The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted our country in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It is changing how people across the U.S. and around the world are working, shopping, even interacting with one another. States have ordered many stores and businesses to close. Businesses that continue to operate are faced with protecting their employees and customers, while coming up with creative ways to market and deliver their products.

The Postal Service continues to serve the public, operating on the front line, fulfilling the universal service obligation to deliver to every house and business every day. USPS is finding itself serving a population that is relying on it now more than ever. For many home-bound and quarantined people, home delivery is the only source for medicine and other vital supplies. During this time, the Postal Service has also prioritized the safety of its employees and customers.

We recognize the reality of the pandemic and have adapted our operations to maintain continuity while ensuring the safety of our employees. We are taking abundant care to minimize exposure to both our employees and Postal Service employees, using technology whenever possible. As we have told our employees, we also ask you to follow CDC guidelines, remain home as much as possible, and stay safe.

For questions or concerns about delivery during the pandemic, please go to usps.com to track mail or get information from the USPS Coronavirus FAQs page.

Postal Service employees, for work-related complaints or issues, please use our Hotline to let us know.

Yesterday the postal carrier handed mail to my husband instead of her putting it in the curbside mailbox! Neither was wearing a mask! I am horrified. I’m immunocompromised and can’t feel comfortable now in my own home.

At least they will deliver your mail. My PO is making up its own rules and not delivering mail to COVID-19 positive patients. They just refuse to.

Are you accepting packages from China?

    Jun 18, 2020
  • anon

Could you please provide a statement regarding the Chicago ISC facility and what is being done to ensure the backlog of packages are being moved? I've had an item at this facility since mid-April. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to get it, but some clarity on whether or not it will arrive at all would be helpful. I think as an organization you could avoid a number of calls and bad reviews if you would just provide some sort of communication about the delays.

Hope to shed some light and offer some hope for delayed packages. I've had dozens of domestic and international shipments to and from the US, Asia and Europe in the last 3 months. Things from China in March have slowly trickled in. Several from France and the Czech Republic were processed with almost no delay while others have languished in ISC NY, NJ and Miami. Japan Post has shipped nothing since April. Singapore Post seems similarly paralysed, probably due to lack of commercial flights to put cargo on. NY must be a real mess. I've had items en route to LA routed to MA, FL, ME with weeks-long stretches with no scans or activity before finally being sent on their way. I started one case for missing mail, package could not be found, case closed and it turned up a week later. The backlogs, rerouting, staffing issues, safety issues must be insane. I'm thankful for the work the USPS is doing and honestly hope they receive more funding and support to deal with this situation.

Hi JJ - have you had any shipments from Australia or anything sitting in Los Angeles. I have had a package sitting in customs in LA since the end of May.

    Jun 19, 2020
  • anon

I had a package from Australia and it took 24 days to arrive to me! That is a little slower but it did make it. Seems it got stuck in San Francisco CA for days!! I have mailed a package to Australia on 1st June, and it's still in Miami as if this moment! Hopefully it will get on the move soon.

  • anon

Hi Alison - Out of 2 Australian shipments to the US, one (with tracking) arrived with little delay in mid-May, the other has not been heard from since April 23rd. Larger tracked parcels seem to be having better luck than small letters. Nothing gone missing officially yet - just crazy delays. Good luck!

Sad this is this isn’t happening international, its domestic packages too, mine just sit in detroit and im like 30 mins away

    Jun 18, 2020
  • anon

Oh it’s not just happening domestically. S. Korea’s version of the USPS (EMS) has been completely suspended for probably a month now. I buy a lot of skincare from there and what is normally free but slow, isn’t too bad (3 weeks from the time of order, half of that being processing!). Now they are having to use companies similar to UPS and Fedex (DHL), so what would normally be free is at least $18, and up to $32 for “express mail” which is supposed to be 3-5 business days to the US, could be fast if the companies shipped out their orders in a timely manner). So it’s definitely not just us. The only COVID related nail issues I have had is the local branch not wanting to deliver mail or packages ever, or answer their phone. I haven’t gotten mail since the 9th and can’t get a hold of anyone. I requested a mail re-delivery. They didn’t do it. I called the 800 number, they sent out a case to my local branch who was supposed to contact me on Monday, and nothing. I do truly wish that I could pick where my tax money went (Ha) and give a good percentage to USPS. It truly boggles my mind that they don’t get government funding. I’d be willing to pay them monthly. I just want my mail.

Package arrived from Switzerland to the ISC in Chicago on June 11 2020 and has not moved on any further to its destination. Is this due to issues caused by the Covid pandemic or some other issue?

I have a package that has been stuck in the Chicago customs with no updates since the 14th and the delivery date was over a week ago. I reached out to usps and they said customs can take up to 5 weeks or something like that to process it. That’s insane! There has to be something going on at customs in Chicago because I’ve read about many people having their mail stuck there indefinitely..

I am rec’ over $8000 a months worth of live saving time sensitive, temperature sensitive medication each month. The rural delivery system will not deliver These packages to my house. They will not discuss alternate arrangements or options. I am disabled, elderly, diabetic, and have an service “assist” dog, I have spent hours upon hours trying to get the local Post Office to deliver my packages with medical supplies to my house that will not fit into my post box located 4/10ths of a mile from my house. The carrier will not discuss any other options And the PO are adamant about this is total up to her according g to USPS Policy. I am unable to drive the tree miles into town and expose myself to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am single and have no family or friends to retrieve the deliveries and none of the practical alternate suggestions have even been considered. My life is being compromised by insensitive, ignorant, neglect and abuse of my situation. I am exhausted and stressed... this too is having an immediate concern as it is eating away at my life expectancy.

Many in my patient groups [immune compromised] are in the same boat & the specialty pharmacy sends it by FedEx or UPS overnight signature required as it's refrigerated. They call & confirm the day b/f sending [it's $15K-$20K]. It's mega-pharmacy but typically they have a branch in each region for refrigerated med. So overnight by FedEx or UPS is possible. A semi-rural friend had trouble w/a WalMart UPS delivery b/c the driver couldn't find her place-it was a temp in a Hertz truck hired for the COVID19 rush. But, she has had no issue w/the med for her & kids, they pay highest rate to send overnight so it's the reg. drivers on the promised day. --I assume you've ordered supplies delivered to avoid going out. If FedEx & UPS deliver to your rural door they can also deliver your med this way. Possibly since it's not refrigerated your med is sent by the same pharmacy that sends pills [the 3 month supply that never comes quickly]. Sometimes there's 1 location in the US that sends pills/non-refrig., depending how close you live overnight may not be possible, or even giving you a specific day. But UPS/FedEx even now is a few days & *they would deliver to your door*. These mega pharmacies that do the 3month of pills *always* use bulk rate USPS for cheap$. BUT call them. USPS policy is not changing. Get your pharmacy to send it FedEx or UPS [whatever delivers to your door]. Tell the pharmacy it sits on the hot truck, it's summer, they don't deliver so it returns to PO, you then have to make a trip to town, it could be a day/days. Clearly inform them 'The Medication May Not Be Safe In A Hot Truck My Doctor May Not Allow Me To Accept IT." I guarantee they have delivery conf. on $8K of med. NOT signature required [that's lots more expensive] but the cheap delivery conf. that USPS sometimes includes with package fee. So if you've had to drive into town before, they can clearly see there has been a delay for you to receive all your prior med. SADLY, the pharm. may not be concerned of your trouble or danger from COVID19 getting to town to pick up your med. But they WILL be concerned if the med could be ruined, your ins. would not pay them & they might have to lose money. That usually gets results, they should start using FedEx/UPS. ++no disrespect to USPS on the policy or leaving it up to the driver-their routes are huge, they don't have time normally as the # of homes is based on mailbox only, customers don't wear masks so it's unacceptably dangerous, and they don't know if your dog thinks they're a bad guy. We had to get our mail at the PO for weeks b/c our jerk neighbor parked on the street in front of our mailbox [to leave his mailbox clear]. The PO could do nothing, the driver wasn't supposed to even try to get out to deliver. They said they couldn't prove whose car it was, & police non-emergency also didn't help. Dad had to dig up the mailbox [it was rooted in a huge chunk of concrete & a 4 inch deck post] w/a garden shovel & move it to a place a car couldn't fit to park. I don't blame the PO, it's best they not get involved, the same neighbor harassed the cable co. about us.

I am an American citizen and international shipper of small items worldwide. The USPS has been good, bad and downright ugly after 9-11 but this is the WORST I have ever seen it. You guys lie about tracking numbers not being valid, tell our customers that 'maybe it's a scam and the package wasn't sent' or worse, tell them that there's no way to track a package that doesn't have a number BUT when we do purchase tracking you don't put the numbers in your system and it STILL looks like we're the ones being dishonest, but it's not. It's USPS employees. All you have to do is say on your website that you don't 'track' international packages that are less than 4lbs because you've got too much mail and not enough personnel. Reasonable people understand. We also need an official statement saying the mail delivery will now be 4 to 6 weeks so be patient and it will come. Again, reasonable people understand. Instead, you choose to lie to our customers and that just ain't right.

Please where is my package?! It arrived at ISC LA June 1st at 11:35 am US from Vanuatu. Shouldn't medication be given priority. Inside of the package it is medication for my mom's cancer. After I filed a claim, somehow the information is no longer in the system. I understand the COVID delays but two weeks at ISC LA is not acceptable. Hi, I as well am having trouble with delayed international parcels. Several packages have been sent from PHX, AZ to me here in Croatia end of MARCH. Is COVID affecting the USPS consumer affairs and online form as well? I’ve called my La consumer affairs office multiple times to try to file a claim since I could not online and gotten only voicemail. I also have not gotten any response to the online inquiries I’ve sent and my mail item has mysteriously changed status from In transit in New York to “awaiting shipment” after 2 months. Is COVID causing tracking issues as well? Any help would be appreciated thanks for your service

USPS Delivered mail RE: COVID-19 - Mail placed into 7 day Quarantine in the house Before opening an USPS mail delivered, my wife advises that it must be in quarantine for 7 days before it can be opened. She was told that by a TV directive re: COVID-19. Does that advice still hold true?

Dear USPS, I have tried to leave an inquiry via your Contact Us page, but it does not work for International Parcel. I did all the things I could, setting up account and put up request to search and update parcel, and up till now there is no reply. I've also left feedback and leave comments on Twitter profile and even e-mail to general e-mails and all came back and referred me back to the Contact Us or Email Us page which obviously did not help in the first place. Understood that the pandemic might have affected the operations, but I would like an interim update on what is the status of the parcel - the tracking status did not change for a long while now. Appreciate if you can assist on this International Parcel related query.

Where are my packages?! They arrived in the US from Japan at the end of February and have not been delivered to me yet! Stuck in ISC NYC. They weren't returned to the sender and now the tracking numbers have expired. I can't track the packages anymore? Excuse me? I understand COVID created delays, but this is beyond absurd. I've lost all remaining faith in the USPS.

I’m so sorry to hear about that! Mine has been in transit since April after clearing ISC NY and it appears the tracking number has expired for me now as well since it shows “awaiting shipment”! How long are the COVID delays to mail expected to take? Was the previous information correct and when can we assume it is missing given the COVID delay? I haven’t been able to get an answer from online on that last topic and was unable to file a claim online because of USPS not considering my tracking number valid

Up until now, my PO carrier would bring packages that don't fit in the box up to the house. I also have a small online business and after CV I started having boxes that don't fit in the box picked up. I'm not going into any stores right now as I'm older and the caregiver for my disabled sister. But now it looks like I'll have to go to the PO to mail boxes and also to pick up boxes because our driveway isn't big enough for him to do a loop (he has to back up a bit before he can head out the driveway). So I have to either stop selling stuff and stop getting stuff or I have to risk contracting CV. If I get sick, my sister is completely incapable of caring for me, and she's fragile so if she got sick it could be dangerous. What am I supposed to do in this situation? It's compounded by the fact that USPS also delivers packages here (we're in a rural area) for UPS and other carriers. I'm not happy about the fact that I may have to take a risk I do not want to take, several times a week, to get my mail.
