The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I mailed two packages to Geneva on Apr. 4. 2020. I got almost no tracking on them online. One arrived a month later, but the other didn't and I am unable to get any information on where it is. The last tracking upadate I got was from April 8, 2020 saying "in transit to next facility 04/08/2020 . I have been to two post offices and been told by one employee that US Customs was holding lots of packages. The second P.O. employee at another office said lots of packages were stuck because of air travel cuts. What is really going on???

Why are you putting blatantly deceitful shipping time frames on your website??? My package has been stuck for weeks now!! Customer service tells me just wait there’s nothing they can do, your phone line does NOT transfer to a person and other customers are being told 30 days delay when your guidelines advertise 3-4!!! Your employees are literally on your usps Facebook page being rude to customers inquiring about their packages. Some of the gems I’ve seen are “moronic complainers” regarding ANYONE LOOKING FOR THEIR PACKAGE a, being told to use ups/fedex for better service, and being called ignorant and told to “use common sense” when referencing the covid delivery delays posted in April by USPS. Absolutely atrocious service and behavior.

Finally my priority mail package left the Detroit distribution center this morning (5/9) after initially arriving there on 4/16. Took 3.5 weeks to get out of Detroit. So the good news is that packages are moving, but be prepared to wait a few weeks. Would be nice if USPS acknowledged on their website that there could be delays for weeks instead of days depending on what distribution center the package is routed to.

    May 09, 2020
  • anon

It's been a week since my package left Detroit, and the status is stuck again in "In Transit". Since there is no "Arrival" scan after the departure from Detroit, I have no idea where it's at... but apparently it's just sitting there (wherever it's at)... hopefully NOT for another 3.5 weeks. So in total it's been almost 6 weeks waiting for a priority mail package from Flint MI to Kansas City MO to be delivered. And this is a guitar - it's not a small package that could have easily been lost. Totally unacceptable - even with the COVID excuse - for a package to take that long to be delivered. I could have pedaled a bicycle to Michigan and back and gotten it quicker.

Seems like anything that’s going through Detroit distribution center is getting slowed down. 3 of my 4 packages went through here. All that did ended up being a week or more delivered late ! No wonder why usps is always crying about money shortages, sub par delivery people remember and go elsewhere for their delivery needs. Everytime I order something now if they ship through usps I won’t order. No I request other means even if I have to pay a little more. Least I know I’ll receive my items

USPS “tracking” has NEVER been up to snuff. As a SELLER I have always shipped UPS-only. But I recently purchased some much needed items from Europe … now 3 weeks in transit. Already. Reading the comments here, I think there is little chance they will arrive soon. Just how bad is US Postal ?? Back in November I bought something via eBay, shipped from FL to me in NJ, and — get this — tracking showed the item going FL to NJ, back to FL, back to NJ, back again to FL (that time all the way back to the originating Post Office!) back to NJ … finally I got it, after more than THREE WEEKS. That was way before Covid-19 even landed in CHINA. Just a miserable way to run a business, USPS.

Could the USPS tell us if they are not delivering to Intenational sites? I have now sent 3 shipments all stuck in NEW YORK at JOHN F KENNEDY INTL, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES on March 29, 2020 This has been stuck here with no ability to find out if it is shipping or not. I have sent another package because this was not delivered and now the 2nd package has been stuck in the same location for 2 weeks. If USPS is not able to handle shipments during this time, please let shippers know.

Hi, Karl. Honestly I would recommend any other shipping method over USPS. They started refusing to deliver packages to my area. All packages end up getting returned to sender. And YOU will end up paying for it. Not good for your business. Some reliable alternatives are UPS and FedEx. Good luck to you!

    May 13, 2020

DO NOT USE United States Postal Service (USPS). You package will NOT BE delivered whatsoever and will be RETURNED TO YOU AT YOUR EXPENSE. Nothing to do with covid. UPS and FEDEX International shipping working perfectly.

I sent out a package, priority mail , to Austria on April 14th and spent $99 to do so. It has been held up in Miami since April 15th. I understand the difficulties and delays due to the Coronavirus, but when I dropped off my package, the USPS employee never indicated that it would not be delivered or that there would be a delay. It has been almost a month and it is still in Miami. PLUS, it cost me $99. So disappointed in the service!!!

I understand that there can be delays but my package was shipped from the US on the 19th of March and still I have not received my package. I am located In Ireland and the sender has sent it tracked. There were 2 packages sent and neither have arrived. Last update on the USPS site was the 19th of March staring processed through the distribution centre. Pleas help!!!

I mail about $23,000 a year with the post office, all media mail boxes. It is taking 3 weeks for boxes to be delivered and I have loads of customers filing chargebacks. Tracking is taking weeks to update. To customers, the boxes are being held forever at the big distribution sorting centers. I understand covid-19 is menacing but we need to do our jobs by pushing and moving things along. It's time to stop moping around and time to start moving boxes fast...............

I know that this pandemic is making everything in our lives more difficult. However I have been waiting for a package that I was informed shipped on the 30th of April with priority mail a week ago today. Furthermore I haven’t received any updates on the tracker for the last two days besides the occasional “in transit”. I sent a customer service request two days ago that was supposed to get a response yesterday but there was nothing and there is still nothing. And I thought I had it bad, there are people on this forum that have been waiting weeks for packages and that is unacceptable. I know this is the biggest first world problem but if you’re going to do something do it right

I know that this pandemic is making every aspect of our lives more challenging but this is just ridiculous. I am still waiting for a package that was shipped with priority mail April 30th and I have not received any updates about it’s status in the last two days other than “in transit”. And I thought I had it bad but there are people in here who have waited weeks for their packages to arrive. I have sent a customer service request two days ago that was supposed to be responded to yesterday and it wasn’t and I still have not gotten a reply.

You understand the situation but are complaining about service. The postal workers are essentially risking their lives working and your complaining. But it’s ok you understand the situation. Grow up, stop complaining.

OK something I've noticed in the tracking. The "Expected delivery date" becomes "In-transit to next facility" and stays in that status for days or weeks. I, like many others here have been waiting on shipments from all over the country and they seem to have been lost in the postal fog....maybe the packages have to be scanned for corona? that was a joke....

Does the USPS have any delivery protocols in place regarding the pandemic? I work in a high rise building where one construction subcontractor reported that he tested positive for Covid-19. The city I work in is not a hot spot. Unbeknownst to either the tenants or building management, the carrier decided on his own not to deliver to our building, or empty the two blue collection boxes. We get a lot of first class mail in, and send a lot out daily. When I noticed we did not have mail for two days, I called the post office. The supervisor told me they would not come back in our building for 14 days! No pick up or delivery and the mail that has been sitting in the collection boxes - too bad. What? Is this standard Covid-19 protocol, or do individual employees make it up as they go along? If it is protocol, where is it posted? By the way, I had to go to the local PO to pick up our mail. The place is disgustingly dirty - looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years, never mind during this pandemic. We are required by statute to mail some things by USPS, but I hope the laws change soon. Congress, please do not bail out the USPS.

I understand the current environment is causing slow/delayed delivery of packages. However, when I am given a delivery date and what I pay is based on that delivery I expect honesty. I paid 70+ dollars and while I had expected “perhaps” (no one at the post office even mentioned it) a couple day delay. I did not expect weeks. If you are having issues on this scale I would appreciate an honest estimate so I can choose to make other arrangements and not waste my money!!

It seems that media mail is not moving in the USPS system. I have 2 packages sent media mail, one from the east coast and 1 from the west coast. Neither has moved for about 13 days, per tracking. Is media mail being set aside for other package deliveries?

    May 07, 2020
  • anon

George, media mail is low priced for a reason. "express mail" is first. "priority" is 2nd- you also get tracking/insurance. "media mail" has no specific time to be delivered. It gets there when it does. And guess what??...ALL media mail can be opened and checked to make sure it "is" media. Media mail is books or educational material, no magazines- these have ads and are not media mail. You paid for the lowest service. If you wanted something to arrive by a specific date, then you pay for it.

I am tracking a package mailed from Martin, Ohio on April 27,2020 to me in Tampa, Florida by expedited mail. Tracking indicates on May 1, that is in tracking to next facility. No further tracking. This is a fairly large package. I am a senior citizen and have been quarantined since the beginning of March and depend on the USPS to survive. I have ordered other products from all over the country without issues but this package per the sender advised is stuck in the Detroit distribution center backup. Please advise what is being done to resolve this problem.

I went to the Pittsburg, Tx post office today to ship a package. The area at the postal clerk's counter is a rather confined area. I was uncomfortable being there. Out of four people: the clerk, two other customers and myself, I was the only one wearing any kind of facial covering. It is my understanding that when I wear a mask I am helping to prevent others from catching Covid-19 should I unknowingly carry it. Shouldn't the USPS be protecting me as well?

    May 07, 2020

You shouldn’t be out. You don’t need to goto the post office to ship something. Everything can be done online. Why can’t people listen. Stay home unless you need to be out.

I have ordered a few things sent by USPS during this pandemic. Every piece seems to start its journey well then the wheels come off. I live inLaingsburg Mi and have tracked a package from Pa. 1st stop Perrysburg Ohio. Next Belleville Mi. Next Perrysburg Ohio. Can your employees read? Very frustrating everything I’ve ordered ends up lost in the Southeast. Apparently I should limit my purchases to the western part of the US.

I understand the COVID-19 issue and prioritizing the important things first, which I think is amazing. However, I'd also like to get updated to make sure my $700 item is ok and not lost. The last I heard about it was Sunday and that my local post office accepted it and that night I got a notification that it's in transit. I've not heard anything since and the place its coming from is only a state away. I'd really like to know where it is at and make sure it is not lost.

I was just told by our local office that all Priority Mail is going by ground at this time, and to expect extensive delays. I can't find any mention of this online and it was not mentioned on either of the two separate occasions this week when I shipped packages by Priority Mail (unfortunately both with very time sensitive contents). A post from April 17th states that Priority Express's 2-3 day window is now 3-4 days, but it sounds like delays are running substantially longer. Can someone please confirm if all priority mail packages are being sent via ground mail? Are other services affected beyond what is described in the post from April 17th? It sounds like that post needs to be updated to reflect the actual widespread extended delays people are experiencing.

I understand that there can be delays during the pandemic. But it's still concerning when I send a package and tracking is not updated for over a week. I sent two packages on April 22nd and one was delivered but the other has absolutely no updates on its tracking information. The label was not scanned once not even for an acceptance scan. I dropped the packages both off at the same time inside the lobby in the blue drop box next to self service at my local USPS. I went to ask about it in person last Saturday, May 2nd, and I was told it may just be delayed and that they always make sure to have all packages sent out. Seeing all the people having similar issues, I realize there are a lot more delays than I initially thought. Still, I'm disappointed that packages are not always scanned in. And some are delivered quickly while others I have no clue where they are. Honestly, I don't know why they don't give all packages at least one scan at the beginning so people know that their package is in USPS's possession. As of today May 6th, the package is still "Pre-Transit" as if it never made it to USPS. After this experience, I will make sure to stand in line from now on to have an acceptance scan for all my packages.

Media mail is absolutely a joke right now. Have packages that say in transit for weeks now especially anything going through Detroit. Hell i could drive there to get it instead if still waiting for stuff to show up. Do your job USPS!

    May 06, 2020
  • anon

How about an update here that speaks to the issues. It appears that the majority of USPS packages are currently delayed, many sitting for 2 weeks at ONE location before getting moving again. UPS & FedEx are not having any where near this kind of issue, what is going on? Our local post office says they are frustrated too, nothing sits for 2 weeks at a local post office. Why pay for 2 day delivery when it is going to take 2 weeks?

I know a lot of people are having big time problems right now so I want to be sympathetic to a certain degree. I have a package that clearly shows on USPS tracking that it arrived at the Detroit MI Network Distribution Center on Tuesday, April 14. It was shipped through Amazon by an individual seller. There is detailed tracking from the seller's shipment date of 4/12/20 through 4/14/20 when it arrived in Detroit. The seller put in a request through the postal service to locate the package and move it along. I was told by the seller yesterday that Amazon won't do anything because technically they say it isn't "lost"; I am left to assume it's just stuck in the process. I've lived in a few places in the US and am a regular priority mail receiver and shipper; I've always believed in the USPS system and am grateful for their service. Then I moved to MIchigan and I have experienced more problems in the couple of years I've lived here than anywhere else in the country. I'm about ready to try UPS or Fed Ex for my regular shipments.

I think most packages are being held on purpose to make it look like USPS needs money from the government during the COVID-19 pandemic. The post office has been losing money for decades. It is their way now to use this pandemic to force public opinion in their favor by holding packages back from being delivered in a timely manner. I have several packages in limbo and don't expect them for a long time, if ever.

100 million people being FORCED to shop online instead of physically, couldn't possibly have anything to do with it. Let's see you run a business that can suddenly handle a 1000% increase in sales with only 80% of your original staff.

The poor quality of delivery service in ABSOLUTELY not caused by the pandemic. I will admit it may have made it worse, but for a year the service has been awful. I continuously get mail in my box the is addressed to another home. I place the mail back in my box and watched the carrier take it out and sort it and the next day the same problem occurs. I do not work for the USPS and am not going to delivery mail for the carrier. It’s not the pandemic is the low standards of the people the USPS is hiring.

Do you have your house number on your box where the delivery person can see? If not then it's hard for someone to know exactly what house you are. This is the case especially if this isn't your regular carrier.

I have a package from Singapore the last tracked April, 22 2020. Its says processed through ISC USPS New York. It is now May 4th and tracking still says the same thing. Is this just due to a back log of packages caused by the Covid-19 pandemic or is my package lost in a USPS black hole?

I too have an international package that's missing in action. 24th it said "processed through isc sanfrancisco" and theres no new info. I totally get that things may be slower but what's the point of paying for faster shipping when it's taking longer than the slow shipping! If things are going to be that slow they should limit the types of shipping to only SLOW ones.

The spit guard that was put up covered maybe 5 inches of the 2 foot counter she worked at. As i see it, a total waste of money. Sould have been much wider. I do have a picture. Her reason for not wearing her mask was that it fogged up her glasses. May i suggest RainX.

I also contacted the seller and ruffled their "tail-feathers" about the package (I feel bad for doing that now, as I've read in this blog). What in the world is going on with the delivery service. Trying to figure out how my first two packages from Australia blue through customs and we're delivered to my front door within a matter of a day, yet a pair of tail lights I ordered around the same time have been sitting in the inspector General's queue for about week? States that it's been processed through inspector General's office, which process through tells me it's been approved and it should be at my door sometime soon, but no updates. This update happened on April 30th... it left Australia on the 24th, I know it doesn't take more than a day or two to get to New York so what's up? Is there a huge massive backlog of items being imported from other countries? I think a little heads up from the inspector General's office letting us know the current situation is definitely needed oh, and not just everyone assuming that they're playing hockey with our packages in the back cuz they're bored
