Data Analytics Help Thin Out the Haystack

You have likely heard the term “big data” frequently these days. From health care to marketing to law enforcement techniques, data analytics are driving decisions and improving outcomes.

At the OIG, data analytics — which include data mining, risk assessments, and predictive analytics — allow us to synthesize data in ways that help us better detect fraud and misconduct. Data analytics also help us identify the root causes of problems or inefficiencies, and then develop solutions.

We didn’t create our blog just to use the catchy name, Pushing the Envelope. We did it to inform and engage stakeholders about our work, particularly our audits and white papers, and the occasional topical issue. 

 

Top 10 Postal Stories of 2017

It’s that time of year again. Our annual list of the top 10 stories from the postal and logistics world. And who doesn’t love a list?

As always, we had no shortage of stories. In fact, the hardest part every year is narrowing the list down to 10. (Now we appreciate how difficult it is for the Football Bowl Series to rank college football programs for the annual four-team playoff!)
