The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

The real question why weren't you wearing one? Many people have children, elders, or other immonocompromised people at home. Your noncompliance literally puts everyone you make contact with at risk. This pandemic has been going on for nearly 2 months already, so you clearly know better by now. Please don't be inconsiderate. Just wear a mask and nobody will have to refuse you service. It's really that simple.

  • anon

Yes, they can. Most states have issued executive orders which require you to be wearing a face mask in public during this time, because your refusal to do so literally harms other people. Some of those people have small children or elders and other immunocompromised people at home. The real question is why aren't you wearing one? The pandemic has been going on for nearly two months now, so you clearly know better. Please be more considerate to others.

Do you know if you are a systematic? Do you know the person in front of you that is wearing a mask has a heart condition? Did you notice the person in front of you was 75? Did you know the postal worker is diabetic? All 3 of these people that wear masks are in the high risk group and you put them at risk of exposure because of selfishness. My guess is you're between 21-30.

I have been expecting six different packages all of which are failing to update for days after leaving the sort facility (in most cases Pittsburgh). Pittsburgh to Akron is usually a one-day delay in shipping at most, these have all left Pittsburgh (or a few other facilities) more than four days ago, all showing the 12:00 AM "In transit to next facility" update. Another package was showing "USPS in possession of item," followed an hour later with another update: "Shipping label created, USPS awaiting item." Is Covid really slowing/screwing everything up this much? I've never experienced multiple issues at once like this with USPS. Just wondering, I know USPS employees are doing everything they can to stay safe and keep our mails coming, but packages disappearing from tracking more often than not, and even "un-shipping" themselves is pretty surreal!

why are we paying for package delivery , which should take 3-4 days but now takes weeks , still paying the high prices, getting low price service

My husband is a CCA for three years now. He said he has to go to work tomorrow at 6:30 am to deliver packages. Is that even possible? Is that a thing? Can you make carriers come in at that hour?

Both USPS offices in my town (Bayonne Nj 07002) have suspended retail services, closed the window AND closed the parcel pick up and drop off. I have time sensitive returns/pick ups and cannot do either. This is inconvenient to say the least. Is it even legal?

It says here that the mail is delivered 5-6 days a week but in Genesee County (Flint, mi area) it is not. I collect mail for both work and home and it seems as though we’re only getting mail 2-3 times a week. We had a customer send us a check on April 2nd but didn’t receive it until 4/20 I’m not getting a lot of my statements from customers either. I realize we’re in the midst of a pandemic but no one can talk to who they need to. What’s going on?

We are in Whitehall, MI and see the same. We haven't received any mail for 3 days. We used to receive mail daily, but no longer. Now, as you said, we see mail 2-3 times a week. (and no junk mail at all now, which is kind of nice!)

Small world. I’m in Dalton Township. I have been waiting on a package mailed April 9th. It’s been in Detroit since April 20th. The USPS told me it’s there, not marked as damaged. So she says I have to be patient. It’s been a month. It’s the same for 3 other packages I have. All been in limbo at distribution centers.

I have ordered a package from US to Europe more than one moth ago. It is now stucked at NY airport, status says "in transit". In transit since 15th of April. I understand that the situation is serious in US, even in New York area(same here, in Europe), I could accept delays, but it is getting way too much. I still could accept the delay, if I got any feedback regarding the cause and saying we still have your package, but I do not got anything up to now.I payed quite much for this stuff, and I need it. USPS, please at least give information to your customers...

I have the same problem with international packages from US to Europe, the last updates are from March 26: Processed Through Regional Facility JAMAICA NY INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER or another package Mar 24: In Transit to Next Facility - probably in LA.

I have a international package 4/16 In Transit to Next Facility till now, not update any information. It's been 41 days. Really don't know what's the problem. Are those package need to quarantine for 14 days????

It appears packages are stuck in limbo, but with no consistency because some leaps through ahead of others that have been sitting for a long time already. The only thing that makes sense is that there are no procedures in place to prioritize old mail and it is literally getting blocked in by newer mail. I think everyone understands delays are likely right now, but it's the mail just sitting and being ignored that gets so frustrating. ********** For a while I thought the delays were localized to my local Detroit Distribution Center but it seems the same problem is happening everywhere. I currently have 5 packages "in transit" with no change for 7-10 days and climbing after being received at distribution centers in Detroit, Lexington KY and Jacksonville FL. I did finally get one yesterday that was stuck for 10 days in Detroit, and another that was just sent out from Florida on Friday is already out for delivery today, so it'll all probably get here eventually. Those out of state ones may take forever to get to me though if once they finally clear the outgoing gridlock at one distribution center they just get stuck again in another one or more for an equal amount of time. I guess we just need to be patient and expect mail delivery will be measured in weeks and months now, not days. ********** While I realize Covid is making things much worse and I'm trying to be patient and think of the postal workers who are dealing with the overwhelming amount of mail and worker shortages, this breakdown in systems highlights the inefficiencies in place at the USPS at a time when they really need to be making a strong case for a bailout. During the pandemic, I have yet to have any delays from UPS delivery for reference. Full privatization may be the better direction for us at this point. I certainly will choose to pay a little more going forward to avoid the potential headaches of allowing USPS to touch any critical deliveries.

Like others here, I am having problems locating two packages from Lithuania that say they were processed at ISC Chicago April 9 and April 16. In a tribute to how well our postal system normally runs, I can attest this has never happened to me before. I completely understand if there are delays under the current circumstances, but not having updates on individual packages or system-wide problems is frustrating after so many weeks. Can anyone provide an update on the functionality of ISC Chicago?

Amy, are there any updates on your packages? Mine from Lithuania is also stuck in Chicago since mid April..

That's an understatement. Mine's been in since early April and it was from South Korea, and I'm not the only one who's missing their packages. I understand that there are some delays, fine, but just keep us updated, you know! At least we know our packages are keeping each other company.

I sent off priority mail from April 18, 2020 that should only take four days maximum to Chicago according to USPS during covid19, today is April 28, 2020 and it has been sitting at the Atlanta distribution center until April 23, 2020 then it’s now sitting at the Chicago hub from the 26th ?? It’s terrible, I should have gotten some warning so that I could have possibly paid more.

I have a package arrived at Des Moines, IA on April 21st, and it should be delivered to me on the 24th. Today (27th), I have not received it yet. When I checked the tracking, its been sitting at this Network Distribution Center location for almost 6 days now. I've been trying to find a number for me to call this facility, but to no avail. I called the Customer Care number, and the hold time is almost 1 hour. Please, all I need to know why my package is still out there and never move. Please email me, so I can provide the tracking number if you need it. I totally understand about the crisis, but almost 1 week no movement...that is so frustrating. Thank you! Tony

I had my registration and license plates mailed out by the DMV on 4/9/20 and it arrived at the regional facility on 4/14. On 4/18 it went to the black hole of "In Transit to Next Facility" where it has remained in no change status for 8 days now. USPS called me and gave me the same reason - with COVID19 there is a shortage of workers and the facility where mail is dropped off for sorting gets overwhelmed by UPS and FEDEX packages as well. This "In Transit to Next Facility" is annoying and provides no help as to what to do next except call and keep waiting.

I’ve experienced something similar. My package was shipped the 22nd. Received a confirmation from Usps that it was delivered to me 28th of April at 1:11pm even though it was the 26th of April on the day that I checked. Called customer care same day to track my package on the phone and it told me that my package was still in a distribution center.Called the merchant that I ordered from and they told me my order was still being processed. It’s all a mess.

Check with all residents/employees to see if someone received it and failed to show it to you. USPS has global verification tracking that shows the exact position where the Postal Employee was standing at time of delivery. Go to the facility that has your zip code and see where they delivered it to.

I had a package sent to me the 9th of April. It is now the 25th. It's been 17 days and I have no idea where my package is. When USPS first got it everything seemed fine with the tracking. It said it was scheduled for delivery the 15th. That day came and nothing at all. The next day the tracking was never updated. I signed up it for the text updates to know asap what's going on and the next day I get a message saying it's in San Francisco California. Why did my package go from Upstate NY literally all the way to the other side of the country?I live in Missouri! And I filed a recovery report the 22nd and they were supposed to contact me about what's going on and nothing. I get the virus is slowing things down but this is unacceptable to not even have to decency to update your customers with any information at all. I'm almost convinced at this point my package was stolen. And it's a $400 collector's item that I cannot replace.

Post office never tells you anything when it comes to safety and wellness issues. They do a standup talk but don't want to follow the directive. I've shipped several packages this week (April 19, 2020), but USPS tracking shows no movement as of April 24th, 2020, 5PM EST. My customers are understanding of delays due to Covid-19, but are starting to become upset with seeing no scans at all, as though the packages disappeared. Can you please confirm if there is a backlog of packages to scan at the Atlanta office, so that we can be confident that at least it's likely our packages are simply backlogged and not lost. Thank you!

    Apr 24, 2020

Yeah theres something going on in the atlanta offices. I had a package sit in a facility for days without the package being accepted. I assumed the package was stolen by an employee. But like 2 weeks later it moved out of the facility without ever being accepted. Kind of weird but at least the package moved.

My father has been waiting for his unemployment card and at it was sent about a few weeks ago. My parents have been watching the mail closely because of theft. They have asked the mail carrier “ Why are they not receiving mail as in the past? “ she said they are not giving us much mail to deliver. My parents went to the post office and it took well over 40 minutes to purchase stamps. There was only 1 employee and as they were in line they noticed huge amounts of mail. I understand we are all taking precautions but mail service is ESSENTIAL and I hope the USPS is not slowing customer service. Thank you kindly for your service !
