The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I can somewhat understand the "out of country" delays because every county is handling the COVID issue differently, but I do not understand 2.5 to 3 weeks if at all from California to Colorado. That is If At All. The useless tracking shows in most cases that someone has generated a wirthless tracking number and then nothing further. Frankly, I have run out of sympathy for the USPS as I also am retired, in failing health, and on oxygen and am dependant on many items sent via USPS. Once it disappears into the bowels of the USPS, it just disappears. Why not tell shippers at the counter that you all are in COVID leave and find another way.

I thought I was the only one having issues with international shipping! Guess I can officially join the club now after reading most of these comments. My International Priority Express package was going to Vancouver, BC, Canada from NC. There has been no movement in 7 weeks! It's still stuck at the Miami distribution center. I understand things are slow because of COVID-19 but 7 weeks! Come on now! I should have used Fex Ex or UPS and I will next time. This is crazy!

Same here Nelson, maybe our packages are holidaying together... I haven’t had an update since my parcel arrived at Miami Distribution Centre on the 26th April....

I have several Priorty packages that are late being delivered. It doesn't seem like these packages are a priority to USPS. One was shipped on April 17, 2020. One was shipped April 26, 2020. Both of these show on tracking they haven't moved in over a week. I have another Priority package that was supposed to be here on Monday, May 11, 2020 that still hasn't made it to the local distribution center. Though this one is not as late as the other two, I am not hopeful it will get here in a timely fashion. UPS and FedEx have been much more efficient than USPS even during this pandemic. Really disappointed in USPS, but not surprised really.

Just in case this info helps others, I sent a package to Korea using USPS Priority International on May 1st. I called USPS today, and they told me there are lots of packages backed up in Chicago and it has not left the States yet. My last update was "Departed USPS Regional Facility: CHICAGO IL INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER" and then the usual moving within USPS network message. It's understandable in this never-happened-before situation imo.

I have the same thing: 3 separate packages, all ordered on the 6th of April, all stuck at Chicago ISC and Jamaica, New York ISC. Delivery will take months, not weeks i'm afraid.

Had a package shipped from UK to NYC, when I check tracking on Royal Mail website it says the package is at ISC NY, and when I check USPS website it says the package is at ISC LA. the package is showing 2 different locations and not to mention it hasn't updated since 04/29/2020. has someone experienced this before where international couriers are showing a different status of package then USPS?. If USPS site is correct why is it in ISC LA, not ISC NY because after all the package is NYC bound and its been there more then 2 weeks. so many questions no one to answer them....sigh..

My package was coming from India in March, took its usual route thru Singapore and Germany but tracking died in NYC April 2. I understand the situation in that area, it was especially hard hit with the virus, but I can't get any information from the shipper, postal service, dhl, its just been really frustrating that I'm almost 2 months out from the initial ordering and can't get any information on the whereabouts or status of the package. Hope things get caught up on soon in NYC

    May 14, 2020

Same happened to me. May 3rd Royal Mail said it was in NY ISC, then USPS said it was in Chicago. Then It was in San Jose, a few days later... San Francisco. Point A was the UK and Point B will be DC area. It's crazy, but I think they do this for total system efficiency, plus ISC are likely short-staffed right now. So our packages get to go for "extra-credit" during these times. Being a logistics engineer in the Federal Government likely is not a fully appreciated position. They don't have the funding to make it efficient across decentralized nodes. It's just like our electrical grid.

Had a package shipped back in April showing 4-5 days for delivery. Follow the tracking and it updates to the distribution center normally used before it’s delivered to my address. Shows it to be in “transit may be late”. It’s now in May and it continues to show “in transit to next facility”. If it’s due to COVID-19 I understand but a constant showing of “in transit” is making me curious as to what this means in terms of accurate delivery times for future deliveries.

I ship items I sell on Mercari and have experienced very long shipping time. In several cases, it has taken two plus weeks for 1st Class packages and 5-11 days for 2 and 3 day Priority Mail. Is there a disclosure or statement that explains why USPS has been having delays due to the Covid19? It would be helpful to share this with my customers. Thank You, Lisa Wieck

Sent a pkg out on 4/23 and an envelope out on 4/29. Still have not received to final destination. Have Tried several attempts to contact someone to speak to through the USPS as well as several emails and I am still not getting any response back other than due to COVID-19 no one has still contacted me or emailed saying that they have been looking into finding my packages. And of course I had tracking on both and that has not changed in response time since April 26. Just still in transit. And unfortunately these were family gifts in both packages!!! Anyone out there to help?

Just like others have said, obviously covid complications can cause delays and that's understandable but normally I get my packages within 3-5 days but I have a package that's been stuck for about 3 weeks without any updates at all. There is no way me or anybody else is believing that these delays are slowing you guys down 6x-10x slower or 600%-1,000% slower.. no way.. its like you guys aren't even trying to deliver anymore.. I think if anybody in the united states wanted to wait a month for their package, that's kind of Chinas thing already.. why even buy anything American if it takes just as long as Chinese parcel? That's the only 1 thing America has against chinese is the fact you can get it within a week instead of a month.. I guess there is no point to buy anything from U.S. anymore. Sad.. To the public, I haven't had any delays with U.P.S. or Fedex. Try to use those instead right now if possible. Websites like amazon especially if you use prime will let you choose who carries your package. I used to do this so usps handled all my packages in the pack because UPS and Fedex would for some reason repetitively get lost with different drivers. Just do it the other way around for covid-19, ask amazon support to disable usps shipping on your account. otherwise.. do you really want to wait 30 days just for amazon to process your item to usps then wait another 30 days? you could literally be waiting months for any amazon order right now.

It would be nice if postal clerks would let you know you are wasting money right now sending packages to Canada via International Express Mail during this time. It is a waste of money. They give you a date knowing good and well will be well past that date like weeks or months during this time. I could have save money by just sending it without using international priority express! I have learned my lesson also my wallet has learned it's lesson. That is $70.00 just wasted.

Its completely understandable for the USPS to be experiencing delays, what isn't understandable is why they aren't being more honest about the length of delays they are experiencing and what parts of the country are being affected the most. Please provide a more accurate assessment of the ongoing delays.

This is the first time I've ever had a package sent from overseas sit in NY customs for a full month. My mom has ordered and received two packages from the same country in the time that mine has sat in customs, just useless. I understand their being some delays but I just wish I knew whether my package was just sitting underneath some sorting machine or whether it's actually making progress. We don't even get the GD customs scans anymore. Can you guys please do your job? Thanks.

I've run a small on-line business from my home for the last 7+ years. USPS is critical for getting packages to my customers. I understand that the pandemic has negative impacts that include delays. My first issue is: if centers are closed or severely impacted (as the USPS customer care person indicated when I called regarding two open cases), why does mail continue to be sent to those centers. Your claim that USPS "have adapted our operations to maintain continuity" does not ring true. The customer service person told me that some centers were closed and in those cases mail was stacking up. I specifically asked why not send mail to centers that were not closed and was told that wasn't done. My second issue is tracking. I've turned tracking on for two delayed packages (out of the dozen or so that are delayed. The tracking emails have indicated that the package arrived at the Detroit Regional Distribution Center (several days after being picked up), then that it has left and is in transit to the next facility and then that it is on schedule for delivery on a particular date and then that it will be late and then that it has arrived at the Detroit Regional Distribution Center. Either the tracking is seriously flawed or intentionally dishonest or packages bounce back and forth. I want tracking with integrity so that I can provide honest updates to my customers and make business decisions about whether to continue accepting orders. In the last two conversations I've had with USPS employees they've essentially said that tracking is a series of automated updates which may or may not reflect the status of a particular package. I too am experiencing huge delays with USPS, I get things are a bit crazy now, but it would be nice to usps to at least reach out to tell me to expect delays on all items I paid to get/send. Instead, a slew of people are going to have to explain to their customers on behalf of usps why things are taking record breaking amounts of time. I get if you need extra time, especially right now. But not responding to a claim, sending a “heads up, everything’s going to be late” message, or even bothering to try and meet deadlines, is unacceptable. I feel bad for everyone who’s waiting for critical supplies during this time. Hang in there!

Mail service is getting worse every day. We used to get our mail around 10:30 AM now it doesn’t arrive until after 1:00 PM. I retired from the PO. I think what has really slowed things down is the tracking system. It reminds me of handling registered mail which had to be signed for every step of the way. It just made for slower processing. Now every little package I receive has a tracking number on it. I’ve been waiting for an order that had a scheduled delivery date of May 6. On May 7th it was scanned in San Francisco. As of today, May 10th it is still in SF. What’s going on?

I had a sculpture shipped internationally from the UK and it sat in Chicago for nearly 2 weeks now. I checked the tracking info and it shows that my package was just sorted through a Spokane, WA facility yesterday....the package was addressed to my home in Michigan. Why was it sent to WA? It sounds like the USPS has been having these issues long before the pandemic hit the US. How many unsatisfied customers do you need before changes are made?

I totally get there's plenty of life delays thanks to COVID. But if they know this... and clearly they do... then it's up to THEM to clearly relay this to people. I sent something to a town less than 5 hours away and have gotten pitiful updates without current information since the start several days ago. The delivery day passed and it still says the old delivery date. I think what USPS is doing right now is incredibly deceitful. The website says that some things are delayed by a day, a day guys. Yet looking at posts here, there's people waiting weeks to get things delivered. So first they don't tell people (even those of us sending PERISHABLE items that we alert them to) about the delays, they don't lower the rates to compensate for NOT DELIVERING as they're supposed to, and then they act like we're stupid for not understanding that gee whiz COVID makes things move a little slower. I think I should've just driven the package myself, at least it wouldn't have gone stale by the time it arrived. Wow, USPS, get your stuff together. Honesty isn't that hard, but it sure would be appreciated by MILLIONS of people at this point, good lord.

Priority mail flat rate shipped on 5/1 at noon, SantaFe Springs, CA, departed 5/1 at 10:32PM City of Industry, CA, regional shipping center, Last update was 5/5 ..... In Transit to Next Facility. Original expected receipt date here near Albany NY was 5/4. I have not dea where the Next Facility is or when it might arrive there ... only to be sent to yet the 'Next Facility'. I understand the stress on the system with COVID19 but we need better transparency. When a message appears in my email within 30 minutes of the time a tracked USPS package appears in my rural letter box, surely we can do a much better job of tracking enroute ????

My international packages arrived in the US from china at various times in early March 2020 before most of the Covid policies went into effect and have not moved since. I understand that there are issues with international shipments due to the virus, however my packages were already in customs before the virus was ruled a pandemic, so how do I get my items, which were intended for business this week and is now ruined. I know the items are in the US, I just need them delivered. They have already cleared customs, so it is all waiting on USPS. For over a month now. Items ordered since have been delivered, so I am just seeking some sort of statement regarding delivery delays and I do not see anything of the sort on usps.com.
