The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

Does the current operating policy of the USPS (as of 5/15/2020) MANDATE that any customer coming into the lobby of its Post Offices in central NY are REQUIRED to wear a mask to receive service? Even if the customer had a medical condition where they should NOT wear mask? Also, they had wrapped a number of pens with packing tape in a cup for customers to use.... My recent experience (at a post office): My favorite so far has been the pens at the post office that they wrapped in tape at the ends... I would certainly hope they realize that they just: 1) increased the actual surface area of the pen for any germs/virus that may be transferred 2) now made it almost impossible to properly disinfect those pens anyway 3) and if so worried about transmission, how come there is no hand sanitizer out to encourage patrons to clean between transactions when using those pens, or the touch screen/stylus???

Hello everyone! Does anyone know how to contact USPS directly? The complaint form result in nothing. I got only a general answer with absolute zero help. Does anybody know a phone number to call? I have problem with international shipping to Europe. My package's status haven't changed since 15th of April, although there are some official report regarding two ship arrives to Europe, one at 7th of May other at 15th of May. I'm living in Central Europe, but I'm not used to this kind of service even here... I was very patient up to now, but this is getting way too much. Thank you in advance for any kind of help!

USPS is worse then 3rd world mail service. Its been getting complaints for many years. Its worse then ever now, but it has always been rotten. And they get paid very well for being complete losers.

Most mail and packages from overseas pass through cities that have been hit hard by Covid. These same items do most of their intercontinental and interstate travel by commercial flights and contract trucking companies that has also bee hit hard by Covid lockdowns. Delays are to be expected. Unlike FedEx or UPS, I believe USPS has to charge the same rate no matter how far the letter or package has to travel so they are forced to use these cheaper, non dedicated methods of shipment.

I don’t know about all that..I ship regularly enough. I pay $3 just to ship earrings. And, I paid $8 for a 12 oz package to be shipped out by USPS. I just received a 14 lb package delivered by FedEx which cost only 15.42! I take frequent trips to the post office and it is always 30 minutes to an hour wait just to get to the window. Line so long that social distancing is not possible. Plus, the mask with no fan or air blowing makes me feel like I’m dying! I fall asleep when I get home from lack of oxygen. I have almost 80 packages in the mail somewhere and who knows if I will receive them; much less when. They will scan items delivered just to make their on-time delivery goals. They will also give info that they delivered to customer in hand when it is delivered to box or put in hallway. I would be begging old employees to come back and help with this crisis. They get a new postmaster general on June 15. He is walking into a nightmare with no postal experience. The only government agency mentioned in the constitution and supposedly we are to be voting and mailing in census info during this mess. I like my carrier but I don’t see what you see...

I live and work in Eagle Colorado and have not received vital to life services during this pandemic bc our post last has enforced a change that I was not made aware of in my post office box. I am without my stimulus, food/ nutrition assistance, unemployment card service as well as 2 other cash/ debit cards that I applied for in order to ride this pandemic out. I have lost all faith in this service

Look at what's happening in the world! Everyone needs to relax breathe and be thankful they are alive and healthy. We've shut down our eBay till after covid-19 calms down it's like dealing with a bunch of five-year-olds. I've got $14,000 in Goods that's delayed 5 weeks I realize we're in the world pandemic and I have to deal with it. You all probably paid with credit card or PayPal or something similar. So long and short of it is you have nothing to worry about. Don't sweat the small stuff Life's too short. Be kind to your neighbors,Be helpful be patient and relax!

Its not small to me, and paypal doesn't mean the money isn't spent. And Ebay only gives us one month after the expected date to file a claim. Personally, I am very worried about not getting what I paid for in this economy, and so should any sane person be. If you want to worry about this flu, that is your right, but I don't like being robbed of things that are rightfully mine. I work very hard for my money, and even if I get it back, I still don't have either money or item until the crooks at USPS either admit they lost or stole my items, or else deliver them.

It seems like everyone has started to ask the same questions starting yesterday. I was happy a couple of weeks ago when everyone but Amazon was delivering on time. Now it's the opposite way around. I don't trust this at all...

Why are delays in international receipt of packages by usps when you have stopped sending and receiving mail from over 60% of the countries you usually send and receive? You have less work but more delays in customs

This blog was begun on April 8. The OIG moderator responded to several persons and on April 15 began replying with "Hello. Thank you for your comment. For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or to get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page." AFAIK, since April 24 there have not been any more responses from OIG moderator, just many persons complaining about the service they are receiving from USPS. We all know that going to usps.com to track mail or going to the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page gives no useful information regarding the packages that are "in transit" at distribution centers. So what is the purpose of this blog? This is not sarcasm nor intended to slight any USPS employee.

Hello, Augustine. Thank you for your comment. We are an independent agency of the Postal Service and unfortunately can't help with delayed mail or packages. For lost or delayed mail or questions regarding delivery during the pandemic, we recommend filing a complaint directly with the Postal Service.

I can somewhat understand the "out of country" delays because every county is handling the COVID issue differently, but I do not understand 2.5 to 3 weeks if at all from California to Colorado. That is If At All. The useless tracking shows in most cases that someone has generated a wirthless tracking number and then nothing further. Frankly, I have run out of sympathy for the USPS as I also am retired, in failing health, and on oxygen and am dependant on many items sent via USPS. Once it disappears into the bowels of the USPS, it just disappears. Why not tell shippers at the counter that you all are in COVID leave and find another way.

I thought I was the only one having issues with international shipping! Guess I can officially join the club now after reading most of these comments. My International Priority Express package was going to Vancouver, BC, Canada from NC. There has been no movement in 7 weeks! It's still stuck at the Miami distribution center. I understand things are slow because of COVID-19 but 7 weeks! Come on now! I should have used Fex Ex or UPS and I will next time. This is crazy!

Same here Nelson, maybe our packages are holidaying together... I haven’t had an update since my parcel arrived at Miami Distribution Centre on the 26th April....

I have several Priorty packages that are late being delivered. It doesn't seem like these packages are a priority to USPS. One was shipped on April 17, 2020. One was shipped April 26, 2020. Both of these show on tracking they haven't moved in over a week. I have another Priority package that was supposed to be here on Monday, May 11, 2020 that still hasn't made it to the local distribution center. Though this one is not as late as the other two, I am not hopeful it will get here in a timely fashion. UPS and FedEx have been much more efficient than USPS even during this pandemic. Really disappointed in USPS, but not surprised really.

Just in case this info helps others, I sent a package to Korea using USPS Priority International on May 1st. I called USPS today, and they told me there are lots of packages backed up in Chicago and it has not left the States yet. My last update was "Departed USPS Regional Facility: CHICAGO IL INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER" and then the usual moving within USPS network message. It's understandable in this never-happened-before situation imo.

I have the same thing: 3 separate packages, all ordered on the 6th of April, all stuck at Chicago ISC and Jamaica, New York ISC. Delivery will take months, not weeks i'm afraid.

Had a package shipped from UK to NYC, when I check tracking on Royal Mail website it says the package is at ISC NY, and when I check USPS website it says the package is at ISC LA. the package is showing 2 different locations and not to mention it hasn't updated since 04/29/2020. has someone experienced this before where international couriers are showing a different status of package then USPS?. If USPS site is correct why is it in ISC LA, not ISC NY because after all the package is NYC bound and its been there more then 2 weeks. so many questions no one to answer them....sigh..

My package was coming from India in March, took its usual route thru Singapore and Germany but tracking died in NYC April 2. I understand the situation in that area, it was especially hard hit with the virus, but I can't get any information from the shipper, postal service, dhl, its just been really frustrating that I'm almost 2 months out from the initial ordering and can't get any information on the whereabouts or status of the package. Hope things get caught up on soon in NYC

    May 14, 2020
  • anon

Same happened to me. May 3rd Royal Mail said it was in NY ISC, then USPS said it was in Chicago. Then It was in San Jose, a few days later... San Francisco. Point A was the UK and Point B will be DC area. It's crazy, but I think they do this for total system efficiency, plus ISC are likely short-staffed right now. So our packages get to go for "extra-credit" during these times. Being a logistics engineer in the Federal Government likely is not a fully appreciated position. They don't have the funding to make it efficient across decentralized nodes. It's just like our electrical grid.

Had a package shipped back in April showing 4-5 days for delivery. Follow the tracking and it updates to the distribution center normally used before it’s delivered to my address. Shows it to be in “transit may be late”. It’s now in May and it continues to show “in transit to next facility”. If it’s due to COVID-19 I understand but a constant showing of “in transit” is making me curious as to what this means in terms of accurate delivery times for future deliveries.

I ship items I sell on Mercari and have experienced very long shipping time. In several cases, it has taken two plus weeks for 1st Class packages and 5-11 days for 2 and 3 day Priority Mail. Sent a pkg out on 4/23 and an envelope out on 4/29. Still have not received to final destination. Have Tried several attempts to contact someone to speak to through the USPS as well as several emails and I am still not getting any response back other than due to COVID-19 no one has still contacted me or emailed saying that they have been looking into finding my packages. And of course I had tracking on both and that has not changed in response time since April 26. Just still in transit. And unfortunately these were family gifts in both packages!!! May 13, 2020

Just like others have said, obviously covid complications can cause delays and that's understandable but normally I get my packages within 3-5 days but I have a package that's been stuck for about 3 weeks without any updates at all. There is no way me or anybody else is believing that these delays are slowing you guys down 6x-10x slower or 600%-1,000% slower.. no way.. its like you guys aren't even trying to deliver anymore.. I think if anybody in the united states wanted to wait a month for their package, that's kind of Chinas thing already.. why even buy anything American if it takes just as long as Chinese parcel? That's the only 1 thing America has against chinese is the fact you can get it within a week instead of a month.. I guess there is no point to buy anything from U.S. anymore. Sad.. To the public, I haven't had any delays with U.P.S. or Fedex. Try to use those instead right now if possible. Websites like amazon especially if you use prime will let you choose who carries your package. I used to do this so usps handled all my packages in the pack because UPS and Fedex would for some reason repetitively get lost with different drivers. Just do it the other way around for covid-19, ask amazon support to disable usps shipping on your account. otherwise.. do you really want to wait 30 days just for amazon to process your item to usps then wait another 30 days? you could literally be waiting months for any amazon order right now.

It would be nice if postal clerks would let you know you are wasting money right now sending packages to Canada via International Express Mail during this time. It is a waste of money. They give you a date knowing good and well will be well past that date like weeks or months during this time. I could have save money by just sending it without using international priority express! I have learned my lesson also my wallet has learned it's lesson. That is $70.00 just wasted.

    May 12, 2020

Its completely understandable for the USPS to be experiencing delays, what isn't understandable is why they aren't being more honest about the length of delays they are experiencing and what parts of the country are being affected the most. Please provide a more accurate assessment of the ongoing delays.
