intervene and provide a clear course of direction relative to this inexplicable conundrum.

I tried to reply to all of you who have had a negative experience with Bell Gardens, but I have been blocked. I set up an email account at bellgardensuspscomplaint@gmail.com to compile complaints. Please email me your story. Maybe together we can make sure we are heard! On 1/6/17 my mother shipped me a box with two vacuum sealed bags of clothing. It got stuck in Bell Gardens for 5 days before finally arriving to LA on 1/13/17. When I received the box it had been torn open and tapped back up (entire thing wrapped in clear packing tape). My contents were missing but someone had been thoughtful enough to replace them with a pair of black leather chaps (not mine), a mismatched pair of black heels (one was mine) and one brown boot (mine). All my clothes were gone. I have filed complaints, asked for reimbursement but nothing seems to be getting done about this.

My package was expected to be delivered Friday, January 20th. It arrived Thursday night in Greensboro, NC. As of this morning, the 23rd, it's still sitting in Greensboro. Did most USPS workers take a four-day weekend due to the Inauguration? I'd understand it not moving Sat/Sun had it arrived Friday night, but it should've moved this morning at least!! Bad weather didn't hamper it's arrival to Greensboro since it arrived there in a timely fashion.

I can see that my package has slipped into the "Black Hole" widely known to the public as Warrendale, PA USPS. It was misrouted to a post office in West Monroe, NY and then sent back to Warrendale, PA. A quick google search of SIMPLY the town name shows MANY accounts of this very same activity. Who is responsible for checking on this situation as it seems to have gone unchecked since approx 2011? Six years have gone by with NO ONE investigating. I have to wonder if I am truly wasting my time by even posting on here. As time goes on I will most likely have to give up on the hopes of ever receiving the package.

Update: I stand corrected. I just received my package. End result was it took twice as long as normal. Reflecting back on my comment perhaps I was harsh. When I did that google search for them again this time I checked out a pic of the facility and it appears massive. Maybe they are understaffed and overworked? Either way probably something for the usps to look at there.

I have a package (a large envelope) apparently now gone missing at Bell Gardens as well. Seeing all the other complaints on the internet about Bell Gardens begs the question of why nothing is being done to improve that facility. Ditto on the utter incompetence at Bell Gardens. A (tracked) CD was sent to my old address in Fallbrook CA from Toshiba through DHL and then the USPS. The same day it arrived in Fallbrook (2 days after it was originally sent via DHL) the Fallbrook post office (PO) reportedly forwarded it to my new address in San Diego, 20 miles to the south. Five days later (!) it arrived it at the Santa Ana, CA PO, 70 miles to the north! Then four days later (!) it arrived at the Bell Gardens, CA PO, 90 miles to the north of Fallbrook! The Bell Gardens PO forwarded it to the Richmond, CA PO -- 500 miles to the north! Today the Richmond PO sent it back to the Bell Gardens PO. Heaven help us! I suspect I will never see the package.

I just ordered an item and I know when it reaches Warrendale, PA that it is coming to my town next. This time it went to Warrendale, then to Greensboro, NC and then right back to Warrendale. That to me makes no sense and I should of received this package yesterday. I also had it to where my package was coming from NJ and passed right by my town and went 2 states away just to come right back to PA and into Warrendale. I get that they have routes to follow, but it sometimes seems asinine to me.

I must say until now I've been sending letters and packages through the USPS with out ever any issues. Until now! Everytime we send a package to Washington or eighty four PA , something goes wrong at the Warrendale PA sorting facility and it is either sent back to us here or keeps circling in the system until our postmaster here intercepted it. Why is there so many issues at this facility? Also, when will something be done three times the postage came up missing and packages are sent back... Why? We have learned to send all packages out of a neighboring town as it routes packages differently and they get there without hesitation as they go through a different facility in western PA. Please do something.

Why does a package from Chester Vermont destined to Elkhart IN, go to Grand Rapids MI and then over 600 miles back to Warrendale PA before it comes 341 miles back to Elkhart IN? That is close to 950 miles from Grand Rapids MI to deliver something in Elkhart in. Wouldn't it be better to go 100 miles south from Grand Rapids MI to deliver the package in Elkhart IN?

When are you going to do about the Bell Gardens sorting facility? They consistently misdirect, lose or steal mail. For the second time in a month they have sent one of my packages out of state. I'm in San Diego, CA. It's 90 min. south of Bell Gardens. The first time they sent a priority mail package to New Jersey that I was supposed to get before I left on a trip to Italy. By the time New Jersey sent it back, yes, through Bell Gardens again, I had left. So my friend wasted $10 on priority mail. She mailed it May 27. Plenty of time. It finally arrived on June 7, the day my plane left. The second package is a book from amazon coming media mail from Nevada. It arrived in Bell Gardens on July 9. I could have had the book on July 11, when it was scheduled for delivery according to USPS. Instead, Bell Gardens sent it to Pennsylvania. Don't tell me that was a machine error. That label was printed by amazon. So now it is July 13 and this morning at 6:33 am Bell Gardens sent my book to Pennsylvania. And when Pennsylvania receives it they'll send it right back to Bell Gardens, who will sit on it for a while, maybe send it down to San Diego, maybe send it to New Jersey. Who knows? The facility is incompetent. Do a google search and you'll find thousands of complaints about them. They are one star on YELP, one star on Consumer Reports, basically an "F" grade everywhere you look. And there is no way to complain about them. There is no form on the USPS website that allows you to complain about a sorting facility. Even if you can warp the pre-chosen categories to fit, nothing happens. You get a case number. Big deal. My friend is still out the $10 she paid for priority mail and I don't have the book I ordered. I find it hard to believe the USPS is unaware of the incompetence of Bell Gardens nor the myriad of customer complaints. I spent an hour on hold just to talk to a person at the USPS help desk to tell them of this. But I question how effective that will be. There is NO confidence in the ability of a customer to complain about USPS nor any confidence that that complaint will be acted on. So I will be contacting all of my state and federal representatives. I am contacting all of the representatives in the state of California because their constituents are all effected by the incompetence of Bell Gardens (and Richmond if my searches are correct.) They can put pressure on our federal representatives. I will be sending copies to all of the congresspeople representing the entire state of California. The Senate should know since they are the ones the generate laws and every California representative in the House should know since this is an issue for every resident in the state of California. No more passing the buck. I've been through that before. USPS is a federal department so we can't do anything. USPS is a private company so we can't do anything. No more. If our representatives are too lazy to handle this I'm sure the media would love a juicy story. The internet is a wonderful thing. Social Media can be a powerful tool. And everyone gets mail. If it can happen in California it can, and probably is, happening in every other state. Time for the USPS to be held accountable.

To Whom it may concern, I am battling an on going issue with a lost/stolen package with the USPS. I sent out a large package (containing all of our families Christmas presents) on December 9, 2015 from Newbury Park, CA. The tracking number is 9534 6131 8058 5343 1401 08. On December 21, 2015 I received a letter from the USPS Seattle Network Distribution Center stating my package was never delivered and I either lost or arrived empty at a facility. They provided paperwork for me to fill out as to what was in the package. I filled out said paperwork, attached photo copies of pictures of items and proof of purchase of each item. I mailed all this paperwork back to the address provided in hopes of recovery of our package on December 22, 2015. As of yesterday January 13, 2016 I have heard nothing. So I called the USPS directly to see what the progress was on this issue. I talked to Christina and she was unsure about the whole issue. So we started with filling a claim. Claim number CA 126639906. My package was last tracked to Bell Gardens, CA (90201) on December 10, 2015 at 6:41 am. It states my package is in transit. After doing some of my our research I find out Bell Gardens, CA sorting facility is also know as the "Black Hole" and has a history of theft and lost packages! This morning January 14, 2015 I receive a phone call from Attica Ohio USPS saying they have received my complaint and haven't received my package at their facility and will continue to keep an eye out for it. Why is my complaint being sent there and not the problem facility of Bell Gardens where my package was last seen?? Now this raises a lot of concern on my part. I don't feel as if my missing package issue is get handled appropriately. I feel as if I have been passed around with no resolve on the horizon. I realize to someone it's just paperwork but this ruined our Christmas for our family and we are out hundreds of dollars on presents that someone else has confiscated with no repercussions. Please give me some help!!

Recently a victim of mail fraud, tamperng and theft by the illustrious USPS. Among the items stolen were confidential federal income tax documents, and Christmas presents for my entire family. It is an outrage that in 2015 this sort of crime can be committed without recourse. I closely work with and am affiliated professionally NBC, and am preparing to launch several investigations into Postal misconduct, tempering and theft. This is, simply put....an unacceptable outrage warranting Internal Investigations from the top down. The United States Post Office has corrupted, and cannot be trusted. As a tax paying, educated professional of my community....it is my responsibility to caution ANY person from using this postal system for any purpose. I will make it my career highlight to publicly expose the corruption, theft, tampering, fraud and mis-use of consumers, their confidential legal documents, and items of value.

I know for a fact that there was a claim filed in September 2015 that a supervisor committed fraud to obtain a job with the USPS. As an 18 year postal employee, I was under the impression that the OIG investigates all official misconduct including falsification of personnel documents, fraud and theft. Because the supervisor is a part of management, I doubt that this claim would be investigated for the crime that it actually is. When honest postal employees try to do the right and legal thing by filing a report of fraud, theft and misconduct it doesn't get investigated because the perpetrator is a part of management. I guess that it's okay for management to lie, steal, commit fraud and falsify personnel documents, just not craft employees. To make matters worse, once the illegal activity was reported to upper management, the whistle blower has now been subjected to punitive disciplinary actions, threatened, humiliated and harassed beyond belief. This is the main reason why internal crimes are underreported. Employees know that they have no recourse against management when they report crimes. Craft employees are expeditiously and viciously retaliated against for reporting theft, fraud and misconduct. What's the OIG's response on a way to rectify this situation? Does the OIG investigate management for crimes against the USPS or just contractors and craft? I eagerly await the response. Contact information, including employee identification number, facility name and finance number, and telephone number will immediately be available for a follow up upon request. Thank you in advance.

I am exceptionally unhappy with your tracking system. If a package leaves a destination, you should also be able to say where it's going and how. For example, my 2 day priority box, case #CA120940611, was mailed to Seattle, WA on 16 Dec from Arlington, Va. On Dec 22 it arrived in Greensboro, NC. The next day it departed. On Dec 27 it arrived in Waynesboro, PA. It departed the same day and is still IN TRANSIT with an expected delivery date of 19 Dec. IT IS NOW DEC 31, 2014. So your system doesn't update? On top of which, once a case was opened, when this box appeared, there should have been a flag. Pull it. Special handle. Get it to the destination. Is it on a wagon train?! Most important, your system sent me an email asking how long it took to resolve my case. Not resolved. No follow up. It doesn't ease my mind that there is a complaint site online that has people saying their property went missing in Waynesboro or arrived empty. Also, why don't you reimburse postage? If you lost the insured package, you should stand behind your "guarantee" for priority delivery. I am so sad for my 4 year old granddaughter who now thinks her Santa presents fell off the sled. Will they ever appear?! As a veteran, wife of a veteran and Mom of a veteran, I am also sad for this really bad government agency that has let us down.

Here's an idea, how about giving business customers good consistent service. Don't leave business routes 'down' in a business district so that other business carriers deliver to the 'down' business route after finishing his or her route, usually after four o'clock and many times after five PM, when many businesses are closed. How about not putting business deliveries in cluster boxes, taking away the valuable face to face contact the carriers have with businesses every day. How about not making every route overburdened where carriers don't have time to give decent service. I was once told by a retail customer, "Thanks for not throwing my mail on the floor." Those business customers that require a special collection, because they are high volume mailers, should have a collection scan point to ensure that the mail is actually picked up daily. Does anybody there even know what I'm talking about? How about putting someone in that job that really has had experience face to face with business customers. I might be interested, I'm tired of being treated like a number. While I'm venting, how about letting highly paid station managers make decisions, and suffer the consequences or reap the rewards of good management. Thanks for listening, if anybody is.

The comment that I just read on this article ends with, "is anybody listening?" I know for a fact that YOU ARE NOT LISTENING. I have begged and pleaded for help for the last 10 years. I am a target of workplace bullying by postal managers. It has ruined my life. The post office has managers at all levels for whom customer service is 100% is a NON-ISSUE. Customer complaints are ignored and clerks and carriers like myself are victimized for their personal gain and nothing else. They will lie and cheat and ruin employee lives to produce the "numbers" that appear to show progress and good service under their watch when the opposite it true. I am a veteran carrier of 27 years. Talk to carriers and other craft employees of my senority and you will sickened by the drastic level of poor customer service today. We take it personally. We were trained with customer service as the number one issue and reminded of it almost daily. Talk to craft employees 10 years below me in senority and they will tell you customer service is never really mentioned. Talk to postal managers about it and you will be lied to. The postal employees who actually do the work will tell you how to achieve quality customer service in the most economical way. Postal managers will tell you how they get their bonuses.
