The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

I have ordered a few things sent by USPS during this pandemic. Every piece seems to start its journey well then the wheels come off. I live inLaingsburg Mi and have tracked a package from Pa. 1st stop Perrysburg Ohio. Next Belleville Mi. Next Perrysburg Ohio. Can your employees read? Very frustrating everything I’ve ordered ends up lost in the Southeast. Apparently I should limit my purchases to the western part of the US.

I understand the COVID-19 issue and prioritizing the important things first, which I think is amazing. However, I'd also like to get updated to make sure my $700 item is ok and not lost. The last I heard about it was Sunday and that my local post office accepted it and that night I got a notification that it's in transit. I've not heard anything since and the place its coming from is only a state away. I'd really like to know where it is at and make sure it is not lost.

I was just told by our local office that all Priority Mail is going by ground at this time, and to expect extensive delays. I can't find any mention of this online and it was not mentioned on either of the two separate occasions this week when I shipped packages by Priority Mail (unfortunately both with very time sensitive contents). A post from April 17th states that Priority Express's 2-3 day window is now 3-4 days, but it sounds like delays are running substantially longer. Can someone please confirm if all priority mail packages are being sent via ground mail? Are other services affected beyond what is described in the post from April 17th? It sounds like that post needs to be updated to reflect the actual widespread extended delays people are experiencing.

I understand that there can be delays during the pandemic. But it's still concerning when I send a package and tracking is not updated for over a week. I sent two packages on April 22nd and one was delivered but the other has absolutely no updates on its tracking information. The label was not scanned once not even for an acceptance scan. I dropped the packages both off at the same time inside the lobby in the blue drop box next to self service at my local USPS. I went to ask about it in person last Saturday, May 2nd, and I was told it may just be delayed and that they always make sure to have all packages sent out. Seeing all the people having similar issues, I realize there are a lot more delays than I initially thought. Still, I'm disappointed that packages are not always scanned in. And some are delivered quickly while others I have no clue where they are. Honestly, I don't know why they don't give all packages at least one scan at the beginning so people know that their package is in USPS's possession. As of today May 6th, the package is still "Pre-Transit" as if it never made it to USPS. After this experience, I will make sure to stand in line from now on to have an acceptance scan for all my packages.

Media mail is absolutely a joke right now. Have packages that say in transit for weeks now especially anything going through Detroit. Hell i could drive there to get it instead if still waiting for stuff to show up. Do your job USPS!

How about an update here that speaks to the issues. It appears that the majority of USPS packages are currently delayed, many sitting for 2 weeks at ONE location before getting moving again. UPS & FedEx are not having any where near this kind of issue, what is going on? Our local post office says they are frustrated too, nothing sits for 2 weeks at a local post office. Why pay for 2 day delivery when it is going to take 2 weeks?

I know a lot of people are having big time problems right now so I want to be sympathetic to a certain degree. I have a package that clearly shows on USPS tracking that it arrived at the Detroit MI Network Distribution Center on Tuesday, April 14. It was shipped through Amazon by an individual seller. There is detailed tracking from the seller's shipment date of 4/12/20 through 4/14/20 when it arrived in Detroit. The seller put in a request through the postal service to locate the package and move it along. I was told by the seller yesterday that Amazon won't do anything because technically they say it isn't "lost"; I am left to assume it's just stuck in the process. I've lived in a few places in the US and am a regular priority mail receiver and shipper; I've always believed in the USPS system and am grateful for their service. Then I moved to MIchigan and I have experienced more problems in the couple of years I've lived here than anywhere else in the country. I'm about ready to try UPS or Fed Ex for my regular shipments.

I received a tracking notification that my missing parcel is now in Maine, hoping that it will get to my grand daughter this week. Thank you to all the USPS workers. I realize that this Covid 19 virus is overwhelming and to all your employees, we should be thankful that you are doing the best you can do in this situation...thanks again

Covid is a poor excuse for horrible service. Period. It’s been terrible for ages. In fact, I now refuse to do businesses that only ship USPS.

I think most packages are being held on purpose to make it look like USPS needs money from the government during the COVID-19 pandemic. The post office has been losing money for decades. It is their way now to use this pandemic to force public opinion in their favor by holding packages back from being delivered in a timely manner. I have several packages in limbo and don't expect them for a long time, if ever.

    May 05, 2020

I absolutely agree. Difficulties “due to COVID-19” don’t make the trucks magically take days/weeks longer to drive from point a to point b once they’ve already scanned and hit the road. This is a ploy to get more money.

100 million people being FORCED to shop online instead of physically, couldn't possibly have anything to do with it. Let's see you run a business that can suddenly handle a 1000% increase in sales with only 80% of your original staff.

The poor quality of delivery service in ABSOLUTELY not caused by the pandemic. I will admit it may have made it worse, but for a year the service has been awful. I continuously get mail in my box the is addressed to another home. I place the mail back in my box and watched the carrier take it out and sort it and the next day the same problem occurs. I do not work for the USPS and am not going to delivery mail for the carrier. It’s not the pandemic is the low standards of the people the USPS is hiring.

    May 04, 2020
  • anon

Do you have your house number on your box where the delivery person can see? If not then it's hard for someone to know exactly what house you are. This is the case especially if this isn't your regular carrier.

I have a package from Singapore the last tracked April, 22 2020. Its says processed through ISC USPS New York. It is now May 4th and tracking still says the same thing. Is this just due to a back log of packages caused by the Covid-19 pandemic or is my package lost in a USPS black hole?

    May 04, 2020

I too have an international package that's missing in action. 24th it said "processed through isc sanfrancisco" and theres no new info. I totally get that things may be slower but what's the point of paying for faster shipping when it's taking longer than the slow shipping! If things are going to be that slow they should limit the types of shipping to only SLOW ones.

Visiting my local post office today(terra bella,ca) i couldnt believe my eyes. This counter postal worker was workering with no ppe. The spit guard that was put up covered maybe 5 inches of the 2 foot counter she worked at. As i see it, a total waste of money. Sould have been much wider. I do have a picture. Her reason for not wearing her mask was that it fogged up her glasses. May i suggest RainX.

I've ordered a package from California. The seller has it sent as "First Class Priority Mail" on April 20th. Its now May 4th. I also contacted the seller and ruffled their "tail-feathers" about the package (I feel bad for doing that now, as I've read in this blog). What in the world is going on with the delivery service. Yes I do understand we're all in this Covid-19 message together, I want everybody to be happy and healthy as possible. Next time I order something, I'm going to make darn sure the seller sends it through UPS /Fedex carriers.

Trying to figure out how my first two packages from Australia blue through customs and we're delivered to my front door within a matter of a day, yet a pair of tail lights I ordered around the same time have been sitting in the inspector General's queue for about week? States that it's been processed through inspector General's office, which process through tells me it's been approved and it should be at my door sometime soon, but no updates. This update happened on April 30th... it left Australia on the 24th, I know it doesn't take more than a day or two to get to New York so what's up? Is there a huge massive backlog of items being imported from other countries? I think a little heads up from the inspector General's office letting us know the current situation is definitely needed oh, and not just everyone assuming that they're playing hockey with our packages in the back cuz they're bored

I have read so many service related complaints against to forum rules, however, I do know how frustrating it is to not know when, where and what time . My suggestion is to install the Informed Delivery app. I find it Very useful and informative. They give daily notifications and tracking as well. Its usually the 1st app I open in the morning.

i have the app. it’s great but.. i have a packed “in transit” since May 2nd. it’s my prescription glasses and i’m worried. i will give it a couple of more days.

    May 08, 2020

Informed Delivery doesn't help when you've got a package sitting in "In transit" status for 20+ days. What would be nice is for USPS tracking to actually "inform" us exactly where our packages are.

I sent my grand daughter a parcel from Canada on April 16. The last of the tracking information was April 25 stating it is in transit to destination but they haven’t received it. I order from a given business fairly frequently, and the priority shipment always takes the same route from Texas to California: North Houston > Santa Clarita > Woodland Hills (destination facility). If the shipment is sent out on a Monday, for example, I always get it by Wednesday, and very rarely Thursday. My most recent order, which was shipped on Tuesday, has taken a completely different route: North Houston > Phoenix > Anaheim > Los Angeles Network Distribution Center (tracking claims that this is the destination facility, but it's not). My expected delivery date was today, but now I'm just hoping my shipment arrives tomorrow so that I don't have to wait until Monday. Normally, I wouldn't care, but this shipment is important. Can anyone tell me why the change in route? I understand that some things have changed as a result of COVID19, but it seems like changing the route completely and adding extra stops would make for more work rather than less.

I’m among the many who has seemingly had a package stuck in transit indefinitely. It’s been over a month now, and my package is stuck in Texas. The label hasn’t even been entered.

I came here to be sure my domestic package wasn’t the only one stuck indefinitely. It’s been at the Springfield MA distribution for 2 weeks now with no sign of moving. I have the same problem, I live in Holyoke and I have 2 packages, one that arrived in Springfield, MA on 5/6 and the other on 5/4 and they both haven’t left yet.iv order items way later than these and they are either out for delivery or IV gotten them. I mean if it’s in Springfield, i should have had these at least by yesterday or today the absolute latest! It’s very frustrating seeing one of them is extremely important!!

I myself had a package mailed priority in ft worth. It was scanned as accepted. Then it was scanned as in transit. Expected delivery may 2. Since then, all it says is in transit. The 800 # was less than useless. Noone can seem to say anything but. "It isnt lost, it's just in transit." But beyond that. Nobody knows anything. Seems a strange way to do business. It's in transit, not lost. But we don't know where it is or when you'll get it. I expect that service from wish. Not the USPS

Same with me, I have three packages all shipped from CA and there has been no movement in tracking for a month now. I have no idea where these packages are. I was on hold with USPS for 1 hour and 49 minutes and finally had to hang up. I received an email reply from USPS 5 days after emailing them and I literally have to give my right kidney they want so much detailed information. I don't know what to do. Frustrating for sure.

I live in Maryland and ordered an item from the UK on 4/20. The item arrived at ISC Miami FL on 4/23 with an expected delivery date of 4/24. It is now 5/1 and I still don't have my package. I don't understand why it is taking longer for my package to get from Miami to my home in Maryland than it did from the UK to Miami. I have mailed a couple items in the past couple weeks. One small package was mailed 10 week days ago (Apr 20th) with an original delivery projected at 3 days. Per tracking the package had been in Newark NJ since April 24th while the first class letter I mailed was dropped off at the Post Office late on April 21. I totally understand that package and letter deliveries are taking longer but the first class letter would normally have taken 3 days max and the package would have been 5 days max. Are processes and staffing problems today extending deliveries up to 3x or maybe ? the time or did I just get real unlucky. If this is going to be the norm maybe the Post Offices could alert everyone what the new normal is. I did not expect it to take a minimum of 2 weeks to deliver a first class letter 30 miles across the state.
