The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I know this is troubling times, but I have waited almost 5 weeks and I have yet to receive my package. My order has been shipped since April 1st, 2020 but I have not received my product till now. I understand there is a pandemic going on, but to not even receive an update from USPS is beyond me. It is taking way too long. Please help resolve this.

It would be nice if postal clerks would let you know you are wasting money right now sending packages to Canada via International Express Mail during this time. It is a waste of money. They give you a date knowing good and well will be well past that date like weeks or months during this time. I could have save money by just sending it without using international priority express! I have learned my lesson also my wallet has learned it's lesson. That is $70.00 just wasted.

Its completely understandable for the USPS to be experiencing delays, what isn't understandable is why they aren't being more honest about the length of delays they are experiencing and what parts of the country are being affected the most. Please provide a more accurate assessment of the ongoing delays.

I have two packages showing shipped almost two weeks ago from different locations (CA and NV). I live in CT. Both are sitting in the Springfield MA sorting facility, one for 11 days now. I have filed missing package reports but not received any updates, and shippers are not reimbursing due to apparent USPS errors. Please fix whatever kind of delay is going on in MA.. I understand the current situation, but my money is my money and my time is money, so please address this..thanks.

This is the first time I've ever had a package sent from overseas sit in NY customs for a full month. My mom has ordered and received two packages from the same country in the time that mine has sat in customs, just useless. I understand their being some delays but I just wish I knew whether my package was just sitting underneath some sorting machine or whether it's actually making progress. We don't even get the GD customs scans anymore. Can you guys please do your job? Thanks.

This is for the review were of this message. I love at the end how you guys say you were going to review the topic and if it has anything to do with Miss handled mail or stuff like that that you will not post it. I've run a small on-line business from my home for the last 7+ years. USPS is critical for getting packages to my customers. I understand that the pandemic has negative impacts that include delays. My first issue is: if centers are closed or severely impacted (as the USPS customer care person indicated when I called regarding two open cases), why does mail continue to be sent to those centers. Your claim that USPS "have adapted our operations to maintain continuity" does not ring true. The customer service person told me that some centers were closed and in those cases mail was stacking up. I specifically asked why not send mail to centers that were not closed and was told that wasn't done. My second issue is tracking. I've turned tracking on for two delayed packages (out of the dozen or so that are delayed. The tracking emails have indicated that the package arrived at the Detroit Regional Distribution Center (several days after being picked up), then that it has left and is in transit to the next facility and then that it is on schedule for delivery on a particular date and then that it will be late and then that it has arrived at the Detroit Regional Distribution Center. Either the tracking is seriously flawed or intentionally dishonest or packages bounce back and forth. I want tracking with integrity so that I can provide honest updates to my customers and make business decisions about whether to continue accepting orders. In the last two conversations I've had with USPS employees they've essentially said that tracking is a series of automated updates which may or may not reflect the status of a particular package. I too am experiencing huge delays with USPS, I get things are a bit crazy now, but it would be nice to usps to at least reach out to tell me to expect delays on all items I paid to get/send. Instead, a slew of people are going to have to explain to their customers on behalf of usps why things are taking record breaking amounts of time. I get if you need extra time, especially right now. But not responding to a claim, sending a “heads up, everything’s going to be late” message, or even bothering to try and meet deadlines, is unacceptable. I feel bad for everyone who’s waiting for critical supplies during this time. Hang in there!

Mail service is getting worse every day. We used to get our mail around 10:30 AM now it doesn’t arrive until after 1:00 PM. I retired from the PO. I think what has really slowed things down is the tracking system. It reminds me of handling registered mail which had to be signed for every step of the way. It just made for slower processing. Now every little package I receive has a tracking number on it. I’ve been waiting for an order that had a scheduled delivery date of May 6. On May 7th it was scanned in San Francisco. As of today, May 10th it is still in SF. What’s going on?

I had a sculpture shipped internationally from the UK and it sat in Chicago for nearly 2 weeks now. I checked the tracking info and it shows that my package was just sorted through a Spokane, WA facility yesterday....the package was addressed to my home in Michigan. Why was it sent to WA? It sounds like the USPS has been having these issues long before the pandemic hit the US. How many unsatisfied customers do you need before changes are made?

I totally get there's plenty of life delays thanks to COVID. But if they know this... and clearly they do... then it's up to THEM to clearly relay this to people. I sent something to a town less than 5 hours away and have gotten pitiful updates without current information since the start several days ago. The delivery day passed and it still says the old delivery date. I think what USPS is doing right now is incredibly deceitful. The website says that some things are delayed by a day, a day guys. Yet looking at posts here, there's people waiting weeks to get things delivered. So first they don't tell people (even those of us sending PERISHABLE items that we alert them to) about the delays, they don't lower the rates to compensate for NOT DELIVERING as they're supposed to, and then they act like we're stupid for not understanding that gee whiz COVID makes things move a little slower. I think I should've just driven the package myself, at least it wouldn't have gone stale by the time it arrived. Wow, USPS, get your stuff together. Honesty isn't that hard, but it sure would be appreciated by MILLIONS of people at this point, good lord.

Priority mail flat rate shipped on 5/1 at noon, SantaFe Springs, CA, departed 5/1 at 10:32PM City of Industry, CA, regional shipping center, Last update was 5/5 ..... In Transit to Next Facility. Original expected receipt date here near Albany NY was 5/4. I have not dea where the Next Facility is or when it might arrive there ... only to be sent to yet the 'Next Facility'. I understand the stress on the system with COVID19 but we need better transparency. When a message appears in my email within 30 minutes of the time a tracked USPS package appears in my rural letter box, surely we can do a much better job of tracking enroute ????

My international packages arrived in the US from china at various times in early March 2020 before most of the Covid policies went into effect and have not moved since. I understand that there are issues with international shipments due to the virus, however my packages were already in customs before the virus was ruled a pandemic, so how do I get my items, which were intended for business this week and is now ruined. I know the items are in the US, I just need them delivered. They have already cleared customs, so it is all waiting on USPS. For over a month now. Items ordered since have been delivered, so I am just seeking some sort of statement regarding delivery delays and I do not see anything of the sort on usps.com.

I mailed two packages to Geneva on Apr. 4. 2020. I got almost no tracking on them online. One arrived a month later, but the other didn't and I am unable to get any information on where it is. The last tracking upadate I got was from April 8, 2020 saying "in transit to next facility 04/08/2020 . I have been to two post offices and been told by one employee that US Customs was holding lots of packages. The second P.O. employee at another office said lots of packages were stuck because of air travel cuts. What is really going on???

Why are you putting blatantly deceitful shipping time frames on your website??? My package has been stuck for weeks now!! Customer service tells me just wait there’s nothing they can do, your phone line does NOT transfer to a person and other customers are being told 30 days delay when your guidelines advertise 3-4!!! Your employees are literally on your usps Facebook page being rude to customers inquiring about their packages. Some of the gems I’ve seen are “moronic complainers” regarding ANYONE LOOKING FOR THEIR PACKAGE a, being told to use ups/fedex for better service, and being called ignorant and told to “use common sense” when referencing the covid delivery delays posted in April by USPS. Absolutely atrocious service and behavior.

Finally my priority mail package left the Detroit distribution center this morning (5/9) after initially arriving there on 4/16. Took 3.5 weeks to get out of Detroit. So the good news is that packages are moving, but be prepared to wait a few weeks. Would be nice if USPS acknowledged on their website that there could be delays for weeks instead of days depending on what distribution center the package is routed to.

    May 09, 2020
  • anon

It's been a week since my package left Detroit, and the status is stuck again in "In Transit". Since there is no "Arrival" scan after the departure from Detroit, I have no idea where it's at... but apparently it's just sitting there (wherever it's at)... hopefully NOT for another 3.5 weeks. So in total it's been almost 6 weeks waiting for a priority mail package from Flint MI to Kansas City MO to be delivered. And this is a guitar - it's not a small package that could have easily been lost. Totally unacceptable - even with the COVID excuse - for a package to take that long to be delivered. I could have pedaled a bicycle to Michigan and back and gotten it quicker.

Seems like anything that’s going through Detroit distribution center is getting slowed down. 3 of my 4 packages went through here. All that did ended up being a week or more delivered late ! No wonder why usps is always crying about money shortages, sub par delivery people remember and go elsewhere for their delivery needs. Everytime I order something now if they ship through usps I won’t order. No I request other means even if I have to pay a little more. Least I know I’ll receive my items

USPS “tracking” has NEVER been up to snuff. As a SELLER I have always shipped UPS-only. But I recently purchased some much needed items from Europe … now 3 weeks in transit. Already. Reading the comments here, I think there is little chance they will arrive soon. Just how bad is US Postal ?? Back in November I bought something via eBay, shipped from FL to me in NJ, and — get this — tracking showed the item going FL to NJ, back to FL, back to NJ, back again to FL (that time all the way back to the originating Post Office!) back to NJ … finally I got it, after more than THREE WEEKS. That was way before Covid-19 even landed in CHINA. Just a miserable way to run a business, USPS.

I have now sent 3 shipments all stuck in NEW YORK at JOHN F KENNEDY INTL, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES on March 29, 2020 This has been stuck here with no ability to find out if it is shipping or not. Hi, Karl. Honestly I would recommend any other shipping method over USPS. They started refusing to deliver packages to my area. All packages end up getting returned to sender. And YOU will end up paying for it. Not good for your business. Some reliable alternatives are UPS and FedEx. Good luck to you!

DO NOT USE United States Postal Service (USPS). You package will NOT BE delivered whatsoever and will be RETURNED TO YOU AT YOUR EXPENSE. Nothing to do with covid. UPS and FEDEX International shipping working perfectly.

I sent out a package, priority mail , to Austria on April 14th and spent $99 to do so. It has been held up in Miami since April 15th. I understand the difficulties and delays due to the Coronavirus, but when I dropped off my package, the USPS employee never indicated that it would not be delivered or that there would be a delay. I mail about $23,000 a year with the post office, all media mail boxes. It is taking 3 weeks for boxes to be delivered and I have loads of customers filing chargebacks. Tracking is taking weeks to update. To customers, the boxes are being held forever at the big distribution sorting centers. I understand covid-19 is menacing but we need to do our jobs by pushing and moving things along. It's time to stop moping around and time to start moving boxes fast...............

I know that this pandemic is making everything in our lives more difficult. However I have been waiting for a package that I was informed shipped on the 30th of April with priority mail a week ago today. Furthermore I haven’t received any updates on the tracker for the last two days besides the occasional “in transit”. I sent a customer service request two days ago that was supposed to get a response yesterday but there was nothing and there is still nothing. And I thought I had it bad, there are people on this forum that have been waiting weeks for packages and that is unacceptable. OK something I've noticed in the tracking. The "Expected delivery date" becomes "In-transit to next facility" and stays in that status for days or weeks. Does the USPS have any delivery protocols in place regarding the pandemic? I work in a high rise building where one construction subcontractor reported that he tested positive for Covid-19. The city I work in is not a hot spot. Unbeknownst to either the tenants or building management, the carrier decided on his own not to deliver to our building, or empty the two blue collection boxes. We get a lot of first class mail in, and send a lot out daily. When I noticed we did not have mail for two days, I called the post office. The supervisor told me they would not come back in our building for 14 days! No pick up or delivery and the mail that has been sitting in the collection boxes - too bad. What? Is this standard Covid-19 protocol, or do individual employees make it up as they go along? If it is protocol, where is it posted? By the way, I had to go to the local PO to pick up our mail. The place is disgustingly dirty - looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years, never mind during this pandemic. We are required by statute to mail some things by USPS, but I hope the laws change soon. Congress, please do not bail out the USPS.

I understand the current environment is causing slow/delayed delivery of packages. However, when I am given a delivery date and what I pay is based on that delivery I expect honesty. I paid 70+ dollars and while I had expected “perhaps” (no one at the post office even mentioned it) a couple day delay. I did not expect weeks. If you are having issues on this scale I would appreciate an honest estimate so I can choose to make other arrangements and not waste my money!!

It seems that media mail is not moving in the USPS system. I have 2 packages sent media mail, one from the east coast and 1 from the west coast. Neither has moved for about 13 days, per tracking. Is media mail being set aside for other package deliveries?

    May 07, 2020
  • anon

George, media mail is low priced for a reason. "express mail" is first. "priority" is 2nd- you also get tracking/insurance. "media mail" has no specific time to be delivered. It gets there when it does. And guess what??...ALL media mail can be opened and checked to make sure it "is" media. Media mail is books or educational material, no magazines- these have ads and are not media mail. You paid for the lowest service. If you wanted something to arrive by a specific date, then you pay for it.

I am tracking a package mailed from Martin, Ohio on April 27,2020 to me in Tampa, Florida by expedited mail. Tracking indicates on May 1, that is in tracking to next facility. No further tracking. This is a fairly large package. I am a senior citizen and have been quarantined since the beginning of March and depend on the USPS to survive. I went to the Pittsburg, Tx post office today to ship a package. The area at the postal clerk's counter is a rather confined area. I was uncomfortable being there. Out of four people: the clerk, two other customers and myself, I was the only one wearing any kind of facial covering. It is my understanding that when I wear a mask I am helping to prevent others from catching Covid-19 should I unknowingly carry it. Shouldn't the USPS be protecting me as well?

I understand the COVID-19 issue and prioritizing the important things first, which I think is amazing. However, I'd also like to get updated to make sure my $700 item is ok and not lost. The last I heard about it was Sunday and that my local post office accepted it and that night I got a notification that it's in transit. I've not heard anything since and the place its coming from is only a state away. I'd really like to know where it is at and make sure it is not lost.

I was just told by our local office that all Priority Mail is going by ground at this time, and to expect extensive delays. I can't find any mention of this online and it was not mentioned on either of the two separate occasions this week when I shipped packages by Priority Mail (unfortunately both with very time sensitive contents). A post from April 17th states that Priority Express's 2-3 day window is now 3-4 days, but it sounds like delays are running substantially longer. Can someone please confirm if all priority mail packages are being sent via ground mail? Are other services affected beyond what is described in the post from April 17th? It sounds like that post needs to be updated to reflect the actual widespread extended delays people are experiencing.

    May 06, 2020

I understand that there can be delays during the pandemic. But it's still concerning when I send a package and tracking is not updated for over a week. I sent two packages on April 22nd and one was delivered but the other has absolutely no updates on its tracking information. The label was not scanned once not even for an acceptance scan. I dropped the packages both off at the same time inside the lobby in the blue drop box next to self service at my local USPS. I went to ask about it in person last Saturday, May 2nd, and I was told it may just be delayed and that they always make sure to have all packages sent out. Seeing all the people having similar issues, I realize there are a lot more delays than I initially thought. Still, I'm disappointed that packages are not always scanned in. And some are delivered quickly while others I have no clue where they are. Honestly, I don't know why they don't give all packages at least one scan at the beginning so people know that their package is in USPS's possession. As of today May 6th, the package is still "Pre-Transit" as if it never made it to USPS. After this experience, I will make sure to stand in line from now on to have an acceptance scan for all my packages.

Media mail is absolutely a joke right now. Have packages that say in transit for weeks now especially anything going through Detroit. Hell i could drive there to get it instead if still waiting for stuff to show up. Do your job USPS!

    May 06, 2020

How about an update here that speaks to the issues. It appears that the majority of USPS packages are currently delayed, many sitting for 2 weeks at ONE location before getting moving again. UPS & FedEx are not having any where near this kind of issue, what is going on? Our local post office says they are frustrated too, nothing sits for 2 weeks at a local post office. Why pay for 2 day delivery when it is going to take 2 weeks?
