This week the Postal Service announced plans to move into one of the few remaining frontiers of package delivery – Sundays.

Under a new negotiated service agreement approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, e-tailing giant Amazon.com will use the Postal Service’s Parcel Select service to ship everything from clothing to garden tools on Sundays. The program is running now in the New York and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, with a rollout planned in 2014 in Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, and Phoenix, to name a few.

Sunday delivery isn’t exactly new. The Postal Service delivers 7 days a week using the premium Priority Mail Express product. So, what’s really new is the low cost of the service – making it a solid option for consumers.

Utilizing the Postal Service’s ubiquitous delivery network Amazon.com is able to keep its costs down and, for example, give its Amazon Prime members who get unlimited, free two-day shipping the flexibility to get packages on Sundays.

The Postal Service faces stiff competition as it seeks to grow its package business and take advantage of the explosion in e-commerce. But it has seen significant gains in its parcel sector through innovations such as flat rate Priority Mail packaging.

With this latest move, the Postal Service is looking to strengthen its market position in business-to-consumer shipping and to further distinguish itself from its main competitors – FedEx and UPS.

What do you think of the Amazon.com partnership? Do you foresee operational, staffing or other problems for the Postal Service as it ramps up for Sunday deliveries? Will this be a net financial win for the Postal Service and its customers?

I have you as priority to to 3-day delivery and it's not certain that you get your delivery in three days it's more like 5 days sometimes for me and there's no Sunday deliveries either for me and I pay just the same as Amazon I don't see how they are any special compared to anyone else.

Well unless you waive the two day shipping with amazon prime and select another date then you will have that box delivered and I don't know that if putting a hold your mail would change this. You may want to look at maybe setting it up with your post office for no sunday delivery. Amazon gets delivered once we take it out whether or not anyone is there to receive the package. There may be flaws with the USPS but there is no one out there that can put that many vehicles on the road. There is actually a lot of collaboration between FedEx, USPS, and UPS.

I feel it is a shame that employees don't get Sunday off. I feel we should honor Sundays off at least for those that worship I work as a nurse and have always felt that working all holidays and Sundays and never having a choice was a hardship on family and family values. I very much appreciate the postal workers and when things go wrong, I think of how many businesses get everything right. We are not perfect, none of us.

The USPS should be no different than any other buisness that works on sundays all they have to do is schedule and hire accordingly to where there employees still get a day off. As far as church there’s two different times of the the day to do that so that’s not an issue. What is an issue is my very time sensitive package has been delayed costing me thousands of dollars because they don’t run on Sunday

I agree! How about not having recitals, football games, important events, etc on Friday nights or Saturday during the day! This never happens! I can never understand how schools, organizations, etc.put events on important Jewish holidays. Let's be a little sensitive to each other, please!

I am a christian and I know were suppose to not work on Sundays but I also understand that some people need to work whenever they get the chance. For instance as I said I am a christian but I still have to work on Sundays. I also haven't been able to make it to church in a long time. It's not that I don't want to go, it's just finding the time to. I feel that being a person of worship isn't about weather you have the bible memorized word for word or if you go to church every Sunday, It's about doing what you believe is the right thing and respecting the people around you and their decisions no matter their race, religion, or ethnicity.

There are PDF Files where you can look to see if Sunday delivery is available in your area. I am so happy to not have Sunday Delivery. I appreciate my Mail Man and I can wait a day for a package if it means he gets some time off.

i see a big problem with it. When UPS and FED-EX delivered my packages I received Them at my door. Now that they are going through the USPS they refuse to deliver to our house. I have to pick the packages up at the Post Office which is open 9-4. With work makes very hard to get there. PO is 12 miles from my house. It defeats the purpose of ordering online.

Why bother with usps if they won't deliver on the required date. I love my post woman, but this is stupid. Get your act together or get ready to be completely replaced by fed-ex / ups.

Hi, as an Amazon customer, I would like to know if there is a way to alert the post office or Amazon that I DO NOT want Sunday deliveries. I can wait an extra day for my packages and I do not want to be the one requiring postal workers to work on Sundays or holidays. Thanks, USPS, for what you do. You are not a perfect system, but I've not yet found one that is! I think y'all do a great job.

I ordered a two day shipping package from amazon and it was supposed to deliver Sunday but it didn't and now the usps tracking number says it's available for pick up WHEN ITS NOT EVEN REALLY AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP. Why doesn't it update and tell you it's not available for pick up and where your package actually is ??

Will my overnight priority mail express package be delivered today on labor day even if it was supposed to be here this past Saturday b4 noon? I got an update saying it left the usps destination facility this morning but that was the last update 4 hours ago. Will they still try to deliver it on this holiday? I was also curious if it's supposed to update it hit the post office since it's closed today and I have no idea where CCA'S pickup mail.

I have seen the usps trucks in the neiborhoods on Sundays, but did not know they were delivering packages for Amazon. Hate to say it, but I believe it is another way the usps has found to continue to run up a deficit. Who is the winner on this one? Amazon for sure. I understand they receive a subsidy of $1.23 from the post office for every Amazon package delivered by the post office.

you might want to talk to your local post office location manager or Post Master about using the Local Post office address instead of listing a po box number you'd address it like this To: Your Name 12345 Their Street/Ave Unit: # 4500 instead of Po Box # 4500 There/Your City & St / Zip Code what this does unless the shipper uses certain UPS or FedEx services like super saver ect will allow UPS / FedEx to deliver it to that Post office Location form there the PO will complete the delivery to your box or leave a notice they got your package for window of it they have it available a PO locker like a bus/airport locker for pick it up by leaving a key inside your po box be aware not all postal office locations are doing this.. but talking to your local post office manager/postmaster about doing it if they aren't might help

Usually have good service through our local USPS. I have been ordering through Amazon for over 4 years at the same location. Not once has anyone left something on the door at our location. However, yesterday they left a package and of course it is stolen, as our offices are off the freeway! There was no common sense shown yesterday from whoever left a big package for someone to pawn!

For petesake, what makes you people think that "the poor folk at the post office have to work 7 days straight now". It's rotating schedules and shifts! It's shifts! How do you people not know that! Who are you and did you pass 6th grade? The post office isn't your friend! They are not there to please you! They will only adapt and adjust when forced from outside pressure. They will do as little as possible to provide what they HAVE TO. Hahaha "those poor post office employees"

Are you serious? They were sitting there sorting mail for the next part of their route. They pull off where there is room, and sort. There is not a lot of room in the trucks, all the mail and packages is crammed in there. They sort their route sections at a time.

USPS was way over their head getting the Amazon Prime contract. Majority of your carriers are archaic and can barely operate modern technology. Hire new blood and pink slip everyone over 40. Your carriers who were working before the prime contract were used to doing very few packages and a LOT of junk mail. Zero work ethic for customer satisfaction. I have had dozens of orders show up late, improper tracking updates, PACKAGE TRACKING UPDATE FRAUDULENCE!! I happened to be outside when the postman pulled up. I get a text saying it can not be delivered and then he promptly drove off. He obviously just stopped to get a geotag on his scanner for the apartment complex. I have had multiple orders with relevant handling and frankly I cannot wait for the USPS to be shut down and have my prime orders passed onto a competent package delivery service.

Idk maybe it could be due to the fact that you make rude comments like firing old people which btw is age discrimination. Usps is the only job in my area that doesn't pay slace wages.

Why does USPS lie and state "Can't access front door" every time I have a Sunday delivery? I never get the package until Monday. I called the East Aurora, NY post office today to ask WHY??? and he said some garbage about my packages not being added to the route, and this is a general thing they stamp it as when that happens -- so, a LIE. He took my address so that, in case I will be getting a package next Sunday, they will actually try to deliver it. NOT MUCH HELP AT ALL!!!

Personally I think the fact that we deliver on Sundays is crazy yet needed. I work for USPS and I deliver over 100 packages on Sunday and there are at least twenty of us from my local hub.. There are many hubs for it within the USPS. My main issue is holidays, Thanksgiving, Easter, memorial day, etc. This is just wrong! I'm not sure on Christmas yet but to me, no morals. My bf Army Ranger Vet said it's unamerican to work memorial day. That's one of the hardest times for him and as a soldier in many tours Somalia and losing young Rangers. Yet we are out delivering packages for Amazon (?) I hear people saying this parties work for the post office on Sunday, that is false. I work now seven days a week bi weekly. As non career employees we must work Sunday and holidays. I did not know holidays going in

The USPS has to realize that Amazon is -not- their partner. Amazon is their competitor. The whole deliver on Sunday deal is an Aggressive (immoral) push on Amazon's end. It's a bully company. They've pretty much said, "deliver our stuff on Sunday and don't charge us very much to ship our packages because we like to offer our customers free shipping .....or else we'll cut you off and seek out other companies who would love to have all of our business volume. The kicker is that sooner or later Amazon -will- deliver all of their own packages themselves down the road. The USPS will lose Amazons business in that regard anyways. They've made it clear that this is their objective with announcing a drone program, patents on a blimp warehouse and an already existent fleet of Amazon trucks that delivers to metro areas. USPS, don't sacrifice your ideals for this company or any other. Trust me, online shopping isn't going away nor is it limited to just Amazon. People don't want to leave their houses anymore. There'll be plenty of work to go around.

I have a p.o. box the mail is never delivered on time now they can't deliver on Sundays. I'll go there for to pickup my mail and packages after 11:00am and I have to wait sometimes a very lon time. Because the mailman won't get there until 12-12:30pm. Also, today I received an email saying that my packages can't be delivered because no one is in the post office so they left a notice saying that they'll deliver my packages tomorrow. These are Amazon.com packages being delivered to me. I would appreciate it if this problem can be taken care of.

ALSO make sure your using the Correct Zip + 4 Code this helps allot some or most post offices have a separate zip codes for there PO Boxes aside from the normal home/business address delivery zip codes on po box allot of the box clerks will look at the zip + 4 since the + 4 code at most po box locations is the Box number like po box 450 zip would be example: YourCity AL 331xx - 0450

After the holidays Amazon deliveries start from a hub station. This means that all the surrounding cities go to one large station and deliver their cities packages out of that station. Because you have a PO box your box is in your mail station which is not open on Sundays and the carriers have no access to. There is no possible way to have them delivered that day. If you want Sunday delivery you need to have them delivered to your residence or find the hub station and ask to pick them up from there.
