The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

Our agency purchases Return Receipt Request for proof of delivery of official legal documents. During the past month we have received RRR which have NOT been signed by the receiving party and both are now claiming the delivery was not made. Are signatures NOT being required during the pandemic?

Hey, I have a package stuck in NYC since the 25th of march, going to Iceland. Do any of you knows about the delays from US to European countries ?

I’ve had my package there since the 18th of March going to Australia and no updates. I’m really hoping they are just backlogged and not losing mail.

You have not responded to the questions regarding the ridiculous delays in Chicago; PLEASE RESPOND to the QUESTION about CHICAGO's BACKLOG. My parcels from DK have been stuck there since April 28 & May 5.

Hi. I’ve been waiting now for two packages. The first reached Chicago ISC on the 8th of May. Here it is the 29th and it’s still “Inbound to Customs.” The second package well, the same thing. This one says it’s “In Transit” which ultimately I got super excited. All for nothing. I just found out it’s still sitting at ISC NY. Apparently, it looks like we’re all going through the same thing. I’m guessing my package is really not in transit, and is just stuck waiting for a customs clearance. Very frustrating to say the least. I do however have sympathy for the postal workers and customs agents. I can’t imagine the overwhelming amount of parcels coming in and out everyday. I hope we all get what we’ve been waiting for sooner then later.

During this difficult times, I can appreciate the challenges. However, when I track my package, mailed to Ireland in late April 2020, the information is confusing and implies that my item left the country on May 2nd. The Irish mail service, An Post and the Irish Customs Service had to tell me that “ it ain’t necessarily so” as the package has yet to show up in this country and that they ALSO have an issue with this wording. It would have been so useful (and less time confusing) to be given the correct information, ie that the item is held up at the airport. I would be grateful if you would reach out to me and resolve as these are important medications, sent in error first class mail rather than express.

My package sent from Southern California to Hungary (Europe) with birthday gifts for family has been stuck at LAX International Service Center since April 17th. I paid $100+ for shipping. I do understand that the pandemic is slowing things down, but this is extreme. I am not able to get any additional information about the status of the package or pick up options to use an alternate shipping method. Why is USPS accepting mail if it can't process and deliver shipments?

I paid $247 to ship birthday present to.my mom, since our trip to suprise her on her 70th Birthday was cancel in March. I shipped it on March 18th. It was sitting in California over a month, now still in transit in Jamaica International distribution center no update. It did suppose to take only 8-10 days. Horrible situation.

This is UNACCEPTABLE!!! It took TEN DAYS for a package to arrive from the UK!! I still have to get MY work done on time during COVID-19!

You are lucky you got yours. I've ordered a package which was delivered and pick up at Jamacia Ny on April 29. Now its May 27 and I'm still waiting. No movement, no update, and I paid over $30 for express shipping for a wait this long. But FedEx and UPS shipments came with in 5-7 day.

You're complaining about getting a package after ten days? Ten days is literally nothing, and at least you got a package delivered.

My package from LA to Canada has been stuck at "in transit to next destination" since April 28th. It was last scanned at the distribution centre in LA. What are the chances of my package being "lost" vs. covid delay. I'm fine with a delay as long as I can have piece of mind that it will eventually make it to me.

It's distressing and disturbing reading a lot of the comments here. Everyone here that is calling to end the USPS is going to feel really stupid when Fed Ex or DHL gets the no-bid contract and the cost of shipping *everything* goes up because now we are beholden to a publicly traded company that cares about nothing but profit. It's amazing to me what people in this country can take for granted. It's not good enough that you can put a piece of paper in a box, affix ~$0.40 sticker to it, and someone will literally take it from Vermont to New Mexico in like 3 days... I mean how are people not still continuously impressed by what the USPS has been able to accomplish on a shoestring budget that gets thinner and thinner every year? Does anyone actually think these private companies will be able to do what the USPS does (in normal times, not during a global pandemic) at anywhere NEAR that price point? They literally cannot. My guess is that the idiot politicians who have been "starving the beast" for decades now, trying to kill the USPS by slowly bleeding it (and taking advantage of a worldwide pandemic to deal the death blow) will actually start subsidizing these corporations in order to have shipping fees reduced to a level that would be comparable to that of a government agency with no profit-incentive. Meaning: we will be paying *far more* for our delivery services, but it will be through our taxes. The shipping rates will remain about the same, so people like yourself who probably don't care enough about this stuff will think it costs the same, while in reality we will be bleeding billions of dollars a year in subsidies just to keep the illusion alive. And you know what? You people will fall for it while your future kids and grandkids foot the bill. That's the depressing part. Unable to see the decades-long efforts to destroy this agency and immediately buying into the privatization lie. The "all regulation is bad" lie. The "government cannot fix the problem, government IS the problem," lie. Meanwhile, you're paying the difference out of your taxes and that money goes to pay the Executives of these massive corporations.

Are there extreme delays at your ISC facility in Chicago? I had a package arrive there from Denmark on May 6th and it has not moved from that location since. Is there a shortage of staff or delays in customs due to covid 19. Packages that would normally take 6-10 days to arrive from denmark i have now waited 6 weeks for with no indication it has moved passed the chicago receiving facility.

    May 24, 2020
  • anon

This could be barely part of the COVID situation. I had a package from denmark delayed that long in the middle of last summer just because thats the inefficient way customs works. You can look up a report of the problems going on there, but almost all the information is redacted.

Read a lot about delays in the Chicago area of late, ordered a package from Illinois to Québec (Canada) around 5/08/2020 hasn't moved in two weeks. A global pandemic can surely cause many disruptions in services, but I believe in "adapt, improvise, overcome" maybe providing users a "parcel queue" for processing of sorts could appease the masses and avoid losses: both logistically and financially. Just a thought.

Agree. I have a needed package in ISC Chicago since May 9. Very distressing. I feel like I’m living in a third world country. How are we not able to do at least a little better than this?

I would like to know what I can do about my local post office withholding mail. I for medical reasons can not wear a face mask, I was told I can no longer go to the post office and get my mail. We do not have a way for home service, I have to go in for my mail. They told me not to return without a mask on. That is NOT ok, it is also a federal crime to withhold my mail.

Hello, I'd like to say thank you to all the USPS workers for working in this difficult time. I mailed a priority mail package on April 28th from Chicago to Germany. I was told it would take 6-10 days no doubt. Now with the virus I understand there may be even a longer delivery time. I need my package to arrive there by June 9th. I filed a claim and was even told by USPS agents on the phone that my package will definitely arrive before June 9th. I guess all I'm asking is reassurance and is is still realistic for me to have hope that it will arrive before June 9th? Thank you.

Hello I filed a claim for my package because I'm pretty sure its been lost. It was processed through the USPS facility ISC in New York on 5/11/2020 at 1:55 PM. It's still there. I cant get anyone to respond back to let me know what's going on with it. I know Covid 19 is causing problems but I've recieved other packages during this time without any problems. Can someone please reply back with an update?

Wendy relax. It’s normal. It could take 20 more days. Customs hands it off to the USPS and they have 21 days to get it to u. Plus the pandemic. It’s more common than u think.

I'd like to thank USPS employees first as these are unprecedented times. Many things are shipping slower than normal unfortunately it is the times we live in. We use FedEx at my job and it's been extremely slow as well. Volume is higher than normal as people are staying home. We need to be grateful for those putting themselves out there every day. Thanks again

Yeah, how heroic of them. Its easy to say when its your work, and not your personal money. Youre not the one being robbed, and its not delays, its taking something someone else paid for, and never giving it to them. Its theft. Obviously, my packages are not going to suddenly just show up after three months. These people are thieves. They are taking this stuff and keeping it.

    May 23, 2020
  • anon

It Is Theft. It is Wrong. In my case, it affects a project for work, and money. One package cost $400 + expedited shipping! One has been since May3rd, one since mid April. And, no one has a clue. I literally took screen shots of the different transit info! It has “arrived and has been out for delivery 3 times”, then says it is in a dif city to you name it! Thievery comes to mind.

Hi there! I'd like to thank all the postal workers for doing their bests during these trying times. I have been reading the comments to feel less alone in my dilemma. I mailed out my package from Detroit to Croatia on 4/3 and received updates until 4/7, "In Transit to the Next Facility." I called Customer Service and they informed me that the package has left the U.S. and there's nothing they can do. I have to contact the Croatian Post Office, in which I'm trying to file a complaint. I simply want to know that it is not lost. I assume it's stuck in Customs like the packages of so many others. Is there anyone else here who has shipped packages to Croatia (or neighboring nations)? What is your experience? My package has to be returned to me after (the recipient is repairing my item), so my question is... does anyone know a faster, easier way to ship international besides USPS? I'll pay however much (although I've noticed from the comments it may have no difference). Thank you all so much, please stay strong, we will get through this.

    May 21, 2020

Yeah, I sent a package to Poland on April 14th and has been "In Transit..." since April 17th. I have no answer. I too would just like to know the package isn't lost. However, when I called USPS, they could not provide me any information. Hope your package arrives soon.

    May 25, 2020

I think I can help with at least part of your question! I ordered a small package from Croatia to the US (North East) at the end of April.... Initially the seller had claimed that Croatia was only sending/receiving packages from the EU, however on May 3rd she was able to send it out. On May 5th my package status was Origin Post Preparing shipment..... and on the Croatia tracking site it said "placed in bag" Whatever that means. Absolutely nothing happened or changed in my tracking status until May 21st. Now its saying arrived in ISC New York, which could mean it sits there for another week, as that's happened to my international packages a few times in the past few months (Spain took 45 days). At least it's in the States. Don't lose faith yet, as insanely slow as it's been, your package will likely get back to you within a month. Hopefully that helps a little, I know how frustrating trying to find answers is right now!!

As much as I don’t want to complain, try therefore I am going to thank all the USPS employees. But if USPS is given large sum of money to operate, why not satisfy the customers? It is ridiculous how slow USPS is operating. It is taking month for delivery. Our packages are stuck in one place for over a month. Please do better and thank you for your service

I had an extremely important package coming to me form Mississippi to Hawaii, priority mail, it was sent out on the 4th of May, the expected date was 20th of May. Fine since Covid-19 I give it some patient, but my package has been departed from San Francisco distribution center for more than 10 days without updates, and now it is arriving late? what's going on man? At least give me an update! We as customers giving all our trust to you guys shouldn't have to worry about stuff like that!

I ordered an item on April 23rd for my son's birthday. It was supposed to arrive on May 6th. When it did not arrive that day or the next I tracked the order. Tracking showed "Shipment received acceptance pending CHESTER, NY" on April 27th. So, for 23 days it has not changed and my shipment is just waiting on acceptance? I understand that there is a lot going on in NY right now but I have had other orders come through there as well in recent days. We are in TN and my son's birthday is in 5 days. Is my small package just sitting in a corner somewhere because it is being overlooked? That is the feeling I am getting.

I have the same issue I have 3 packages stuck at 3 different post offices in NY with that same tracking description- 1 of the packages has been like that for almost a month! It’s crazy. It would be nice to get our packages soon... curious as to what is taking so long
